WIN With Lancaster Insurance: bit.ly/3BUKBKb
Our Land Rover Series 2A Safari looked a good example on first impressions, with honest bodywork, seemingly no rust and plenty of signs of regular maintenance from a caring owner. Unfortunately, its lengthy storage period prior to us buying it at auction caused all manner of mechanical issues that later revealed themselves. From rusty and seized leaf springs, to contaminated brakes that only worked on one wheel and incorrectly-sized tyres, our Landy has already cost us a few quid. Has it helped this 1970s 4x4 drive more like a car than a tractor? Jack took to the Cambridgeshire Fens to find out…

Restored Land Rovers dont like being laid up for long periods even in winter. You need to use them to keep everything freed up and working if you dont, you will have problems. That go's for any car..

Well done. Nicely presented. These are very scarce here in the US, and especially here in California. When I do spot one, I usually break my neck trying to get a look at it. Cheers!👍

Know of one of these exactly the same, excellent condition. Owner recently sadly passed away. No idea what plans there are for it.

"looked a good example..." I think that goes for most of 'em.... How often have you heard someone extoling the virtues of a Land Rover's simplicity..? Little did they know... But they are, somehow; worth it.

To be honest I thought the presenter (Jack) was fine.. great vehicles but scary how spend can rack up after a vehicle has been laid up.

Lots of good commentary there. Most landrovers are terrible to drive due to lack of use and maintanance, usually due to an absolute skinflint approach to spending. With a bit of investment they can be perfectly pleasant to drive. I wouldn't go parabolics personally as they often make the vehicle sit weird. New standard leaf springs are just fine. Good point about the tyres too. Many favour the monster truck look usually by fitting wider tyres. This leads to heavy steering and rubbish habdling, as well as the tyre and wheel combination being illegal when mixing old wheels with new type tyres.

Only if you spend the money it would cost to keep up an AMG G-Class on an old Land Rover, the old Land Rover will go on like an old Land Rover. If you don't, it will not go on at all.

I'd suggest that the phrase "A used Land Rover is a good buy" is an oxymoron.
