BIGBANG are one of the few kpop groups that everyone recognizes as true ARTISTS. They are the Kings of Kpop. They normalized idols writing their own music. Their influence is immeasurable.

Ok time to take my ELF hat off temporarily and put on my VIP hat. Haru Haru was my first Bigbang song and the one that made me a VIP for life. They are coming back this year finally as a 4 member group. Don't listen to all the trash spoken about them, especially by fans of other groups. Just enjoy the music. A lot of them do play instruments. Daesung plays the drums during some live performances of Sober (live in Malaysia please 🙏), but they're not a band band, if you know what I mean. G-Dragon is a genius song writer. He started the trend for idols to write and produce their own music. He created the first proper lightstick in Kpop (their crown lightstick). Bigbang is basically a group of 5 individual superstars who come together to make magic. They all have successful solo careers. Last Dance is still painful for VIP because it was the last video before T.O.P went to do his military service and the world turned to hell. But they're coming back soon (🎊🎉🎈🔥finally!). As Only ELF I can say that the only worthy competition that Super Junior has is Big Bang. The kings of the hallyu wave and the kings of Kpop. 💙💙💙💛💛💛

Big Bang debuted in 2006. By 2007 they were winning Korean Music Entertainment Industrys greatest Award for Song of the Year which was the song called Lies. They were the first Kpop group to win an Award like this an be recognised by their peers. They are a Kpop Group and there was even a 8 show programme on their forming back in 2005 - 2006. However they are made up of 5 individuals that have all got such different sounds, visuals, personalties, fashion, artistry, musical genius and so on.....They put Kpop on the world stage. Their are 5 members and they all have Solo careers too. They arecalled the Kings of Kpop. Reason why - I'll give you a couple. Nearly 200 of their songs are written and produced by the groups leader G- Dragon. They took control of their group in all aspecrts from Lyrics, Melodies, Music Videos, fashion everything. They are also great storytellers as G D songs always tell a story - good, bad or indiffernt. As artists they believe in the words they sing, and this is what comes out in the music they create. They are also all musicans in their own right from piano to drums to harmonica to DJ vibes to well you name it. They also created alot of 1st in Kpop from Lightsticks at concerts to icoic sayings (Fantastic Baby). They broke the mold. Kpop groups in the 2000 were considered puppets of their companies and were directed in all they did from what to singto what to wear. Not these guys. They have 13 years of music to listen to, and a comeback in the next 3 months after a 4 year hiatis and everyone cannot wait. Lastly YG entertianment were made by this group and went from a small time company to the powerhouse they are today regardless of any scanndals. They have never claimed to be what others wanted, they are just themselves and I love them for that.

their sound is not for those who wants projected perfection. their songs aren't an escape from the reality we live in. they showcase the reality a lot of people try to escape when it comes to kpop. they have that gritty feel to them. since they write, compose and produce their music... it is easy to feel how passionate they are with their craft. how personal the songs are and how uniquely different they are. i think what is confusing about them is the HOW. how they actually work. i mean they really do have strong personalities. they have different styles. they do not even try to adjust themselves to make the sound of the song homogenous. it is weird that their voices work together. but they do. i think you will see it more in their live performances. if you think they sound free in their recorded track... you should watch their live performances. Oh and thank you for watching them even with all the issues. sometimes people forget that there is more than 1 truth for every issue.

Wow, someone who starts their BIGBANG journey with taste... You should watch all of these songs live- the feeling, the realness of the emotions truly comes through with the live versions. BIGBANG has the vocal range of to be that "perfect, pertty boy group sound", but the actually feel their music, which makes you as a listener feel it, and with the amount of songs they have about depression/ loneliness/ heartbreak ect- which are hard ugly feelings, their vocals just reflect that. Ahhhhh omg I'm so happy that you found your way to BIGBANG. 😭😭😭 I can write an essay on just how legendary and amazing this group is but I think you'll come to realise that yourself as you watch their videos. BIGBANG was such a game changer for the kpop industry. They were the first idol group to rly produce their own music, TOP (the rapper w the low tone) was the first underground rapper to become an idol, they originated the first ever kpop light stick and in an era where everyone would wear the same clothes etc, BIGBANG rly focused on individuality. Theyre like soloists who somehow came tgt in a group. And their leader gdragon, is basically a celebrity's celebrity. You most definitely, definitely HAVE to watch their live performances. I've been listening to kpop for over a decade now and theres still noone that comes close to the energy BIGBANG gives in their live performances. Heads up though, if you like synchronised choreographies, they are most defo not the group for that. Hahaha. These boy get sweaty, run around, shout and perform for their damn lives like absolute rockstars. Loll

When you said you got the feeling that they're "not afraid", you were absolutely correct. BigBang have always broken the mold, pushed the limits and set trends. They don't conform to the norms of kpop and because of that, they have revolutionized the kpop industry. They were the first of many things that kpop idols and groups are emulating today. The list of "firsts" is too long. Just know that kpop would not be what it is today if it weren't for BigBang.

