I work in sheetmetal at a roofing company. We found upon heat coloring copper to seal it we use Johnsons Floor past wax. I have some items that are several years old.

Great video! Other ;You Tuber's' could get some tips like: talk at a normal speed with a nice tone so we can understand what's being taught, nice, steady camera work and my personal favorite: *no music over top of the instruction*! Thanks for a great video, Larry! You're a natural born teacher.

This is so cool!😊 I just discovered this art form in the last week or two. I make jewelry (wire wrap and bench) so I was very excited to try this today on some copper rectangles for earrings. My first try, I had really good colors (purples, orange, red, and green) but I should've stopped while I was ahead. LOL! I went too far/too long and messed it up. I had to clean my copper and I'm about to start over, hence the reason for finding your demo. This is lots of fun and your video is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing your technique. Your work is really beautiful. ❤️❤️❤️

... why don't you have a thermal temperature detector, you know one that you point, pull trigger, and it displays the temp? For a newbie it would be helpful to know what temp the metal is and then what effects they can produce with the metal at that temp. Really a neat idea, and one I would employ if I did the type of fishy work you do Larry!

We can fix the torch to stabilize it and just move the copper piece in front of the flame for better control of the lines and patterns.

For all those wondering how to preserve the color, once it's finished, dip the piece in a lacquer bath of acrylic urethane..

Hi there, great video and thank you for sharing. Just a bit of advice needed, is there a method or process after colouring to seal those colours? such as a clear lacquer or wax or nothing at all? many thanks Sir.

Thanks for this, I can see all sorts of opportunities for this but the problem is sealing in the colour. Wax and varnish always take something away. but nice work and thanks for taking the time to share it. Regards . . . Andy

How did you attach the fish to the wire so that it did not fall off while heating? Seems like solder should have melted off.

so does that mean you can re-heat and re-cool and it will do the color changing again. In a large piece can you heat small areas at a time and then later do another section?

How do you keep the color over time? Natural oxidation will kill it, and every thing I've used to try to coat and save the color just dulls it down.

Hej i do this with a gas torch and a small one also but when finished how do i keep the colour onto the copper ? What i mean is, i sand down the copper, shine it up with wire wool and then use my burner on it , oce i have the colours i leave it cool, but then on some of them the colours all rub off and i am left with a blotchy colours . Any tips please ? Thanx could i use a lacquer to hold fast the patina also ?
