---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This video demonstrates what it was done on 'stationery cardboard' can also be done on vinyl material. Summarizing I would say that a premade mold/template plays an important role to perform an upholstery design. A mold give us the 'real measures' and what we have to do is just transfer it to the right material not forgetting to add the required 'selvage' or 'seam allowance'. In case of seats it could be 1 cm or 1/2" of an inch as standard measures.
As you can see in the video I show three well known junctions for lateral panels that surround the main flat arch panel. The most common way of attaching the main panel to the other parts is by using a 'piping' all around the arch because it adds more consistency to our pieces.
Notice I have used thin foams (3 to 4 mm thick) for the lateral panels. If we would decide to use a thicker foam (1 cm, 1/2", 3 cm, etc.) then things turn out different because of the thickness of foam material. The material on top( vinyl, fabric, leather, etc.) would 'contract' (figurative) a few milimeters back, more in central part than ends of the pieces.
I will explain it in a next video.
I hope you find this information useful!

@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 4 года назад
I have realized the use of staples helps to make the sewing process easier. These should be put in the 'points of reference/V notches'. This is the method tailors use before doing the final sewing. Of course, not with staples but with handsewing with very thin thread. As in upholstery the materials are thicker, it is very difficult to baste with thread. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--ANK1IRrkow.html

Very good job, sir, I changed the fabrics of my old seats of my BMW 302i E46 (10/2001, but without leather) with a lether of really authentic quality ... The steering wheel then the bellows of hand brake and speed will be done this WE. I think I also make a "tablecloth" picnic with a waterproof bottom in the middle of the crib foam and a velvet coating and probably a plaid for the back seat with the rest of the velvet ...;) There is nothing better than making leather self-made items for 3 to 4 times less than if you buy them (well, again you do not have to "count" the hours of work because that would hurt your hands. artwork... ;) I'm not at all a PRO in terms of sewing and even less on leather but I took my time (a lot of time but no matter we have 2 cars) and the result is more than super, a PRO n could not have done better ... Well, he would have done it more quickly but time was not a capital emergency ...;) In short thank you for your videos it has served me so much, so much so that my wife asks me to do that of his colleague, why not but the bill that I will make him sting his eyes ...) So as Hankook would say "Very Good Job Sir, Very Good Job Sir" Best Regards,

@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 7 лет назад

Been working on just my personal car seats. Had to come back for a refresher course. I totally forgot about stapling things together. I was using a 100 fabric clamps lol. I just wish I had a walking foot machine to do them better
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 6 лет назад
Hello, Thanks so much for watching the videos! In some of my videos I use a 'fabric clamp' to momentarily hold the piece edges while I staple down. But, I never thought these clamps would be useful to also 'baste' the edges to ease sewing process. Great idea! I think 'small powerful clamps' would be useful to attach the 'reference marks or V notches'. And everytime we would reach these points they would be easily removed.

Regarding the version with cording... I dont see where you attach the cording. I'm doing a piece that is nearly identical to this and I get quite a bit of bulge at the top of the arch where the parts are joined with cord. The bulge occurs in the outside part not the channeling. May I ask which part you attached the cording to prior to assembly?
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 4 года назад
The cording should be attached to outside surrounding piece. This is a related video that shows how the piping is fastened to outside piece: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-83BUdhXFz5A.html

I love your videos but you do a lot of steps that are unnecessary. Like stapling it together before sewing, thats what the alignment notches are for. You are only making it harder on yourself trying to sew it like that. And the biggest problem I saw is you sewed that insert upside down. If you keep the piece with the edge you can pull straight on the bottom and the curved pleated piece on top its a lot easier to sew. Notice the bunching when sewing the corner. Your stuff always comes out beautiful though.

I love your videos . I wanted to know. How do you sharpen your scissors? I have several dull pairs.
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 7 лет назад
It would be better if you remove the 'small bolt' in the center to have the two parts free. I use a 'portable grinder' with a thin cutting disk' to sharpen the scissors. First, with my left hand holding it from the ear part I put the one scissor in an angled position until having the surface to grind flat. Then from the back to the front I slide the disk also in a paralell way. The disk goes angled and it seems I am grinding with its side. I do this two or three times always from the back to the front . To erase some rough from its side I use a thin sandpaper. Let's not forget the scissors should be sharpened different than a knife. Thanks for watching these videos!

What is the white material you put on the back side of the foam? It looks to be a very thin mesh type product but I cant tell what it is. What is its purpose?
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 6 лет назад
The 'white material' on the back is called 'muslin'. It comes in different densities. It is used as a 'reinforcement and backing' for channel figures on top. There are 'fabric backed foams' especially for that purpose. They come ready to be used as backing material much faster.

Where do you do this kind of work? Also I know it varies on location and craftsmen but whats your price range to reupholster standard leather car seats?
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 6 лет назад
I am located in Mexico. Upholstery techniques are almost the same in any part of the world. Prices vary depending on the country. For instance, here in Mexico the price to reupholster a dashboard in leather ranges from 300 to 500 US Dollars. But in USA, same dashboard costs from 1000 to 5000 or more.

Thanks for kind comment and suggestion! Most of the times, to learn upholstery is not necessary to talk, just watch and repeat the actions. For instance, if I were watching a person eating with a fork it would not be necessary to say 'at this moment the person is using his hand and eating with a fork'..the actions I am watching are obvious. Furthermore, to understand the present video which is not really for beginners, it would be necesary to have some basic ideas about car upholstery.

@@Cechaflo My apologies. I thought this video was to show how something is done. Apparently it is not. I understand exactly what is going on because I know how to upholster. If I were to make a video just like this, I would of course explain why you mark the edges of your leather and how, after the seam allowance is taken into account, the pieces come together. Instead this is a look-what-I-can-do video and not a how-to video.
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 5 лет назад
Dear Dennis, I understand your point of view, but I could not say it is a look-what-I-can-do video. It contains a little more than that despite of not really being a complete how-to tutorial. There is a first basic video that shows something more about these flat archs. Perhaps, a missing explanation is here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1dHLGMsQ23s.html

You would have to check and find a similar to your machine. Please, watch these links: www.electricmotorwarehouse.com/pulleys-sheaves/ es.aliexpress.com/store/product/Pulley-Belt-pulley-size-of-diameter-45mm-50-55-60-to-120mm-industrial-sewing-machine-spare/1935129_32817184368.html www.sailrite.com/Pulley-for-Clutch-Motor-3-4-x-1-3-4 www.ebay.ca/itm/Industrial-Sewing-Machine-Motor-Pulley-3-4-Bore-All-Sizes-/401174072872 In case of some little adjustment, a lathe operator can do it right.

Cechaflo so would I use a bigger pulley to slow it down or a smaller pulley to slow it down

It should be the smaller pulley. I have two video tips to slow down and keep control of a clutch motor sewing machine: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jaVDiZGi9js.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5_0YQ_W8iVM.html

@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 6 лет назад

Gracias!
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 7 лет назад
@tonnylerm559
@tonnylerm559 7 лет назад
Gracias!
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 7 лет назад