Hi there! Thanks so much for reacting to BIGBANG and for displaying such a positive reaction to their music. Long message ahead! I am soon-to-be 35 years old and I discovered BB in 2012 after my marriage of 5 years fell apart (we had been together for close to 10 years total). I used BB to temporarily escape real life and my problems but I soon realized that their lyrics were not necessarily designed for that. For further backstory, I am by no means a kpop fan. I have liked a handful of kpop groups throughout the years, but I was never a true stan of any of them apart from BB. I grew up listening to music in Spanish (love ballads), 70s & 80s music, and some r&b. I later got heavily into punk rock in middle school, which then led me down the street punk, ska, hardcore, and metal paths in high school and in my 20s. As a fan of those types of music, I highly valued artists who write their own music and who put on amazing live performances - as I had been to over 300 concerts as a teenager. I don't want to say that my standards for artists to be a fan of were high, but just vastly different from a typical kpop stan because it was unheard of at the time for a kpop group to write their own music or even SING during live performances - most of them choose to lip sync, which is understandable considering that they place so much importance on their choreo and it's so difficult to sing and execute complicated choreo simultaneously, so I get it. I get it, but that's simply not the type of group for me. Furthermore, as a former punk kid going through a traumatizing separation, I know what it's like to feel like a loser, an outcast, an "undesirable", a brokenhearted fool, and just plain lonely and misunderstood. I immediately felt a deep connection to BB and their lyrics as if we were kindred spirits. You kept saying that BB isn't afraid to sound ugly -- and you're absolutely right. They wear their hearts on their sleeves and aren't afraid to sing about heartache, rejection, isolation, or mental illness. BB isn't a group for everyone, as you will see if you ever encounter any of their countless "antis" online. Please don't listen to any rumors coming from antis and try to seek accurate information from valid sources, because a lot of antis have taken tragic events that have happened to members of BB and formed completely made up and false narratives around them. And finally, one thing you absolutely NEED to know about BIGBANG: THEIR LIVE PERFORMANCES ARE LEGENDARY. We VIPs (our fandom name) are known to be absolutely horrendous at streaming their music videos for views because we all would rather stream their live performances. There isn't another group out there like them, and they were the original kpop group that hired an actual BAND (with guitars, basses, keyboards, percussionists, etc) to take on tour with them and elevate their performances to the next level. I've been waiting for this. BigBang, first group that got me into Kpop. Highly respected by generations of Kpop groups and the music industry as well. They are labeled Kings of Kpop, and rightly so since they started they trend of Kpop idols that compose, arrange and produce their own music. G dragon their leader, is just one of a kind. Incoming VIP of 12 years to explain the members and their influence on kpop! BIGBANG are a kpop group and helped create the standard of kpop groups today. Idols are not limited to dressing in the same outfit and doing strict choreography. Kpop is a spectrum of many genres and styles, after all. BIGBANG debuted with more of a hiphop vibe since that was the style of YG back then, but then evolved into the BIGBANG we know of today. They influenced a lot of the things we kpop fans know today - for example, they coined the idol expectation of airport fashion. On top of it all, artists like EXO, BIGBANG, Got7, BTOB, Winner, and more have stressed how BIGBANG as a whole are not idols but artists. They also credit the group with being an inspiration. Their leader, G-Dragon, has been in the music industry since he was like eight years old and became YG's most iconic idol very quickly to the point where he influenced most of the kids who debuted later in the 3rd and 4th gen (the more recent idols). GD's talent in producing music opened the door for idols to be allowed to produce/write their own songs - which wasn't allowed prior to him. He also designed BIGBANG's lightstick which became the first actual lightstick in kpop and became the standard for every group to have their own. He's also incredibly famous worldwide as an artist and fashionista, being Chanel's first kpop artist to be ambassador AND being invited to huge fashion shows by high end designers. He's so famous that he's had sold out solo concerts worldwide; and when he released a collab between Nike and his brand Peace Minus One, it sold out worldwide in seconds. Shoes. It's also important to note that while his stage persona of "G-Dragon" is very fierce and an iconic performer, his true self as Kwon Jiyong (his birth name) is quiet, kind, and shy. He is coined as the King of Kpop, and his whole group are also called the Kings of Kpop. Nobody to this day has