Thanks so much and glad it was helpful. Fingers crossed the job went smoothly and easily for you. Can be a bit fiddly but way cheaper then a new pipe.

Hello mate, I have a mk6 transit luton van. My steering went stiff out of nowhere, along with the brake pedal stiffening up. I can't even get in the bonnet to check but managed to see the belt has shredded itself, could you give any advice? Is the belt a drive belt? Or another type?

Hi Ron Diggz, Sounds like a shredded belt but you'll know more once you get the bonnet open. They run a multi ribbed drive belt. I normally run a 7PK2875 Multi Ribbed Drive Belt on our VH transit 2.4L Diesel with A/C. If you don't have A/C you'll need a different length belt. The belt shredding could have damaged other components so best to check everything thoroughly while changing the belt :)

What was the result of the white teflon seal and breaking away from the rest of the seal?

The securing bolt has an external Teflon seal, but where the pipe passes through the bolt there is a snap ring and possibly an internal seal. You can get new bolts for around £10 sterling. Getting the old one off is the problem caused by the snap ring gripping the pipe. There is a RU-vid video showing how it can be done ….one slip and the cutting disc can cut the pipe. I found a pipe in a scrap yard and it did the job. I’ve just ordered a bolt and then I’ll try and replace it myself….I’ll use a disc to remove the threads and hand saw gently and file to cut down to the snap ring. Is it worth it ? Well Ford wanted to charge me £125 or £225 for a new pipe….I was in shock so I’ve forgotten which !!
