We have a couple of videos that go more in depth on this move, I would say check those out! One trick that might help is to make sure your fingertips point in the direction you want the flag to be released.

I have trouble doing it without scooping down and then up. When I tried my best to do it without scooping it wouldn’t go all the way around. I do colorguard at school and guess I’ve been scooping since last season and it’s been going at an angle(it’s like my 45s are flats and flats are 45s)

Try placing a trash can in front of you when you do it. If you scoop down, you will hit the trash can. Then you can start working on figuring out how to channel the power in the correct pathway.

Going into the silk more will give you a faster rotation, which can potentially make your toss higher as long as you are extending your arm higher as well!

What are the counts that you have? When I "counted" yours, I got 4 counts, is that right?

It honestly depends on the tempo of the music that you are using. If it’s slow, this could be a two count. If it’s fast it could be 6 or 8 counts.

i can’t seem to get the horizontal toss right no matter how hard i try. any pointers? i’m pretty sure my arm is angling out to the side & im just scared to give it power to actually throw it. Thank you so much!

Can you take videos of yourself practicing then watch them? You can see what exactly it is your arm is doing and compare that to the feeling of your muscles when it happens. Try it both with and without the flag.

I’ve heard it called that before, but technically there are LOTS of tosses you could call a “horizontal” so it’s a little more descriptive this way.