surpassed him, but YG trainees often make him their goal. TOP was the first deep-voiced idol rapper and that became an iconic part of many groups to this day. His solo work is incredible and he was also one of the fastest Gen 2 rappers. TOP also is an accomplished actor and has a passion for art/unique furniture. While he's usually described as being a bit of a goofball, his stage persona is one of the coolest in the whole industry. When he just opens his eyes, the whole crowd screams. He's been best friends with G-Dragon for a long time before they debuted and doesn't like to show a lot of skin, so he's usually covered up. If he even shows his bare arms it's a miracle. He's not your typical "idol" in terms of behavior, either. He's not afraid to ruin his image for the sake of the moment and often makes his friends laugh. TOP doesn't sing very much but when he does, it's so charming and hits VIPs like a truck. In "Last Dance" it was their last song before he left for the military, so he was tearing up at the end. Taeyang is a soulful vocalist that went to school with GD and the two were the first of BIGBANG to be trainees in YG. They wanted to debut together as a hiphop duo and trained a lot in between cleaning the building and sleeping on the floor together; but YG threw them into a survival show and made them debut as a group. Taeyang is one of Gen 2's best dancers, as well. He's also married and has a child now! Daesung has powerful vocals and is a total mood-maker of the group. He's a comedic genius and can perform trot songs with passion. While he's not as popular as other members in Korea, he's the most popular member when it comes to their popularity in Japan. He's held very successful solo tours there, as well. He's extremely kindhearted and loves to have fun; and he can also play the drums and performs live with them when it comes to "Sober" stages. Seungri was their maknae and a vocalist. He owned a dance academy, a ramen franchise, founding a record label, was CEO of YGX, and invested in other businesses run by friends or acquaintances. He became mixed up in a bad case called "Burning Sun" and had to leave the group, but while the final verdict on the investigation shows he's innocent in terms of the Burning Sun case, he admitted to gambling overseas and something related to prostitutes who were at a party for businessmen? Therefore he's got a prison sentence of 18 months after he finishes his military service. More detailed information about the case below if you are curious. The Burning Sun Case: TW // r*pe, ab*se Burning Sun was a club where very bad people were drugging, ab*sing, and r*ping women. The main man part of it was a singer called JJY and he would record videos of these r*pes and send them through a group chat to other famous people. Somehow it was leaked that this was going on and a reporter decided to use this case for her own benefit, so she made it seem like Seungri from BIGBANG was part of it. The case exploded and became THE hot topic, even entering foreign news worldwide. The rumors spread that Seungri owned the club - which he didn't but I will get there - and that everyone started calling him a r*pist, ruining his image completely to the point where he quit BIGBANG and left YG to cooperate in the case. The men who were part of the group chat were caught, shamed, and were sent to prison while Seungri kept being investigated because they couldn't find anything. The victims in the case said he wasn't involved, and it turned out the club wasn't owned by him but he only had a small share there just has he had shares in other random companies. It turned out that he wasn't part of the group chat, either, and JJY who was the main man in the case even admitted that Seungri didn't know anything was happening. He said he had once sent a video to Seungri through a separate business chat but that Seungri thought it was p*rn and scolded him not to send that stuff. The reporter who started it all later came out and said she lied and fabricated the evidence to make it seem like he was involved just to gain traction on the case. The outing of the Burning Sun had earned her awards and fame, after all. However, it cost Seungri his entire career and reputation. While he was innocent of the major charges related to that case, they kept investigating him because the public were demanding he be caught for anything at this point. They blamed him for the Burning Sun. Through the investigation period, he did admit to gambling overseas and some charges related to prostitutes being at a party for businessmen that were unrelated to Burning Sun. He will serve his 18 month sentence he was given by the military court. You'll see a lot of people who will always paint him as the "bad guy" of Burning Sun and will refuse to even acknowledge the words of the actual victims. While Seungri does deserve prison time for breaking the law, I wanted to share the actual case information and results that we've been keeping up with for years now before misinformation spreads to you. The whole case caused a lot of stress for everybody - the victims, especially, because it was dragged on for so many years.

