Great news! I've always wondered what I could do as I live by the freeway. It's been a concern of mine and hoped that the foods I eat would be beneficial and also if the trees would help in some way. Thank you, Dr. Greger.
@@kaushalgogula2138 but broccoli are praised particularly for sulpharaphane. Vitamim C is abundand in another produce. It is said on nutritionfacts.org that the best way of cooking broccoli is very fast pressure-cooking, but before that they should be pre-cut a couple hours before, because apparently pre-cutting makes sulpharaphane much more temperature resistant, and after cooking it need to be sprinkled with mustard powder.
@@plantpowered269 Frozen broccoli is cooked to extend the shelf life thus reducing the sulph. Buy fresh broccoli, chop it up and freeze it yourself as long as you intend using it quickly.
@@Goodmorning1221- Taste is subjective and always changing, there's plenty of foods that I used to hate but liked them years later and vice versa. Our tongues are evolved to be a good enough indicator of bad foods and good foods, not the be all end all judge. I always liked and snacked on raw broccoli even before going vegan. You can apply what you said in these comment to everything. Are you gonna argue candy is good for you because kids like them?
@@Goodmorning1221- ok let's just stop researching foods, just get a bunch of babies and feed them the food in question, if they like it, good. If not, bad. What do you think the verdict should be if 50% of the babies liked and the rest didn't? like how the real world works lol. Broccoli is super healthy from what I know but go ahead, you're free to miss out on it's benefits.
Bicycles, ebikes and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing safe, protected bike lanes and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Ride to work, ride to school or ride for fun. Do your part to help keep the air clean.
My grandparents ate wild plants, weeds, because at that time there were no markets and the like, and not much food. Some I remember are: Amaranthus retroflexus, Chenopodium album, Taraxacum, Arctium, Cichorium intybus, Fagus seed, oak nut for bread, Rumex patientia, Portulaca oleracea, and most important of all - Urtica dioica and others ... My grandfather told me how most of his life (he was born in the last decade of the 19th century) he ate bread made of nettles and cereals, due to poverty ... Despite bad living habits (tobacco, alcohol, etc.), he lived for 98 years, and was vital until his death, read without glasses and had excellent hearing ... I think you should also process wild edible herbs in one of the following vedas.
Nettle is still considered a very medicinal plant, and it was once used daily in the diet, both fresh - in season, for soups and stews, and dry and crushed. I think it should be given a lot of attention, because it grows in most of the world ...
@@veganryori Why are you "answering" a question with another question? Either you have data, or you don't. And by the way, a soy joghurt (plus some ingredients) is not the same as "soy".
I know there are some yoghurts ( or dairy sustitution products) made of something called isolated soja... Alpro is made of soja beans... They explain that because of that (beans) it doesnt affect hormones in men ( older men) and I need to know if the same goes by women (40 and more). My question is because I only trust Dr Greger when he says "don't or do". And if I make "double questions" is because I know he knows what I mean... Thank you for you comments.
Thankyou for this info..was very helpful as where I live there are lots of farming and environmental pollutants that affect my health..mushroom spores and marijuana crops being newest issue here in Leamington Ontario Canada. Health effects are horrible..so thankyou for possible help with that.
Can I give leftover soy formula to my 1 year old within the same day or should I throw it away after 1 hour like other formulas? Since there is no milk in it, is there the same bacteria growth? thanks
Broccoli sprouts in a smoothie are wonderful and their sulforaphane content increases when you freeze them! They also taste great in a sandwich. I buy mine, I used to sprout them but I poisoned myself once and I had to be hospitalized for dehydration from food poisoning (it was the only thing I ate diff from my husband he does not eat sprouts) so now I buy them from reputable sources 😅
@@Jens-db1hr Hi! After I wash and strain them really really well, I immediately put them in a container to freeze, usually a plastic baggie, and I just grab a handful straight from freezer to blender no need to thaw :) I put them in the gallon size plastic bag so when I take them out I can separate/break them apart easily because they stick together if put in a glass container 😂
@@plantpowered269 you are right when it comes to broccoli, but with sprouts though they are sensitive to high temps like boiling water, freezing mimics chewing by breaking down the sprouts and so they have been “pre-chewed” in a sense by the freezer. Here is a good article on how freezing the sprouts affect them :) doi.org/10.1039/C5RA03403E

you mention benzene is a known carcinogen. What was the lead in leaded gasoline replaced with? What natural occurring substance has the highest concentration of benzene, and why do we build our roads out of it?
