Isn't the point to portray the original as perfectly possible esp if you have this possiblity. There's no logic in trying to imitate the artist voice when it come to legendary stars. Let's be grateful they have the gestures in check and looks, thank God for everlasting recordings 😉 I would prefer to listen to the original voice anytime. But I can't say the same of JLo career. She shouldn't be a singer, she is better actress and dancer. Selena was a complete artist, but not everyone is made of that same cloth.

Kitty Love I really don't understand the negativity. It's been a while, but I remember seeing like a documentary & JLO appeared to be very humbled about being chosen for the part. Selena's Dad was on set for most of the production & even before they started shooting, she was given access to not only private family pictures & tapes, but she also spoke with a lot of the family & friends. The girl did her homework & you could tell in the way she performed. And the resemblance was uncanny. People change, I know, but I'm glad that not only the producers, but also the family chose JLO to represent one of the best female Mexican- Tijuana performers of all time.

yes I saw an interview of her not long ago saying Selena was a "low budget film" that a lot of latin girls wanted to be in. That is a paraphrase of what she said I was shocked. It's extremely true. J.Lo was struggling before she landed the role of Selena. If Selena had lived, J.Lo would probably had minor roles as a star or did novelas, rather than sing. Selena would have impacted & changed the world since she would have stayed true to herself [i.e. not give in to Whitewashing, etc].

I am not Mexican, but am a fellow person of color, and still get emotional when thinking of or watching Selena's life story. She inspires women all over, especially those in marginalized communities that we can do anything. My heart goes out to her family and am happy she lives on today. She is a legend still inspiring us decades later.

JLO did really wonderful playing the role of Selena. She literally brought Selena's character back to life and looked so much like her ,that one would think it was Selena in the flesh. Music was stolen, Demo tracks, lyrics & even vocals from other lesser known artists at that time were stolen. A lot of her hits she didn’t even sing herself. The creepy part is that Jennifer herself isn’t even aware of it. She genuinely thinks it’s her voice on the tracks just because they had her sing it in the studio but they never hit record..
J.lo portrayed Selena excellently. There's so much resemblance in everything. She made a movie worth to remember even after 22 years. The movie came out when I was born basically. She became a tragic persona and even if I adore the music I prefer not to listen to it cause it reminds me of her. Even if I haven't knew her, I feel heartbroken. Like I miss a piece of my heart. She would be 48 now.

The most disrespectful thing a person can say is that J-all would be nothing had it both been for Selena’s death. How dismissive can people be? J-Lo was always very ambitious and worked very hard for what she wanted. Take a look at her most recent performance at the Super Bowl. She practiced until a few hours before the show. She works hard for what she wants. That’s like saying Selena wouldn’t be as popular today had she not died because her death brought her more fame. That statement totally removes validation to Selena as an artist and a person. I love Selena but her fans are too much sometimes.

Max Martinez Selena was very popular, but she wouldn’t have been known by almost the entire world had she not been killed. Her death bumped her to where she’s at now- and her family’s constant thirst for more money. Her music is timeless and she was amazing, but her death and family have kept her relevant. J-Lo has maintained herself busy with many projects that have had nothing to do with Selena and she is still incredibly relevant. Keep in mind that she probably didn’t even have any say in which artist sang for her. She was just the face of the artist.
