She actually sounds even better live, how rare is that? Incredible voice and performer. It's a shame other artists are trying to discredit & downplay her talent and work...
Wow, I never heard of this artist before - I kinda live under a rock. I discovered her by accident because this song ended a TV show I was watching, and the voice and message were so raw in it, I had to search it on RU-vid to hear more. Wow, what an artist - performance, voice, lyrics, blew me away! Took me by surprise. She's a poet - truly different than anything I've seen before. Now the question is, why haven't I heard of her before?? And that's what amazed me. She's all in!! This isn't usually my genre, but good is good and you know it when you hear it no matter what genre you're comfortable with. She stands apart - spellbinding and enigmatic. There's only two kinds of music anyway - good and bad. She's a poet. She touches the soul. She got my attention and I usually live under a rock when it comes to the latest thing. Mesmerizing. Deserves more recognition. I guess because she's a true artist that doesn't need a PR agent to promote her. She's not that crass. She just loses herself in her music and let's her music do the talking and that's enough for her. How refreshing in this day and age when what you are speaks so loudly, you can't hear what anyone is saying anymore - all surface no depth. My hat's off to you girl! And yes, that stage is to small to contain you! Deserves a bigger venue, but she's a take-what-you- can-get girl - because she can take whatever she can get and make art out of it. Reminds me of those artists who will take bottle caps or zippers and make art out of them. They'll take a common object that most people throw out and make you see it in a whole new way. An artist. You go girl!
Proof that the best doesn't necessarily win. Her video was literally the best option. His was more popular but nothing that year came close to Cellophane
I dont think people are afraid but rather have a hard time expressing themesleves in ways for people to understand them. One of the reasons why I love fka twigs is how different she is and how she stands out with her pole dancing and how her music uses forms of glitchy and techno type noises to accompany her angelic voice.
People accustomed to pole dancing being an exploitative, objectifying art form do not realise how truly difficult this that's here presented is technically complex and demanding. Her form is superb
I don't know anything about pole dancing. But I can see how high she grabs the pole, and the strength - core strength et al, that Twigs has, is phenomenal - and so controlled. Love her videos. In her 'studio' video for 'Cellophane', you can see how 'ripped' she is. If not seen already, would urge people to give her performances on "later with Jools Holland" a look too - and see her with a sword. She is *so* talented, in so many ways. A 2020's (and earlier!) visual storyteller & singer, with the influences of Kate Bush & Bjork, *so* updated, and accessible to all..
I've tried pole dancing at one of those try out classes and it's extremely difficult. Prejudiced people don't understand the strength, power, flexibility and confidence it takes to do that. One of the most empowering things I've experienced was actually nailing one of the moves lol
I had read that she was trained in opera and frankly this is very operatic. The themes, the visuals, the music; this is legendary. I’d love to see an opera composed by FKA Twigs because it’d be transcendental. An icon, truly.
This is so painful to watch to be honest. I feel like an intruder to her diary. An intruder to her life. We look up to these artists we forget they are real humans too, with real emotions. I hope nothing but the best for twigs. I feel like I already know who this song is for. Kind of. Hope they are both healing from the heartbreak. Amazing how art can be created out of hurt. This life is mysterious.
Idk if I’m desensitized to poles atp in culture with so much hyper sexual iSEE stuff out now but she did give a story type dance to the pole I’ve never see b4 except mabey cirque de sole
Props to Jimmy for having her on. He’s always brought on musicians you typically wouldn’t see on late night...I wonder if The Roots have a hand in that
yikes! Only other one that comes to mind is Bon Iver when they did Holocene years ago. It’s similar to this in that the audience likely had no exposure to the musician beforehand, and all of a sudden were punched in the gut with an incredibly emotional experience (and beautiful performance).
I think this song is about him, the ending conffirmed it for me. (They're watching, they're waiting, and hoping i'm not enough) the twilight stans clearly were teally rude towards their relationship
@@francograssi6600 I read about this song in the wikipedia now in google under 'Background and recording' It is confirmed the song is about her past relationship with Robert Pattinson.
