Fixing a LOUD, Broken PS5 - First PS5 Disc Drive Repair! This broken PS5 was sent in by a viewer who said everything worked fine except the disc drive. When I tested it the disc drive made a lot of noise when I tried to insert a disc and wouldn't take the disc in at all. Once I got the disc drive apart I found part of one of the gears that was broken and also damage to other components.

The buzzing noise comes from the manual eject screw after someone ejected a disc manually. It keeps spinning when the gears are moving while inserting a disc (like in this case in your video 7:34) and it is not supposed to do so, it is supposed to stay still while the disc drive is taking discs the automated way, reseating it will fix the issue. This can happen to a PS4 disc drive too

Thanks, Steve had a PS5 come in last week with HDMI issues had a noisy disc drive very noisy gears grinding not taking discs. I took it apart reset the mechanisms and made sure the gearing was set right luckily this part was ok on this PS5 no shaving was needed to the plastic. This fixed the noisy disc drive I suspect it was caused by the console falling when the HDMI was broken.

Plastic gears are usually after market and not custom. But if they are maybe it is time to look into a cheap desktop injection molding machine and determine a mold of the gears to make on demand. It's a small investment, but it would support all future consoles as well as give you the ability to sell them as spare parts.

I finally bought my base PS4 an external cooling unit that attaches to the back after years of trying different fixes. It is finally working quietly now, yikes that took a long time lol

Thats strange you shouldnt need a external cooling unit to cool a console that should do the job itself. What are these different fixes you have tried? Did you take it apart and clean the heatsink incase it was trapped with dust? Have you tried replacing the thermal paste with MX-4? Let me know as I want to help you sas you shouldnt need to be using external cooling.

Kinda worried to put discs in my system too often. I wonder if that was a manufacturing defect or happened over time.

Ikr I was installing my ps4 collection and my disc wouldn’t eject out the ps5 even though the system had said it did so. To begin with I had it in vertical position, so I just put it back to horizontal position and worked but still I’m worried :( but it happened after like the 4th game I installed .

Hi Steve, my ps4 controller square, triangle and circle button doesn't work. I changed the controller film but it still doesn't work. Do you have any suggestion?
