Yesterday i was watching a movie and could hear a popping sound in my kitchen i thought it was the cat. I kept hearing it. I went in there and one of my batteries was getting swollen so i disconnected it. Ten minutes later it burst into flames. Good size fire ball. I jad almost just left the house. If i did the house woulda burned down . I had al funny feeling and had put the batteries on a glass pan to charge. Lucky i did. I was able to grab it and take it outside. The night before i put the same batteries on the charger but felt funny about having them charge while i slept. Lucky I didnt. Coulda been bad. I haven't even heard of any catching on fire before, i just had a funny feeling. My dog saved me from a fire years ago. Woke me up. I kept yelling at him to leave ne alone, i was barely awake, then it clicked something was wrong. He was acting crazy trying to get me up. Living room on fire. Bedroom windows dont open. I woulda been trapped. I ran outside grabbed the hose. The smoke put me to the ground but i kept my arm.up and kept spraying the fire. The smoke was so black i could barely see the flames. Couch was on fire. Somehow i put it out. I coughed up charcoal for days. It was so nasty. The entire house was black with soot from about four feet up. Small house. I better count my blessings 🙂
Wow! Thank you for sharing that story! Your intuition kicked in at the right times! Talk about being blessed! Yes, Lipo fires are a serious thing, there are a lot of videos on RU-vid about that happening. You are supposed to store your Lipo’s in a Lipo storage bag. Which helps contain any fires if they begin. They also sell a spray that will put out small fires without leaving the same mess as a fire extinguisher. I’m so glad that you are OK, I’m sorry about your batteries. I know they arent exactly cheap. I would definitely consider investing in a Lipo bag, if you haven’t already. They say to even charge your batteries while they’re in a Lipo bag. The challenge with that is the leads aren’t exactly long enough to do that. And there aren’t very many extension options that are actually long enough. But we’re working on that. I’m going to make some extensions long enough to make it easy to charge in Lipo bags. For those were interested, they can buy some. And we might offer them as giveaways.