After I had my car accident I was listening to this song on repeat because I thought I was gonna die but I didn’t and this song gave me hope to live on with my life, every time I hear this song I’ll cry cause it remembers my car accident.
I was watching a radio broadcast recording and she had a whole dance routine, like she knew damn well nobody was going to see the dance but she did it for the ART
Her commitment shines through. Lots of artists take themselves seriously (no matter the genre), but that dedication to their craft does not always translate outwardly. There is being an artist and then there is being perceived as an artist (vs an entertainer or vocalist) by the audience.
@@lolopop12345 it is you, she has been invited couple of times before. Fka is not so groundbreaking to the point shell make people uncomfortable, yall are not that different.
I'm in my 50's and her music, style and dance reminds me of the great Kate Bush. Keep your music raw and fresh. Compared to what is being played FKA Twigs will endure. Blessings my sister.
Oh man that Kate Bush is Straight demonic look into videos her dancing on skulls and vegetables it’s in reference to child murder and i don’t care if it sounds crazy it’s horrific when u start understanding the type spell you’re literally under and see I hope u do it’s sorcery
and she was snubbed with her performance at the grammy’s. i’m in no way downplaying her skills or pole dancing’s validity but at a music award show, she of all people deserved to showcase her musical talent. LOVE YOU TWIGS
and they didn't show a lot of her dancing, it was as if they were afraid of her kind of honest sexuality. On the grammy's she was like the female embodiment of Prince's sexual persona.
I said the Same thing! I loved her prince tribute but I feel like she could’ve done it without usher and showcased her dance AND vocal ability like she showed here. She deserves the recognition. Instead we got performances from the freaking Jonas Brothers and lil nas x, love them but COME ON. GRAMMYS should be the time for real PERFORMERS TO SHINE
As much as I love Lana Del Rey, it kinda annoys me that her little clunky "pole dance" on Coachella is so praised and going viral while everybody is sleeping on FKA Twigs for years. She deserves so much more recognition for her beautiful perfomances
she learnt pole dancing when she worked as a stripper. sex work is work and it takes skill and deserves as much respect as any other job including dancers, entertainers and athletes
L O R I you assume I see it as just stripping. I think it’s another form of dance with some acrobatic twist. So kudos to anyone that does this dance form because I already know how much work it is to just learn how to dance.
I pray for FKA Twigs, may she find someone who can hold her, cherish her, support her, and love her in the grandest of ways possible. She is an amazingly resilient & powerful being. I pray for your happiness, health, and for you to have love reflected back at you at every corner you meet, dear Fka Twigs
Her vocals are so raw and heartbreaking, the way she vocalises every emotion and then turns into a beautiful performance maintaining the emotion in every ounce of this performance is insane. She really deserves so much recognition
My interpretation of the pole scene: she began having fun, but it became too much like work. She was tired, but she got up again. She tried harder even tho she was more tired. She went upside down for him, for them. She spun circles. She did everything and gave everything until there was nothing left but to fall into a puddle of who it is you happen to be now.
lol jimmy did not know how to interact with her at the end. she is too good for this show. Also, how have people not heard of her? She's already a huge star in my mind.
One thing I have to say, she is amazing and how she has shown that pole dancing isn’t just a sexual dance it’s something that is beautiful and can convey a lot of emotion...
she sings as if shes playing an instrument and she dances as if she is singing shes one of very few artists that make me feel the same way great music before the mid 90s did.
How did this video not go viral? The song alone should've done it... her vocals are sad and haunting yet stunning beautiful. Then she takes pole-dancing, which some consider lowbrow, and turns it into art. She is a true artist.
Here after the Grammys, have to say I’m incredibly disappointed in the Grammys for not letting this ethereal goddess perform at least one of her songs and instead making her dance backup to Usher doing a mediocre tribute to Prince
fka twigs is a performance artist. she didn't have to do the pole sequence but she did it's the most beautiful form of surrender . authenticity and beauty in Magdalene that only few people can recognize.... hope she doesn't blow up like the weeknd
That part! When he was doing THE KNOWING and ECHOES OF SILENCE. the House of balloons album. And Thursday. 🤯 But yeah FKA Twigs is breathtaking. Puts people in Awe
