In this video I describe my experience when getting a flat tire on my Tesla Model Y Electric Vehicle during a road trip. I discuss and show my interaction with the Tesla Roadside Service capability in the Tesla Mobile App. I also detail my interactions with Tesla during this process. #tesla #ev #electricvehicle #evlearning #teslaservice #teslaroadtrip

To everyone with a car, just get a spare tire! And tools.

Serviceman was spot on, its too large for a patch. I didn't realize they had given you a full size replacement. Thanks for sharing.

takes a long time to get to the point...hard to watch....content is less than 30 seconds. "got flat, Tesla could not help quickly so had to use AAA...hope you have a better experience. Good idea to get spare tire kit than many offer so I don't look so helpless"

We just had a flat on vacation too. Model 3, first road trip. Rear tire sidewall punctured and we pulled over in a full service gas station. Tiny place with 1 mechanic. Think Goober's place on Mayberry. Mechanic says "I don't have a tire and never took a wheel off one of these". "Why isn't there a spare"? Instead of the app, I called the Tesla phone number and talked to people. Out of service area...we can send a tow to take you to the service center. Tire price $399 (18 inch tire). Tow company kept getting other tow jobs and kept delaying us. Tesla would have been closed by the time we got there. Man who ran the gas pumps said I could use his vehicle to take the wheel to a tire store 2 miles away. Mechanic jacked up the car and pulled my wheel. New tire was $215 total but is a non-EV tire. Got us on the road, finished vacation and back home 500 miles! Still have the tire on and running fine. Don't count on Tesla service unless you are in a metro area.

I am the owner of a Tesla Y in Ontario. Received a puncture in rear tire. Called Tesla Roadside Assistance. Spoke with a lovely gentleman in Utah. I was advised that I couldn't utilize Tesla Roadside Assistance because they don't have a carrier in my area. It would cost $550 Canadian if they called another carrier. Fortunately, I have CAA. Please don't assume that Tesla Roadside Assistance is automatically available in your area. Rural areas may be outside their designated scope. Also be aware that plugging a Tesla tire requires a specific plug because of the makeup of the tire.

Good to know. Thanks for that information.

Always carry a spare in your Tesla particularly rural road trips. Got ours safely stored under MY rear floor after watching a few UTube videos on how to modify under floor area for fit. Our 7” wide Modern Spare fits under floor raising floor about 1 1/2” added height in front area, level at hatch door. There are narrower tires that may fit better such as Evannex although a narrower tire may not be as safe to drive at highway speeds over longer distances. Now I just need to exercise more to gain strength to remove wheel nuts, remove and install spare! 😳

I have to look into what is involved here.

I hit a terrible pothole with my 2017 Model S last year. Totaled the tire. Luckily I was at my motel destination and was close to a tire shop. I didn't bother to call Tesla Roadside service since I was already going to buy two new rear tires, since I bought the car used. I called AAA for a tow, they arrived in less than 30 min and dropped me off. I was fortunate. Since then I replaced the two front tires since they eventually needed it. I also bought a donut spare that I carry on very long trips along with the proper tire changing equipment. I never want to be stuck again in a similar situation.

Sounds like carry a spare on a road trip would be good trip insurance. I'm going to look into that.

wonder if you can claim that through your tesla insurance if you have it. of course, you'll have to decide if you want to pay it up front or have insurance take care of it and raise the premium for next couple of years.

How ridiculous. Remember the good old days when you got a flat you just took the spare out of the trunk and fixed it yourself. How is the experience related in this thirteen plus minute video an improvement. Tesla's genius idea is to give you a patch kit and give you roadside assistance only if the hours are convenient for them. I'd hate to really be in an emergency situation where you needed to get the tire changed right away. Teslas are so overrated. This just confirms that all the more.

you can't do a fix on a flat like that because EV's use different kinds of tires. They are rated to handle the weight of the car and are made of a harder rubber with the addition of sound damping material inside. If they tired too fix the tire the could of had a nasty accident. This doesn't just go for Tesla's but all EVs. Even as we make our way to hydrogen cars the same thing will happen.

@@anubis8370he was talking about having a spare tire. You can buy a spare tire for Tesla and it works so you are wrong.

I carry a spare as do all my Tesla owning friends. Rural area and no spare = no go

Seems like carry a spare on a road trip would be a good idea next time.

the prices seem wierd but I am European... here a tire repair (where they just patch the tire with the "sausage") is usually 10$, to replace the tyre is about 15$ + price of tyre (around 100$ for a tyre like that). To replace the rim? Never heard of.

It lucky you were in a city where there was a service center, and where you were planning to spend the night. This is another reason why having a spare tire is essential.

Of course AAA knows how to handle a Tesla. As a matter of fact everybody in the industry knows how to handle a Tesla. Because flat tires are synonymous with Tesla. And are lined up to sell you a $500 tire, as many as you like. :)
