Except when the other DAW (that you're not using) is specifically made for the type of music you're producing. I switched from S1 to Bitwig like 6 months ago and didnt look back. Sure, S1 could get the job done but not as efficient as Bitwig does for the type of music and sounds that I make.

10+ years in FL...i have something to say hahahah weird...i see this statement that samples in FL are 'hitting harder'...but in fact all the magic is that if you drop your sample into channel rack to program lets say drums with midi - it will set the default fl studio sampler gain..which is 78%, and if you drop the same sample into the playlist as an audio clip it will set the default gain for the audio clip which is 100%..you can check that by self :) some other notes: 1) latest updates of recording workflow in FL made it pretty much as good...you just have to watch the update video few times to memorize the simple moves 2) quantize in FL is actually way more advanced than in ableton..so much options. and about delay - if you use FL Studio ASIO driver it just has more latency..so i recommend using your audio interface driver ..in my case ASIO: Komplete Audio 6, when it's set - there is almost zero delay and recording feels just as good as in Ableton 3) have to admit that audio warping and time stretching is literally amazing in Live, honestly that might be the only "thing" of Ableton to me 4) grouping in FL is pretty much as easy...you select mixer tracks to group and then click on any free channel, then click 'route to this track only' ...when i need to do this it takes me around 2sec 5) automations in FL are quite special haha, it's working in it's own unique way with it's own strange features...which you just like or don't, i personally got used to it years ago and never had a problem 6) autowarp the samples is might be cool for beatmakers, i'm not beatmaker, so back in a days when i was using Ableton i found out unwarping samples more frequently than i needed them in sync so when i need any loop to be adjusted to my grid - it takes me around 1-2 seconds to hit the dropdown menu, then 'fit to tempo' and clicking the needed bpm range...and btw when you preview loops in FL browser while your track is playing - it will autosync the loop just the same way Ableton does it :) 7) your right...Ableton browser is just better than FL, hope they update it at some point 8) and btw, for everyone who misses FL plugins in ableton - lot of them are available on Image Line website as VST's...Slisex, Gross Beat, Harmor...all the good stuff is there so you can use it in Ableton no problem :) ok im done

a substitute for fruity slicer in ableton is the simpler. all u gotta do is drag ur sample into simpler and press slice mode. then you can set it to 1/4 notes like in fl and shit and u can pitch it up to give it that sound. sounds pretty much the same bro. also put ableton saturator on the master with the "color" turned off and turn soft clip on. drums will hit just as hard as in fl
@KemzMusic
@KemzMusic 3 года назад
the reason for the delay on fl is because of latency.. each effect plugin you add will add latency. fl stock plugins create barely any latency tho. but external effects add so much pro ed 3 for exsample adds around 9ms of latency. if you go to file then audio it will tell you exactly how much latency there is in your current session. just switch off plugins of the mixer channels.

Okay I'm very new to all of this. Literally, the idea of making music came to me about 3 days ago and I wanna do it. Been using the trial version of FL Studio, found it quite nice. Today I went to this big ass music store in berlin, and the dude told me to look into Ableton, since it's better on many levels. Here I am watching this video and all I can see is that Ableton looks like Shiiied, compared to FL Studio imo. (only looks) it kinda hits me like a TeamSpeak / Discord thing. In which I find Teamspeak kinda better, but it just looks raw. In Discord / FL Studio everything looks slick and nice, tidy and polished. Everytime I look at Ableton I have this extremely anxious feeling of "What am I doing here?" Whilst in FL Studio everything seems a little bit more User friendly (?) I don't know how to explain it. Maybe this comment is biased because the last 2 hours I tried installing the Ableton Trial 90days version thingie and it just won't fucking work, but I don't wanna spend 500 bucks on something that I don't feel good about. Any help on deciding?

