Time to master another one of those "universal" stitches called Flat Spiral. As the name implies...being flat...the design sits beautifully and comfortably around either your wrist or your neck.
You can experiment with with different sized and shaped beads, but I have used 8mm pearls with Size 11/0 seedbeds and 4mm Swarovski bacon crystals.

I haven't been beading for long, and when I saw this bracelet I thought it was far too difficult for me. I tried, anyway, and the instructions proved so clear that I created a piece suitable to be a major Christmas gift on my first try!!. It is lovely, in 8mm green glass beads, blue-green 4mm bicones and gold 11 glass seed beads. Thank you for your time and generosity in creating this tutorial.

Oh Christine…what a wonderful comment to read! I always say to my “students” that beading can look terribly complicated and then when you’re shown where to start …It’s actually “easy peasy”!🤣 I wish you many more happy hours conquering beading!! xx

Hello love this, I'm making one now and would love to know how to add thread to this project.
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie Год назад
Hi Theresa… You can either end of your thread with a double half hitch knot between 2 beads and then pass your needle through the next bead, pulling the knot into the bead so that you don’t snip it off. Add in thread the same way…through a bead and tie a double half hitch knot…OR…If you don’t like tying knots weave your tail thread away through your design, changing direction a few times to “confuse the thread path”. You can also add in a new thread the same way…just remember to exit the bead you finished your thread on before continuing with your design…x

@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie Год назад
When you get down to about 10-15cms of thread…weave backwards through your design, changing direction if you can to “confuse the thread path”. Or you can end off with something like a double half hitch knot. You would start a new thread in the same way…adding in a bit further back in your design and then passing through the beads until you exit the bead you ended the previous thread on!xx

Hi Jo! This is stunning, thank you for sharing your skill. I have some aqua colour beads for this and I was wondering what weight pack of seed beads would suffice. Also a quick general query about seed beads, I have seen some lovely bracelets done by a Russian lady who uses size 10 seed beads. Is it possible to use 11/0 without needing to recalculate numbers? I'm fairy new to this. Thanks so much and take care x
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 года назад
Hi Nina - your aqua coloured beads sound amazing! With regards to seed beads in this bracelet - you'd get by with about a third of a tube which is about 7- 8 grams...and possibly not as much as that. For your other query - I'm afraid there is a difference in size between the 11/0's and 10/s (I've used 10/0 Delicas before and they're very much bigger than 11/0 delicas), so I'm afraid you'd have to adjust the pattern - but it wouldn't be by much. If the pattern required you to pick up 5 x 10/0, you might need to pick up 7 x 11/0. The number 6/0, 8/0 ,10/0, 11/0 ,15/0 (6, 8, ,10, 11 and 15) related to the number of beads you can fit in a single line in an inch. I hope that helps...x

@@JoBarclayLoggie That's awesome Jo! It certainly was a great help, I'm afraid I go a bit faint at the thought of numbers but you explained it very well ! Thank you very much! I will do some experimentation :D

@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 года назад
Hi Clara ... Can you explain a bit more? My knowledge of clamshells is that you could use them cover a crimp bead...and when using wireline or wildfire, we don't use crimps we tend to knot instead. x

What size clasp did you use and what size thickness for your thread?
@JoBarclayLoggie

I tend to use 6lb FireLine in almost all of my beading projects....it's my go to thread! ;-) And the clasp is 10mm or 1cm in diameter...x

@JoBarclayLoggie 3 года назад
Hi Heidi... Trying to think of exactly what you mean but if your loops aren't lying flat, perhaps your tension is too tight and you need to loosen things a little. Maybe your big bead in the centre isn't the same as I've used and therefore yip it's slightly bigger you would need to increase the number of seed beads in your loop. Perhaps try adding an extra seed bead either side of the crystal in the loop and see if that makes a difference...x

Hi - In this particular demo I used 8mm pearls and I had 18 of them in my bracelet and I haven't yet worked with doubling over my fire line - a single thread seems to be just fine. Stay well ...x

That depends on how long you want your piece to be. How big is the wrist
@clarahopkins6782

How much thread do you use
@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 4 года назад
I tend to work with a double wingspan of thread (about 3m) and then add more in if necessary. However; if you are still fairly new to beading, I would suggest using about a meter and a half at a time because the longer the length of thread you use, the more chance there is of you getting in a tangle. x

@JoBarclayLoggie
@JoBarclayLoggie 2 года назад
I'm quite sure that it looks better than you think! We are our worst critics! Is there a chance that your work flips over part way through - as this can cause the spiral to look a little awkward?! Otherwise, it can only be down to tension! xx

Every now then I get a comment from someone who says the sound is too low. It would appear that on some devices this is true; however; I don't know what causes it or how to fix it for those few. If I could I would, I'm just thankful that for the majority of people watching my tutorials, the sound isn't an issue. If I look at the individual recordings, the sound is all okay, so I feel a little stumped! x
