Fixing a jammed Singer Simple 2263 sewing machine

How to loosen a screw inside the sewing machine which may help prevent jams or fix a stuck wheel
Read this description below for new advice!
Dale Holt recommended trying this:
My Fix: Oil, like this. Our Singer Simple 3116 suddenly became hard to turn by hand or the motor. I removed the plastic cases, left side with one screw, bottom with four screws, and front with three screws - one on the left with a thread guide and one by each end of the handle, then pulled the large front cover off, rotating it along the top. I put oil in each of the three oil holes and the machine became easy to turn . One oil hole is at the bottom end of the connecting rod. I do NOT recommend loosening the allen screw. The other oil holes are near the ends of the top shaft.

Saved some people a trip to the shop. Just one thing, do NOT use canned air on a sewing machine. All you end up doing is blowing all the fuzziness INTO the machine and not out of the machine. Those mini vacuum attachments are ten bucks online and last a whole lot longer then canned air.

just when I thought a trip to the repair shop was inevitable, I saw this video. I can certainly understand that loosening a screw isn't probably the best way, especially since the machine worked prior, it worked for me! I am super grateful to have seen this video! once I loosened the little screw with an Alan key and the machine turned again, I oiled every little hole and friction spot I could find, tightened the screw back up and was frozen again...... so, as it stands, the screw is barely lose, machine super oiled and I can sew again! Thank you!

Thank you so much! I had exactly the problem that you had here, and couldn't find an answer. It's been a really rough week with lots of problems for our family, and although the sewing machine problem wasn't a huge deal of itself, it was the straw that broke the camel's back, and put my wife just in tears about everything. Thank you! My Singer wheel was completely stuck. I tried cleaning, oiling, adjusting bobbin, lots of frustrating failed attempts to fix. This is the only thing that worked. Easy fix now that I know what to do. Thanks so much for posting!

Sir, you just saved Christmas! I used all of my xmas budget to buy fabric to make pajama pants for everyone, and on my first seam of my first pair, my machine locked up exactly as you described. I called my nearest machine service place and they said their starting fee was $89.00 US! No! So I searched more for fixes, followed your instructions, and the machine works PERFECTLY! Thank You!

While forcing fabric thru my machine, it jammed and made loud vibrating sound that wud not stop til I turned he machine off. I have been just spent a good deal of the past 3 or 4 days studying how to adjust timing, thinking that was the problem. But, my turning piece as you demonstrate is stuck as well. Thanks for sharing with us. I will look further to see if I can make any adjustments underneath. I wish machine repair shops wouldn't be so greety with with their min. charges ($60 to $90 just for starters).

I’ve been trying to fix my moms machine for months now. I felt like I was going crazy never know what was wrong with it. I was slowly fixing small things here and there but never understood why the top thread was jamming into the bottom so much. Awesome! Was jamming so bad I was considering going on Ebay to find a used machine. I have a Singer Simple 3116 and this fix got me working better than when I took it out of the box. Thanks! Note, I was able to tighten the screw back up after putting a few drops of machine oil on the joint.

This might just be what's wrong with my singer. My dad's handy with machines so he was able to figure out where the problem was but we were both too scared to really tinker with it since I had a lady waiting literally in my home waiting for me to hem a dress for her. So he got it to a working stage so I could finish, but I need it fixed. This video should give me the answers I need. In short, thank you for making this video, total life saver. If it acts up again I'll know what could possibly fix it =)

Thank you so very much! I have a Singer Prelude and it seems to have the same problem! I cleaned it very carefully and thoroughly and yet the wheel would not move. yep! this worked on my singer 50ta-e99670!!! thanks so much for this. i had about 20 allen wrenches and all of them were either the wrong size or soo worn down, so i went to walmart & they were selling a lil pack of them for $1.50 so i took it home and tried it. it required a L O T of pressure but after using my full force i finally got it unstuck. oiled everything and now it runs like a dream. thank you.

Gracias! I have an old singer model that jammed completely, this showed me where to look. Turns out one of the screws on the handle came out far enough to get the way of the path of rotation blocking the handle movement. After seeing this I just screwed it in place a bit and it works again! :D

I put my machine in the shop to get fixed - paid $40! Only to get it home and sew just a couple feet before it messed up again! I had thread hanging from the bottom of my fabric! What a frustrating mess! So I tried your solution even though I thought my problem was in the bobbin. I figured it's broken so what's it gonna hurt?? It completely solved my problem!! What a miracle!! And now that I know the answer I can just fix it myself and save the money! Do you find that it tightens up again periodically? I have the same model.

Yes, it just seems to happen again and again. I've ended up buying a new sewing machine because this wasn't the only issue I had... Singer really isn't a reputable brand any more, sadly.

I have a 1725 with exactly the same problem. Loosened the set screw and it worked. Oiled the bearings, tightened the set screw, works fine now.
