If you've ever encountered a Pokémon game with a dead battery before, you might have wondered how difficult it is to replace it and get back access to the essential save and load functions.
I'm pretty new to hardware modding of any kind and this turned out to be quite a nice job to ease me into some slightly more complicated projects, so I decided to document the process and show you how it went!

It's literally holding a heated chunk of metal to a soft bit of metal. Zero training required.

If I can do this then I'm sure anyone can, before doing this I had literally only ever used a soldering iron once before!

I soldered before with a piece of iron heated on the stove. An electric iron is easier yet

Cool, there are tabbed replacementbatteries! That definitely makes the whole proces much easier.

Weird thing is I have this exact game during my childhood and it’s not saving. I used to blow the cartridge but with no luck 😆 But that did not stop me from completing the game lol what I did was not turning my GB off.

@@RetroDodo somes tips for you. Try removing the old solder using some solderwick Get a better and hotter soldering iron Use some flux on the places you want to solder

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, to be fair I think my soldering iron isn't the greatest, so I'm deciding to blame that if anything looks dodgy 😅

@@RetroDodo It is no shame to resolder the solder points. Solder both contacts somehow (so battery is fixed) than heat up contacts with tip for a moment and add more solder. The flux inside the wire will make nice round shiny solder points.