Your commentary once again is on point! I don't follow BIGBANG closely but I do know that they don't sound like a typical kpop group; I feel like they already transcended that genre. Their performances are not so much focused on choreo (though they still have it in some fashion), but more about their energy and connection to the crowd. They can be pretty crazy--like rockstar/party/rave type of crazy--but their slower songs are really gems, showcasing their vocal colors. (Ahem~ Don't mind me, but since you've now seen both iKon and BIGBANG, I'm awaiting the day you check out their brother group WINNER. one of my faves hehe).

I think some of the appeal of bigbang for me is how raw they are - they're really really good at conveying emotion. Anyway, I thought your comments were v insightful. And it was a good choice of videos to get a sense of their range! Haru haru's MV always makes me laugh (they're such babies in it!) but the song is a bop, even if the production is a bit dated now. As many comments said, they're awesome live. Their MAMA 2015 performance is one for the ages. But you might want to explore more MVs first. There's a lot of good stuff out there - Loser, blue, fxxk it, let's not fall in love.. and then all the solo stuff. Would love to see you cover more from them!

The member that you were referring to as having an amazing voice is Daesung. He is very famous as solo artists in Japan and is known as D-lite there. He is also a very talented drummer in fact in the live performance of Sober, he plays the drums. Fun fact about Sober MV, they were drunk while filming it. In a way they never conformed to the kpop image so I guess they are "controversial" within kpop standards because they've always been unapologetically themselves while kpop nowadays obsess with "clean image." They never cared about dancing, they go wild on stage and freely interact with their audience. In the early part of their career they did some choreography but totally abandoned it later on. They don't have a lot of songs in their discography. They only have 67 songs in their 16 year career while I know one kpop group who released almost 60 songs just in one year. Kpop group nowadays churn out songs like they come from a factory line while Bigbang typically releases a full album every 3-4 years then tour as a group, then they go into hiatus to focus on their individual solo careers.

As btob known as the group with the best vocals, bigbang are known as the group with the best LIVE performances. Their live stage’s views are insane bcs of that. It’s on a whole another level, the ENERGY!! Btw haru haru is still famous bcs they change it on the live ver cuz of the old music, they perform with a live band that is for them but since they had a hiatus yg used them for blackpink as well. Your comment about the individual character about their voices makes me think of some songs which could kinda show off their individual duality too. Each of them has such a unique musical colour and even as solo artists have that range even on their own. Some sort of 'Matched Pairs' of contrasting songs that come to mind For T.O.P (the really deep voice)- DOOM DADA, Still waiting for You (hi haruka) For Daesung (the other voice you mentioned enjoying the quality of) - Anymore(LIVE perf PLEASE), Look at me Gwisun For Taeyang- I think you've already heard Eyes Nose Lips, but I'd recommend, Ringa Linga and Don't Wake me Up. For G-Dragon (oof this one is super hard for me too much variety to accurately sample) but Maybe Untitled 2014 and Crooked. Also to answer your questions: Yes they're still together as a 4 member band and are actually slated to have a song release sometime this year. Some of the members do play intruments, most famously Daesung plays the drums and Taeyang plays the Piano sometimes during performances. Though the generally have a separate live band for their concerts. If I'm not wrong GD also plays the piano and flute, T.O.P can probably play the guitar but don't quote me one that 😅. Both of them do produce music themselves though. GD being Bigbang's main producer. Sorry this was LONGGGG. I just got super happy watching this reaction I guess.

I am loving your flashback videos. when I started listening to Kpop they had just started their military service, then everything happened to the group but I ve always heard how they are legends, I know only taeyang's eyes, nose, lips, and how G.Dragon is a great artist. I get so frustrated with people condemning a whole group for one person's actions. The other members and their happiness, I will defend to the end of this earth. They have dealt with a lot and in a society that was not structured in any way to help with anxiety, depression, or any other mental health issues; let alone the issues that their gigantic fame presented to them at a young age. Everyone makes mistakes but it's not our jobs to persecute. Big Bang is amazing at their jobs and true artists and I can't wait to see what else they do!

I've been missing Bigbang so much so i decided to revisit this RV. But it only made me cry and miss them more 😢. I love GDragon a lot but Bigbang shines the most as five. It hurts tremendously that my beloved kpop groups - tvxq5 and bigbang have to go on separate ways. And then BTS is on a hiatus as a group. I'm just praying that SB19 will be together for a long time coz they are the first Ppop group that was able to fill the void left behind by my Kpop faves.
