FLAT/APARTMENT HUNTING IN BRIGHTON....... 

How silly of lipstick lady to be so defensive! NOT the way to inspire loyalty in customers. We can all forgive a below par product but NOT such poor customer service.

I live in NYC and I would say that the concept of "neighborhood" has changed dramatically. Years ago, I lived in the West Village and there were loads of small restaurants on Bleecker Street until the early 2000s and the rents were raised, buyouts were offered and the quaint was replaced with commercial boutiques. When they couldn't pay the rents, they were once again replaced, etc. The pandemic caused many family business owners to reconsider staying open. Some continued but the older folks closed, particularly if their children didn't want to take over. It's very sad and I have to admit the flavor of living here has diminished.

Oh Suzi, I'm so very fond of you and so utterly grateful for what you do. Helps me, and many others I feel sure, through the dark days.

We had a traditional hardware shop like that in my family - I was born in the flat above it. My uncle kept it going until he was 80 but wasn't making much money towards the end. Our shop was in a row of about a dozen - all but one (a butcher's) have now gone. The rest have become office premises. The saddest part is that the community feel of that little shopping area where neighbours would meet and chat no longer exists.

Like you I’ve got to downsize.I’m enjoying sitting in the garden on these few sunny days thinking how sad I will be to leave my lovely garden and the foxes then remind myself of the long winters and the heating bills.

Until very recently I'd have jumped at a flat with lots of stairs as stairclimbing is SUCH good exercise. But my knees now wouldn't cope as they hurt too much when going down 😢

I agree. The first flat was great. I have a flat with no lift because I fell in love with it. I am sixty now and asking myself what was I thinking. lol. Your bathroom is gorgeous. Lots of light!! So do not settle and there will be one that has all the checks that you want

I am in the same boat as you. I have a 3 story townhouse and I CANNOT do the stairs anymore! Looking for a one level patio home here in the USA with some outdoor space.

Go for an ultra modern pad .... we all fall in love with the period buildings but sadly they are cold and draughty in the Winter ... Lol 😊 ..

Never get a job as an estate agent. I think you’re supposed to point the pluses rather than the minuses of your house lol

I know how you feel about the wind and the cold. I live up the road in Worthing in an old flat by the sea. I love it here but it’s so windy. I love Brighton and Hove actually though and I’m there quite often. PS I live downstairs in a converted flat and it’s not been soundproofed!!!!!!!!

Just don't look at flats without a lift. My son has a 2nd floor flat and all the carriers just buzz the intercom and say ' there is a delivery from xxx, it's on the shelf in the hall way'. I always thought if I moved to a flat it would be on the ground floor near a garden and have a small private patio. But I worked as a house manager in over age 50's apartments and the ground floor was always busy and often noisy, the top floors were quietest and had nice views. Good luck x

The one thing I could never, ever do is move from my detached home to any property containing the word ‘communal’. It’s nice and peaceful when everyone’s at work - just wait ‘til the other residents’ grandchildren come a-calling and you’ve got screaming kids right underneath your balcony - you’ll wish you’d stayed in your windy house with its peaceful garden. I wish I could afford to buy it - I’d be there in a heartbeat. Lovely vlog and good luck with the flat-hunting: I’m living vicariously at the moment! x

Hi Suzie, lovely seeing those apartments. Agree, none are very special and all so old. And "NO" sunshine coming into any of them. So important to have sun in your living area during winter. I think it's north facing apartments that get the sun, but this rule is over here, so not sure about your hemisphere. Your skin is looking amazing. 😊

What a clumsy release of the ducks! 😫 The mother duck should have been released first when it was safe to do so, and then the ducklings. What actually happened was a total shambles and distressing for the poor things as they tried to regroup whilst being chased by the mallard. Not thought through by the releasers at all.

Great vlog this week, enjoyed very much! I used to have a recurring dream that my brother left me his flat in Brighton. He's still alive but did once live there. I used to wake really disappointed. LOL.!

What a great vlog, really enjoyed it. Such a shame about Dockrills, we always pop in when we’re in Brighton. Barely any original shops in our small town, just barbers and takeaway food places. Good luck with the flat hunt hunting 😊

When I see your footage of Brighton, I think it looks far more charming than here in vancouver, where we don't have many small, family run businesses to start with.

