It’s Robins gift. Earth elements are such a great subject matter to use as a metaphor and he’s just on a whole different level. He evokes bottled up emotions and surfaces them with beauty.

Robin Pecknold on the song "A friend of mine had been telling me about her experience helping a family member with addiction. As she was describing that, I was imagining this sailing lesson I had taken where we were learning how to rescue someone who had fallen overboard and you have to circle the boat around the right way and throw the ropes from the right place. Time is just something that’s happening around us, but there’s some kind of core idea that you’re not what’s happening to you. Like wind on a flag.”

Unfortunately there is no "they". The band has quite evidently broken up and Robin has decided to release this solo work under the band name to get out of a Fleet Foxes contract. It's extremely sad I think, none of the other guys are on it. A transitional album to get fans used to a Robin Pecknold solo career. It wasn't the end to Fleet Foxes I anticipated or expect to ever enjoy.

@@peteb1206 According to a rolling stone interview, Robin said the other members are mostly present on touring, so I guess they didn't exactly break up, that's just the way it is, shown clearer by covid's lens

One brother. That is all. Robin solo, with other guys he picked up along the way. I guess you haven't read the album credits or can't hear the complete absence of Fleet Foxes harmonies on the record. It's not a Fleet Foxes work.

Correction. "Guy". One guy, Robin. "Fleet Fox" is how it should have been credited, but that wouldn't have satisfied the record company. How sad that Robin either thinks he is Fleet Foxes, wanted to get out of the FF contract, or allowed the record company to talk him into calling it Fleet Foxes to general more sales (cos only the diehard fans know who Robin Pecknold is). It's tragic actually.
