I had to cut with a grinder, an inch or two off the seat tube on my marlin because of the same issue. I cut it down to where there was just enough room for the clamp to sit comfortably down against that welded support piece between the seat tube and the top tube. It instantly felt better. It was so high that my fully extended 150mm dropper didn't fit between me @6ft and the bike. Never had a problem after the mod.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, you can’t expect All Mountain/ Enduro like performance out of down-country bike. It’s made for XC, fast and efficient. You mentioned the Yeti feels really good on the tech climbs, because this is what the bike is designed for. It’s not designed to bomb down rough DH trails like a toboggan. Since it seems like you enjoy descending the most, buy a long, slack frame with at least 140 rear /150 front, if not more travel. At that point you’d feel better descending even without the crazy high end parts. I understand you do this stuff for entertainment and as a business, but you have to understand what a bike is designed for, and that no amount of fancy high end parts is going to change that drastically.
@EvansMTBSaga
@EvansMTBSaga Год назад
I'm okay with sacrificing the descent, but I want a bike to climb well, and jump well. That's all that matters to me and my riding. I found that 120 is a great amount of travel for hitting man made jumps, but I could be wrong! I'm researching a 140/150 though! Thanks!

@@EvansMTBSaga if you are moving to the Bentonville area a trail bike to consider is the YT Izzo. Out of all of his bikes, this is Rich Drew’s favorite. This bike climbs great, and has a great long ride feel. It is not a race bike like the Yeti, so you will get more comfort out of it while having a playful and nimble bike. There are many others like it in its category. It may be the all around bike you are looking for

Love your channel! I agree on the seat stay problem with the D7. I've wondered if getting shorter cranks would help, but it seems like the smallest common size is 165mm, and the bike already comes with 170mm (less than 1/4 inch difference). Initially I wondered about cutting down the seat stay a bit, but even that doesn't have much room to decrease before hitting either the triangular reinforcement, or bottoming out the dropper post (unless a smaller one is used). I'm hoping for the future, they find a way to reposition the reinforcement, so that a shorter seat tube and dropper can be used.

I've never seen someone switch around parts so much, it kinda makes me laugh. However I'm impressed with your mechanic skills. I fall short when it comes to wheel building. I've replaced broken spokes, but I dont have the patience to build a whole wheel from the hub up.

@TheCrookedWheel
@TheCrookedWheel Год назад
Three numbres on the Polygon that make it a more stable bike... Reach, BB Height, and Wheelbase. Those relative numbers on the Polygon all correspond to a much more stable ride at speed when compared to the Yeti. Additionally, your local trails/riding style probably fits well with a 66.5deg HTA. The stack height may be a non-factor depending on what you run for spacers, but a taller stack will create a more upright ride, shorter stack makes the bike more accepting to steering input. Lastly, frame weight doesn't matter. Wheels and tires are the most important components, followed by geo, then suspension quality.

if you go too high bike will feel off. I have a 19 trek fuel i have down stroked to make a short travel version more downcountry now. Lifted the front end by 20mm with a crown race spacer to try to slaken the bike because the older frames a little steep. even with the bike in the low setting it just felt off. wrecked twice in two rides and damn near had a bad one sliding off a fast flow trail. Handling just wasn't there anymore with the bb being higher and raising the center of gravity. At 10mm it feels great though.

I think a longer travel bike would be good for you. More travel doesn't mean it climbs worse. I rented a Santa Cruz 5010 (140/130mm f/r) in Sedona and my brother rented a Trek Remedy 8 (160/150mm f/r), and the Remedy climbed way better, and also descended way better. My brother liked it so much he bought his own Remedy. Plus another advantage is that it's big enough for Whistler. I can't use my 120mm downcountry bike at whistler, and it wouldn't make much sense for me to use my 180/170mm f/r eBike there either, I'd have to rent a DH bike. I think it would be good for you to check out the Trek Fuel bikes (140/130mm f/r), since you like 29ers. Or even a Slash (170/170mm), I've heard great things about them.

I watched your review of the D7 while I was considering purchasing it. I eventually settled on the D7se which is basicly the same bike but with a boost Suntour raidon front fork (maybe an upgrade over the recon?) I'm also the same height as you being 175cm and I went for the medium frame, glad I did as seeing you struggle with the seat height and also not being able to use it fully extended would really stress me out. Thankfully on the medium the seat at it's max height is a perfect fit and it wont over extend my knees. I have only done a few upgrades, I went tubeless and put 2.4" magic mary and 2.35" hans dampf Scwalbes in soft trail compound, Ergon GA3 grips (those stock entity ones were agony!) and a Mudhugger front evo mudguard. I love this bike it rides so well on the roads and trails I ride on. I honestly can't see myself needing another bike for many years, the D7 just ticks all the boxes for me. Now looking at getting my wife one as shes on a hardtail at the moment.

The swap to some beefy grippy Scwalbes was a game changer for me. Would love to see you get hold of the D7se, I got it at such a bargain price too. the D7 at the time was £1.400, the D7se was on special for £909 and I had a coupon code for a further 15% off. honestly I don't think I could have brought a better bike for anywhere near that money.

Hey man, love your content. I’m looking at a D5 project right now and noticed you can buy the D6/7 chainstay by itself. You mentioned the rear triangle didnt fit but did you try just the chainstay swap (the are the same length according to geometry) If so what did you find the issue to be?
@EvansMTBSaga
@EvansMTBSaga 8 месяцев назад
The chainstay swap wouldn't work because the D7 chainstay ends with a female and the D5 ends with a male, or vice versa. I even tried to source bearings to swap the whole linkage but they aren't made

@@EvansMTBSaga Thanks for the reply, I can definitely see that now! I’m assuming the top linkages are in different positions and that’s why the seat stay can’t be swapped?

Is it a 140mm fork on the Yeti? Looks like a 130 will get you even closer on geometry numbers to the upgrade Polygon!

amzn.to/3KzmMuv Here you go. It's pretty good, allows microadjust and comes with a bunch of sockets and a case.

If I had to guess the yeti is probably about to go up for sale and he’s going to get a different frame better suited to his needs. Especially after the difficulty he had trying to get it setup.

@@EvansMTBSaga The market is in a weird shift right now. I can’t seem to sell anything unless I’m selling it for significantly less then it’s worth. Maybe try putting it on eBay? I think that’s what I’m about to start doing again the only downside is I guess eBay is going to be handing out 1099s to anyone that sells over $600 a year. Keep track of purchase receipts to use as a write off at the end of the year.

@@rhythm618 Yup, I think the market is going soft after the Covid glut for bike companies and accessories. All the people who took up riding are going back to their normal routines and I imagine selling stuff at a loss. Good for buyers, bad for sellers.

@@rhythm618 I can’t seem to sell anything unless I’m selling it for significantly less then it’s worth. Well that is what it is worth. People think thy can sell a almost new bike for a new bike price. If I'm going to spend that , I will buy new with full support and a possible return. Also, stuff goes on sale. You should expect to get SALE price for your stuff.