Morning Suzi! I enjoyed seeing the apartments and lovely as they are I agree they are not right for you at this time of your life. Love the makeup tutorial. What a difference the lipstick made. Top tip from me about lipliner is to go up from not quite the corner of your lips to the Cupid bow and slightly over line. It really does make your lips look more full. Try it. X

Definitely a lift…and wide door ways for devices if you want to stay long term…one bedroom is fine…..the wind is crazy noisy

I love your house.Do not like the apartments. Feels like being in prison .It is massive decision to minimise yet have everything you need to keep independence at reasonable costs so you have Income to look after yourself and you said you want to travel more.You have a lot of friends in that area which is a plus .You have family in Australia so maybe stay longer with them and great you tube. Just hope you make the right decision for what you really want and need in your life .Just do not buy anything that does not feel right and you did say you would find something with Sea views and you love the sea .Think carefully.

If you don’t show the front door or anything that identifies the location of a flat, I would have thought that only filming the interior would be safe for anonymity ❤❤❤

A lift, 'tweet tweets' and nature view were all #1 priorities for my down sizing into senior living. If I were you I wouldn't be wasting my time or the agents with anything less than your likes for living out your wonderful senior years. Love your style and attitude. I don't think I'd want to live in a basement, and if course on the Front you'd be having salt water on your windows. I was once on the North Sea, and the windows always needed washing.

I loved the last apartment,so bright and open, but it was a one bedroom and too closed to the sea which means a lot of wind all the time…..I didn’t like the others at all , you can’t change dark unless your lights are on all the time and a 4th floor walk up is crazy at this point….something will come up Susi eventually………have a good search and keep us posted , love seeing what’s available………….❤ Donna In Toronto

Hi from Annie, you look lovely in the clothes and makeup. It would be hard to find a suitable place at times, perhaps a place that is on the ground floor is best, no worry about stairs or lifts. it is hard to find a place that is not effected by wind making it rather windy most times especially if near the beach.

Typical when a longstanding shop is closing everyone dashes in, I expect it’s the rent. Definitely happening in my town unless you are an estate agent or a coffee shop which my town has 70+😳 outlets to purchase a coffee and it’s only small. Nothing like an afternoon snooze. Gone back into my thermal tops and socks. I’m surprised the manager didn’t say you were to vigorous in your application😂. You should be talking up your house for future purchasers such has glorious sea views, sheltered seaside garden, easily maintained, short walk to seaside walks. You don’t want Grade 11 far to difficult to maintain and more than one bedroom so your mates can stay and defo a lift for suitcase movement but don’t buy near the lift as it’s too loud. Question is Hove better than Brighton to retire to? I lived by the sea for two years, so windy, great for drying you washing. Your skin looks radiant, your treatments are working. Loved the art. At least you managed to get a replacement for your lipstick!💄 my daughter tried to return her eye pencil which had broken before she had even used it and was refused because they didn’t know she hadn’t used it 😮 loved going on your flat hunting trip with you, one day in the very near future I know we will have to look for somewhere less remote and less scenic due to age , and having to flipping drive everywhere. x

Y9u say you keep that tray with your make in it on the window sill don't think that's a good idea sitting in the sun if your lipstick is on it then the sun will soften it

Hi Suzi, We have had "Pollyanna" close on the Fulham Road here in London. It was a great children's clothes shop for school uniforms as much as casual wear for kids of all ages. My mother shopped there for us as children and I bought clothes and shoes for my nieces and nephews there in the 1980's and 90's. It's now a coffee shop. Business rates are way too expensive for small individual shops on the High Street now. Love your vlog. Debbie😁

Pop a scarf over your head and face when putting on clothes. Stops makeup getting on your tops. Love your searches but I’d def need a lift being in a wheelchair. No chance of using stairs 😂

I thought your outfit with the cream jacket looked great. It’s been incredibly windy here on the Isle of Man this year too (also always windy by the sea, but more so this year) Enjoying watching your flat hunting. I use tubing mascara because they always smudge on me recommend double wear Estée Lauder or Clinique lash power

Hi Suzi. Yes it’s so sad about Dockerills. Don’t get a flat with no lift by the way -you will regret it as you get older. Try flats in Palmeira Square ,Hove (I live there) - it’s one block from the sea ,near all shops and restaurants and the buses come every 3 minutes. The gardens are well maintained and it’s shielded a bit from the wind but just a short walk to the sea. Good luck with the flat hunting!

Here we call the ground floor the 1st floor but I am not sure because in the NL they call the second floor the first floor. Yes no lift is a dealbreaker but you need to tell the agent your specifics, I am sure you will find something suitable.

I live further along the coast than you in Eastbourne and can’t believe the summer we are NOT having this year. There is a nice restaurant along the seafront we like but the wind so cold no one is sitting outside.

Try No 7 tubing mascara, I used to end up with panda eyes too and this is the best one I’ve tried. It also comes off with just water x
