This video is to help anyone handle a common issue with Samsung French-door style fridges. The issue is ice builds up around the drain line and causing water to flow under the crisper tray. In this video I show you how to dissemble the fridge to begin this repair. I found other videos that covered one part of this, but nothing from start-to-finish.

amzn.to/4a05Jxo (Samsung Water Filter)

This video will show you have to remove the bottom shelf, back panel, de-thaw the drain line, fix the problem, re-assemble the fridge and stop this from happening.

This was the only video that showed how to remove the pantry drawer shelf. Thanks Ryan, you saved me a ton of money, because I was ready to call it quits . Great video. Larry F.

I am posting up here so people may see it... BE PATIENT IT TOOK 15 MIN WITH A HOT HAIR DRYER AND SEVERAL CUPS OF HOT WATER TO FREE MINE. I was ready to give up after a few choice words (30 min ?) and then it broke through and it drained. I poured a few more cups of hot water (bent a solo cup) to make spout and hairdryer to make sure it was clean. Be Well! Be Happy!

Thanks Ryan - I followed your video and all worked well. My wife had her fingers crossed, she was hoping I would fail so I would have to buy her a new refrigerator since ours was only 6 yrs old. Ultimately, I had to go back in because it kept leaking. This time I change the filter and made sure it locked in place. All Is well and thank you again for saving me 2k on a new one!

We did exactly what this gentleman did in the video. Cleared the ice build up and installed a bigger clip. It seemed to have "fixed" the issue for almost a year, but now we're having the same problem again. I think we'll dive into this and try moving the defrost sensor like someone had mentioned in another comment and see how that does.

Before you try that, look again at the lower drain tubes at the back of the refrigerator. The man in the video alluded to the clog within those tubes but didn’t show it or suggest how to clear it. Those tubes (one for refrigerator and one for freezer) merely slip onto a plastic fixture. Slide the tube off and look into the top. You’ll very likely see that it’s clogged up with rust, other sediment. Pull that top plastic off the 3/4” tube and you’ll see what looks like a duck-bill constrictor with two small holes (or a full slit). That very small opening seems to get clogged up allowing water to back up into the refrigerator where it freezes and doesn’t have a chance to thaw. You can purchase replacement tubes, but I don’t know why that’s necessary. Just open those small holes/slit in that duckbill piece and make them larger. When I grabbed mine, they were brittle with age and broke off. I realized then that the replacement tubes (as seen in another video) simply came with a larger opening that I’d just accidentally created. Those tubes merely ensure the dripping water gets all the way down to the tray under the refrigerator and the tubes, themselves, are not the problem. The small openings in the duckbill piece is the problem. With those larger holes that can’t get plugged up, water can no longer back up in the inside tube and freeze. The part added to the heater tube inside the refrigerator no longer has ice to unfreeze since there will no longer be water backing up. It can’t hurt to have that piece there, but I’m not convinced it’s worth purchasing. (Another video suggested taking copper wire like you’d find inside a power cord and wrap it around the heater coil and extend it into the inside opening. That’d be free and do the same thing.) It just makes sense that some of these videos are tackling the symptom (frozen tube) and not addressing the real problem (clogged water drainage).

While you are at it, move the temperature sensor on the evaporator to the outlet (left) side per service bulletin. This will give a longer defrost cycle since the sensor is further away from the heater.

I have seen many videos claiming to have fixed the freezing and drain issue but none have proven replacing the drain clip or heating sensor or element actually worked

Ryan, a question for you. Where the drained water from the defroster go to?

Is there a video on repairing the moveable panel on the main Left fridge door. This long thin panel seals the gap between the 2 main doors but sometimes the panel drops down and misses to slot on top of the door jam. Sometimes I have to lift up the left door a bit but the door won’t stay up. What are the options? I read the manual that you can adjust the RIGHT door height but not the LEFT DOOR??? Anyone out there that has a trick?

It's been 6 months...how is that aftermarket evap clip working out?

Seems good so far. Around the same time I changed the water filter. I had an off brand filter and changed it to a Samsung filter. Not sure what caused the fix but no water leak anymore.

Ryan O'Malley -I just recently unclogged the drain behind the panel, used a syringe with a 10 inch long rubber hose attached. I squeezed the hot water in and out, until the hose entered the drain it’s full length and the water finally flowed down freely. It certainly did the trick and worked quite well but I didn’t change the evaporation clip. I want to eventually replace it but was wondering if Samsung sells something comparable although likely more expensive, rather than buying a less expensive aftermarket replacement part. And if true do you think its worth spending the extra money?

I did this fix, bought the part but then found that my drain line does an immediate turn inside the hole, so the replacement part really doesn't fit well. I went the route of the copper wire - did two wires, one on each side of the element, down into the hole about 3". All was well - I had ice again, no ice dam under crisper, etc. But about 2 weeks later the ice stopped AGAIN! I assume I'll soon have the ice dam as well. Anyone have any other ideas other than checking the drain line? I tested that after letting the ice all melt inside the refrig for hours and had no issues with water draining through.

when I removed the panel inside my Samsung and melted ice, like you showed in your video, water from ice was just sitting there. Not sure why. I wasn't able to clear that pipe. I didn't turn my fridge off for 24 hours. just maybe 8 hours. Any idea how to clear that pipe? If this was an ice that was blocking water to go down, then my question is, what causes that water to freeze further down in the pipe?! I think, something is blocking water flow and I don't know how to clear it. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I am no expert but there are drain lines at the back of your refrigerator. If they get clogged that could be your problem.

@@vipdude141 There's probably gunk in the lines. I cleared the drain tubes in the back on mine. they were almost totally clogged. I don't know how to clean the tubes above the drain tubes. No video shows this, that I can find.
