Flamework Demonstration - How I Make a 13mm Glass Bead

This is a close up view over my shoulder as I flamework. You can see my process from start to finish with very little editing as I form a round bead and decorate it with tiny dots. I filmed this demonstration at my glass bench where I work every day so you can get a real feel from inside my studio.
I am using Effetre COE 104 glass
Torch: GTT Lynx

I’ve been following you and your work since I started making beads 15 years ago. Thank you for being so open in sharing your work. When I first started making beads I was thoroughly unimpressed with dots. I thought they were simple. How wrong I was! They still challenge me to this day!

Many thanks for following what I do! Dots are both simple and complex! 😆🔥

Thankyou for sharing this, it’s so nice to see a bead video where you can see the work being done and not just a huge flame.

You’re welcome!😊 I also wanted to show it in ‘real time’ without editing so you can get a good feel for how I made it.🔥🔥

Hi Kristina. My dot bead exploration end about 2003. I was fun. Taught me a lot. Focus and attention. Disaplined my mind.

I am reminded why I work slow and cool when I watch you ,making beads. You were my very first teacher (In a mill in NH, you were pregnant with your first child) and I was so intimidated! All these years later I still work that way and my love for glass has only grown. Thank you for all the beauty and good habits.

I saw your channel pop up in my recommended and subscribed immediately. Wonderful video, thank you for sharing. I have the exact same torch (GTT Lynx), and had to pack all my stuff away a few years ago until I can be in a place where I can set up a studio again. I miss it a lot! Been inspired by your work for a long time. 💚

Thank you for watching and being curious about the process. The rods are referred to as mandrels. I make them from uncoated stainless steel welding rods. The white material on the ends is called bead release. You can purchase it from different bead supply companies. I have made homemade versions myself in the past. The formula is based on very fine clay and water and is essential for keeping the glass from sticking to the steel. 🔥
