Fixing my mess up on the Mazda RX7, Crank Hub Wobble...

Well, I messed up when I built the 13B for the RX7. When I went to check Endplay when assembling the engine, I loosened the front hub when the engine was Horizontal causing the front Shim to drop. When you drop the front shim it and re-tighten the crank hub down, it squishes the shim down causing the crank pulley to wobble. Making it look like you have a Bent E shaft. Thankfully we did not and it was just the spacer! So we are replacing all of that with the E&J front stationary gear support and getting the RX7 Back on the Road!

"Interactive driving experience" is probably the best way to put it. FCs are like that too. Its that experience that made me fall in love with the rotary.

I agree the FC driving experience is really similar. On paper the suspension design isn't as sophisticated, but driving a turbo FC feels nearly identical in terms of handling and power with a less cramped cabin. RX8 is also nearly identical in terms of handling and braking, plus much more functional with a rear seat and decent sized trunk, but the power isn't quite there and not cheap to add power.

@@Smeedia just finished assembling the rear axles for the 8.8 rear diff conversion. Waiting for the new Turboblown Semi-PP LIM to be shipped out (hopefully in the next 2 weeks) then off to Fabrication. Running a Semi-PP 13b-REW with a G35-900 1.06. Once I get it back I gotta run the fuel lines and new wiring harness, then we're ready for 1st start.

@@Smeedia yea, I've done that with the engine in, didn't pull the oil pan either. The trick is getting it back together without pinching the bearing again when using the oem setup.

Glad to see it running. While burping the coolant, shouldn’t you have the lid removed from the funnel? I would think that having the lid on would cause a vacuum preventing air from escaping 🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't know if you've ever noticed this with plastic pop clips. There's a sweet spot to get them to come out easily. When you pull the end all of the way out it will fight you. Try pushing the clip back a little bit and it will come out easily!

Now you understand to never set end play while the engine is horizontal with the stock needle bearing set-up. E-shaft always faces up.

I did it vertically, but totally spaced when doing end play, made an adjustment when it was horizontal. 😅 definitely came back to bite me in the butt. Won’t do that again

You can check end play with the engine horizontal, but the front stack needs to be tight.

No adjustment, I talked with the Guys at E&J and the shim they provided puts end play in a usable range. I forgot what they had told me off the top of my head and don’t wanna misquote them. Talked with a couple others using that bearing support as well and they’ve had no issues thus far using them 🫡
