A simple 1hz and h55 gearbox would be a nice simple start. Maybe find a wrecked post 92 hzj75 which will have disk brake front and rear diffs, they would be great diffs to slot under while keeping the simplicity of leaf springs, im sure the 75 series steering and steering box would also adapt. And in a few years once the budget is there a simple 1hdt conversion.
Glad to see you guys back! Looking forward to this build for sure, I reckon go a 12ht for the old girl. On another note, that hdj78 troopy is immaculate would love to see more of it in future episodes. Cheers fellas
Will defiantly be more Troopy features soon (checkout the instagram @truebluetouring for more), will see how far we can stretch the 55s budget but 12ht may be out of reach for now.
My Father had a FJ55 when I was kid , we did a trip to cape York in 1993 with it , I remember it having 6 cyclinder petrol engine that was seriously thirsty so we had a 180ltr drop tank in the rear to account for that . If you plan on doing another LAP with the FJ55 i suggest you use 1hdfte , obviously they are very pricey so if the budget won’t stretch maybe the next best a 1hz with your own turbo setup .. Look forward to following the build 👍
Old joke here "What do you call 4 landcruiser wheels in a paddock?" "FJ55 with the rust cut out" LOL. I reckon 1HDT and auto from a 100 series would be mint. Good luck, stay safe. Cheers Steve