if you are serious about doing music eventually you're gonna leave fl studio. it's gonna work if you are exclusively into drumming or creating shitty trap beats to make you look like a producer to your friends on instagram. FL has something called the "fl texture" and a lot of people (like me) can tell if your song was created on FL and honestly even expensive plugins (that would turn this into a bad deal $) can't fix it. Sampling, slicing and creating automations easily are crucial to your creative process if you are thinking about doing music, FL studio was originally called Fruity Loops and it was designed for that purpose, to create LOOPS. It's cheaper for a reason and is the first daw of most people but it's pretty much never seen on big studios or big productions (take your time to research). Also it doesn't have any type of stimulus to live jaming which is the hole point of creating music, right? I like to believe you have intentions of taking your white ass off your gaming chair and actually PLAY something because without that you are no musician, you are just a FL user. it's the reason piano roll is not important on ableton live because you should be playing and preparing your self to perfom and have a good fucking JAM, you know? things happen creatively when you >>PLAY
@dr.demontale3250
@dr.demontale3250 2 года назад
@@creamangel33 Well, it's been a couple months and I really don't know what my white ass or gaming chair has to do with anything :'D But yea, back then I decided to get FL Studio and quite the expensive (for me) controller for it. For the record, I've been playing the piano for about 20 years, guitar for about 15 years, and a few other things like drums and all that kinda stuff next to it, but I just couldn't get rid of the input delay that either FL Studio or the controller gave me while recording. So I tried around a few months and then sold it again. Stuck to my Piano until now and as I did, stuck to making exlusive piano songs. Next time, when I have the money, I won't go back to FL, but try to work it out with Ableton. Thanks for your comment :D Have a great one

Another tip for automation in Ableton: The vast majority of plugins have automation when you *click* the function you'd like to automate. It'll automatically choose that modifier and queue it up for automation. I've found many automation possibilities that aren't even in the automation list by doing this.

I honestly like automations better in fl, having it in different tracks you can see it better. One tip from me is to group it with the track that is automated and click the arrow to show and hide it so you dont have to see it all the time.

@@beatsbyflare4590 I personally use FL and Studio One and the switvh from FL to Studio One it's not that complicated they have common things, they both has step squencer and patterns, actually you can glide notes in Studio One it's just different aproach there, basically you go to sample one where you loaded your 808 turn the glide and'mono options and whenever you put a note in the midi editor/piano roll above to a excisting note bellow you get the 808 slide effect.
@beatsbyflare4590
@beatsbyflare4590 3 года назад
@@tarkyismailov yeah i get that, just that idk if it works like fl because in fl the length affect timing and velocity and all that stuff, in other daws timing always was like static like once you set it, you could glide but timing was always the same no matter what

I use to want the drumroll feature that fruity loops had having ever owned Ableton. But after a few months of producing I figured out how to just ear out the beats I wanted for a track. So in away Ableton forced me to work harder through learning the mental game for music... I feel better about it in the end, feels good to just be like, “I want a trap “drum” beat” and just make it in a few minutes without the drum looper thing in fruity loops.

How can you forget Max for Live! It is one of the characteristics that stands out the most and FL doesn't have anything similar!! To have the option to make your own effects, visuals and instruments! Even if you dont want to learn programming... You can still benefit from all the amazing devices that the community shares (of which many are free!) no matter what genre or style you make. So c'mon... don't exlude m4l like it's an insignificant feature... It is huge.

I also use both. Definitely FL had those better piano roll, mixer etc. But recording is easy in FL bruh. Idk why so many people crib abt it. Maybe its just abt the workflow smh. One god level thing I like abt ableton is literally the playlist. Everything abt it. Like you don't hv to make clips unique before changing anything. Also you can just cut, copy and paste shit on the time line like you're using premiere pro. That stuff isn't very easy in FL. I try it and I'm getting better at it but yes ableton makes it smooth like butter! 😂 But there is ton of shit in FL which is waaayyy over ableton man! People just sleep. I'm sorry but u didn't even talk in depth abt that. In conclusion i think making quick beats, song arrangement n stuff... FL is the goat 🐐 If you wanna do sound design, sampling shit or playing live.... Ableton is your thing 🥂
