Amazing how he is now, coming from where he came from. Very spritual guy he is so positive and yet humble. Like so many i love his way of playing the bass, he tought me alot when i started playing.
I'm wondering why it seems like Larry didn't care enough to even do his research. Geez, I know you may not be into rock but have respect for the people you interview. You don't get the right to be rude about things.
So humble to say 'I'm trying. I'm trying.. I'm just a student of music'. The willingness to learn and keep learning is one of the many attributes that define a great musician.
If ya ever needed someone to just sit down and listen, not just hear you, Flea seems like that guy. He is uncharacteristically sincere for a mega rock star. He is so appreciative of his blessings in life that after thirty years of fame and fortune he smiles like he just signed his first record deal! His humble nature sucks you in and his joy for life is contagious.
He always just asked a question and then let the person answer. Some of these late night show guys should take a tip from him because they almost upstage their guests.
I love Flea for having a certain view on the world. Always growing. Never assume you know, keep discovering He wants to 'love without judgement'. I don't know Flea personally, but I always get an amazing vibe from him. I think he's really a great guy.
I could listen to this guy all time without getting bored. Sometimes when he speaks I am not focused on what he is talking but on his voice and the way he speaks and feels everything. His voice is so unique and beautiful.
but we need bad things. we NEED them. or else how could we see the light? I'm not arguing dualism, however, interviews like this light up the soul shine and i think that that is what is worth while.
“I’m just a student of music.” Amazing how humble he is after all the success. Flea is a good reminder to always stay grounded no matter how amazing others think you may be. He has obviously let none of the success go to his head which is incredible. He just wants to keep getting better and better.
I've been aware of this guy for nigh-on 30 years but this is the most extensive interview I've seen so far. He's clearly a gentle soul, an interesting character, genuinely engaging and worth listening to. Much like his band mates..
I find it really interesting how Larry manages to stealthily introduce heavy questions in between simple questions that could be answered with a simple Google search, like when he asks "What did Slovak die of?" and then "Who's in the band now?"
Flea as a bass player is so underrated, the guy has incredible timing, and his note choices are well thought out. Very smart guy well versed in music, and is humble...great person.
OMG! Can you imagine signing up for a music class at UCLA and finding out that Flea, one of the greatest bass players ever is in your class? That would be a trip - for the students and the teacher.
No. I really think he sees himself as a music student when he thinks of Parker, Miles, Monk and all those great jazz musician. I'm a bass player and a big fan of him, but I think it's not modesty, but what he truly thinks (and so do I about myself, him and many great musicians).
Such a humble down to earth guy. Always happy to see someone with such talent not succumb to their demons and fade off. Way too many musicians have gone that route.
Flea blew my music mind with the cognitive dissonance between his aggressive punk persona in the 80's, but playing solid technical jazz bass lines and wearing the most creative Pants. Now I see he is a truly beautiful HUMAN BEING! Flea and Brian May are gifts to the compassionate and academic Art and Science of Rock and worthwhile Heroes for our kids to aspire to...for generations. Thank You Flea for existing, RESPECT.
Love the way his eyes light up when he talks about his school & the kids & the way he often pays homage to Jazz music, its influence on him, past legends & the Harlem Renaissance Real genuine cat!
Reading his book currently...ace guy, he's certainly been playing his beat on the strings of life and all the brilliant times he's shared with the world together with his band the Chili Peppers. Much gratitude!
Larry: super power you would like to have? Flea: "they ability to love with out judgement at all times" 22:45 Really? Wow that comment Made me feel so superficial.... lol That really opened my eyes. Thank you flea!
Flea is so.......lovely. Like a really intelligent, nice, talented, multi-faceted, artistic guy. How does he stay so humble whilst being so successful?
I could listen to flea for hours and hours! He is such a humble, funny and intelligent person. I have always a smile on my face when i see him in videos.
