I am wanting to basically do this but with more of a mosaic look with tiles, stones, etc. What is the exact type of base you used to adhere your stones and I believe you said you used the same product for the "grouting." Is this correct? I was planning on using bagged cement to pour the porch. I'll be starting from scratch with having to pour a foundation while also putting down at the same time the tile, stones, etc. The way you did each stone looks like something I can handle. I'm just worried about being able to get the cement to cover all sides of my tile, stones, etc. so I want to plan on "grouting" afterwards. Normal "grout" states you can only go as wide as 3/4 inch and my spacing will be more thank that.

thanks for the informative video. How thick of mortar did you use? looked like 2". Also, I know for concrete they make stress cuts and this sits on top of concrete, so just wondering if you found any need for that

so if I understand you correctly, you recommend doing the dry layout; then just lifting each stone one at a time, mortaring underneath it (border first), and using a string to get your slope correct. For the interior you used a straight board, and used it to push the inside stones to the proper depth. It sounds like you didn't worry about thick mortar oozing out to touch a dry placed stone either. but basically you leave the dry stones in place and gradually mortar one stone at a time, preserving your original layout and spacing. is my take away correct?

Not a fan of Home Depot bagged product. I am redoing a bluestone walk I did two years ago. 5" thick new reinforced concrete with stone mortared on top. Home Depot mortar in joints turned into mush. Been doing this for 20yrs and I can not figure out what happened as this was only time I bought bags over mixing my own.

That is wayy overkill for flagstone lol. I'm surprised you were able to get all even height stone

By overkill, do you mean too much mortar? If so, what other way is it possible to level the flagstones?

@@adamguarino3507 What do you mean by cut them down? You cut down the thickness of the stone? it all looked pretty level in the video.

@@yzebrov Yep He split down the stones that were too thick for the slope and starting point at the house he had to work with.

You ruined this video by shooting it in portrait mode. Not cool and very amateurish. Doesn't do your work justice.
