I had no issues with the house and car started without being plugged in and I went to work and did things like any other day. Oh, I did start wearing a toque to keep the ears warm while outside. Great story coming out of TX Hello from Texas! I need to take a minute and brag about this girl right here. My daughter Meadow is a sophomore at Construction Careers Academy studying plumbing, pipe fitting and welding. She’s one of a small number of girls in her school and the only girl in her class. On Monday our pipes burst after having single digit temperatures in west San Antonio. We had no power and water and had to go stay at my mom’s for the past five days. It was 34 degrees in our house. Today Meadow went with me to the hardware store, picked out all the parts we needed and did the repairs completely independently! This girl is only 15 years old and thanks to her, her three younger Autistic brothers and I can finally go home. She even swallowed her social anxiety and knocked on the neighbor’s door to see if they needed help with their pipes. Everyone worried about us down here in Texas just know we have a whole group of amazing young people who are going to change the world! (I’m making this post public because I know people are worried about all of us down here in Texas. If you can show some love to my girl I would appreciate it. Life is hard right now with pandemic, distance learning, younger special needs brothers and the joys of just being a teen. She gets down on herself and I just want her to see I’m not the only one who thinks she’s a shining star that’s going to make a difference in the world!) We are incredibly grateful for Construction Careers Academy Parent Partnership - CCAPP Update: A gofundme has been set up for Meadow and her school gofund.me/ceda3155

She sounds already very intelligent and knowledgeable, like kids would be in a country neighborhood. It’s not even bragging, it’s just a fact. Pretty lucky to have such a great daughter. And she fixes your plumbing, that’s wonderful. Girl I know has a cattle ranch with her family. She went to Oxford University, Texas A&M, and some other places, including St Andrews in Scotland. On the way to a meeting and all dressed up in a fancy evening gown, driving down the highway in Scotland, she had some car trouble. Got under the vehicle, made it good to go. Scottish truck driver that had stopped to help what he probably thought was some Southern Belle, judging by her kind of Texas accent, said it was the sexiest thing he ever saw. A Texas woman who is also already an accomplished plumber, for her family no less, is like the “Southern Belle” cattle rancher who fixed her car on a Scottish highway. The Texas boys are gonna love that, maybe you’ll have your hands full there. Texas women can manage men just fine though, they’re powerful. Figure she’ll do very well, especially now the weather has provided an opportunity to show how important her plumbing skills are. What a fortunate father you are to have such a great daughter. Of course plumbing or not, every kid is valuable, unfolding their personalities as they should, even ones that sometimes get into trouble. Nice thing about the country nowadays though is that it seems to have a little more opportunity for people to express themselves and grow. Cities were good too, maybe not so much after the past year.

Yup. When he said 5 degrees, I kinda giggled. After 1 month of well below 0 degrees F, and around 3 months of around the 5-10 degrees F mark, Id just call the Texans wussies :D To clear stuff out, we do get 90+ degrees days too. With a 75% or more humidity. So its crazy hot and the cold is fucked up. Had a friend over from Australia when we did have our heatwave. All he did was complaining on how hot it was. Hes used to the thermostat showing the same as ours, basiclly 7 months of the 12 in a year.

Matt saying “Texas is crazy” and I’m here saying the Midwest, period, is crazy. My friends and family in Kansas, Missouri and, Nebraska went from around -35° windchills last week to close to 75° in the sun yesterday. That’s a 110° difference in one week!
@septemily
@septemily 3 года назад
Yeah, here in St. Louis it got to like -20° windchill and now it’s in the 60s. But that’s the Midwest for you, always taking breakneck turns in the weather. Also, the sun and sky are different after that freeze. It’s like it wiped winter away with it when it was done, because now the sun comes and goes later and the sunlight feels like spring. It’s crazy.

It is called Geoengineering/Weather Modification, research it. Wait until they get a majority of the Population Vaccinated and turn up the 5G (which is basically a Military Grade Crowd Disperse Weapon) and people start dropping like Flies because of the Toxic Metals in the Vaccine. Of course they will blame it on the "New Variant" #9 and the Sheep will be told to put on 4,5,6 Ritualistic Shame Muzzle Masks along with a "New & Improved" Jabberoo in their Arms. Better have the Essentials on Deck because they darn sure do. Watch "A Rich Man's Trick JFK to 911" on YT, the 3hr version, it will give you a deep understanding of who Controls this World. The nice about being a country boy living in the city is that I have already fixed all my issues (which was just one because I also prepared my home for the freeze). All I had to do was replace a inlet valve on my washing machine. Well I did have to clear all the crud in my screens on my faucets because of the water stations going down.

And I second SimpliSafe!! We have it, and one night our alarm went off, we disarmed, grabbed our pew-pews and looked in every room. Cope came by, we learned from reading the app that the sticker sensor on our master bedroom window had simply come unstuck. We then decided to repair that sticker part in a more permanent manner, and no prob since. But we were happy to see the cops did respond, came into our home after we cleared them, they blessed all was good, and that was it. Had it been an actual break in, that person would be upset by our "reaction". Love our SimpliSafe!!! I will say that we could not do the doorbell feature as our front door is built too close to the side wall and the doorbell cam is too far for the space. We aren't electricians, so there was no option to move that bell feature elsewhere.

I would worry about breaking it off under the ground more than the freezing. PVC is pretty fragile. One tug on a water hose or a slight bump with a mower. But I’m definitely not going to pretend my stuff is maintained any better than Matt’s. Just a simple observation.

Having multiple chickens is easier than having one cat or dog. The amount of work you put in is up to you, so don’t be scared off! They are easy to care for. You can reuse materials and do a lot for almost no cost for their housing, too. And knowing you have a supply of food (eggs, or raising the birds for meat) is just a nice feeling, too.

Matt in case you don't already know, don't leave hoses attached to your Frost-free hose bib. Your pipes will freeze at the hoses attached. But you may never have that kind of freezing weather again in Texas but you never know until you know.

When the temperature changes you get condensation inside the tank of your air compressor, and then it freezes and you’re f*cked
@CGT80
@CGT80 3 года назад
Many large air compressors have automatic drains so there isn't that much condensation and even if it freezes it is at the bottom of the tank and has room to expand. The air lines are connected to the ports on the middle or top of the tank, so the ice isn't a problem. That compressor is not a piston style, and doesn't look like a screw type. I believe I have read of rotary vane style pumps. It has what appears to be oil filters on it, so thick oil could be a problem with it starting up. I have only dealt with piston style compressors and they are quite simple, but the other styles have more sensors and electronics, which may have had an issue.
