Watched your video a few weeks ago and finally got to try it out last night and was pleasantly surprised to find it worked great, I thought it would shake about on the rough track but it stayed steady where I aimed it. Another use for old inner tubes to add to my list. Ile be carrying the band's with me all the time now. Thank you.
OK. Found the method that I am going to use :-) I actually bought some mount a while back, but it is too weak and this looks like it will be sturdier than the mount I have. Thanks and happy riding!
Kudos for doing this fiddly video. Torches are a great way to light up the road ahead. The idea is to be seen and be seen. A light on your cycling helmet works to get you seen and this idea solves the problem of being seen. I wouldn’t lose sleep about dazzling a car driver because a lot of them don’t like cyclists 😉
Great, simple solution! Thanks so much - mounted my light last night and that thing isn't going anywhere. Had problems in the past with wonky mounts. I like how the angle on this set-up is adjustable. Cut a few extra loops just in case and put them in my gear bag. Cheers!
Really useful (thanks for sharing) - I have exactly the same problem - Bought the ultrafire 5000LM Zoom XM-L T6 LED Torch and cant find a road bike mount to fit it on a 3.19 diameter bar (the Torch circumference is 10 cm ) - Bought 5 different mounts all diameters are small
I mounted a tac flashlight with rubber bands and carved styrofoam also rear safety light a tac flashlight with a red laundry soap bottle cap see my Facebook page for pictures I had a mixed bag of rubber bands used the fat ones to mount the head light
No one should downvote a video for showing them a cheap and effective method of making their night journey safer. Especially considering the prices of dedicated bike lamps, that offer the same or less performance of the budget metal, rechargeable flashlights. That said, there are some very good 'pieces of plastic' on the market, designed specifically for fixing a standard flashlight to your handlebar. They offer finer adjustment than the rudimentary elastic band method. Even with the extra spend on a bracket, it can still be cheaper than expensive bike lights. This video is useful because it shows you how to solve a problem quickly, at a pinch, when you have no other option to hand. I will definitely be using this while deciding on the best bracket to buy for extra adjustment and unclipping convenience.
How did this hold up? Considering doing the same to mine. I have a standard size handle bar but my best flashlight is super narrow so I think this would be better.
