We just make noise and we typically interpret it using the societally agreed definition. The most accurate definition of sandwich is just, sandwich. What features we typically associate with the word depends on where you are in the world and who you’re talking to. So what a sandwich is depends on where you’re from. This argument is funny because there’s no way to conclusively “win” the way you win a logic argument or an argument about what the right answer to a mathematical question is. You either convince them that a hotdog should be called a sandwich or you don’t. If a majority of the people agree then the definition grows to include it. Edit: grammar
