Then why should they stop playing just because one band member has a clash of schedules? Selfish of that one band member to hold the band to ransom.. Show must go on, at least they got a decent proven singer to take over
@@sharonjohnson4636 the band still has to tour and meet contractual obligations as well as make a living. Maybe because I'm from the states, I'm a little bit more biased towards Tom Petty and Mike Campbell. Or it could be that Fleetwood Mac was a little more mellow and I was more into rock at that point . Always thought they had talent but never got into Fleetwood Mac . But if you've ever seen Mike Campbell play live, you would realize he is a badass guitarist and what's it matter anyway if the band sounds good and you have a good time? Why would it matter if another guitarist is in his place?
Robert Parker. Jeez...Maybe because it is not really Fleetwood Mac? And I'm paying $250 a seat to go see them as a whole new incarnation. Yes, I'm very familiar with TP and the Heartbreakers. I've been to quite a few Tom Petty concerts in my day and have many of his albums. I was a singer in a band and opened my show with the Stevie Nick's version of "I Need To Know." But I've been a Fleetwood Mac fan since the summer of "78 when I was 17 years old and I've gone to every concert of theirs in Detroit area since 1979. I would camp out overnight for front row seats at Joe Louis arena before there was Ticket Master or the internet. I've purchased the Buckingham Nicks album many times on vinyl and wore each copy of it out. So I'm very familiar with both bands. But having Mike Campbell in Fleetwood Mac does not make it Fleetwood Mac even though he is a great guitarist in his own right. It was Linsdey's guitar that would light my heart up and you can't replace that. It was a selfish move on Stevie's part all the way around and it affected the band and the fans too. I DID go to see Fleetwood Mac in Detroit on this tour. It was a very good show, just not the Fleetwood Mac I have known for decades. Did not make me feel the connection that I always had in the past. It is gone now. If Stevie wonders why anyone might smirk behind her during her acceptance speech, she should watch the replay of it on YT. She talked incessantly about herself.. how nervous SHE was, etc. She was unprepared in her speech and got mixed up on what age she and Lindsey were when they joined the band. She should have written it all down ahead of time and not made it about her, but about what a fantastic journey they had shared together as a band over the past 40 years and how grateful they are to the fans to have loved them so much as to have kept them at this point in their careers over the decades. I didn't hear a whole lot of that and she went on and on without much structure to her speech. Unfortunately as a lifelong fan I was wondering if her memory is not that great anymore since she had a hard time recollecting their ages when they joined the group. I think since they are all still alive and since I as a life-long dedicated fan would enjoy seeing Lindsey performing in the group, they should have damn well worked it out instead of indulging in the petty, backstabbing betrayal type of behavior that I saw in their interview on TV. They outright LIED to all of us, and I do not think that is okay on any level. Lost all my respect that day for them.
Even though I'm a New Zealander and a fan of Neil Finn, I'm not sure his voice is the right fit for Fleetwood Mac.... having said that this version is not 'terrible' and Mike Campbell is right up there as a guitarist.... it's a nice version but different without Lindsay
A lot of people complaining about all these cellphone clips are missing 2 key points. 1) A big part of why this tour sounds so rough is not Neil and Mike, it's the 4 remaining original members, who can barely play or sing anymore. 2) The idea this time around was clearly not to try to get people who sound like Lindsey, but rather to get 2 guys who are both quality musicians and easy to get along with. Doing a tour like this in your 70's is a big deal, and if they didn't want to relive all the old struggles, that's their choice.
Without Lindsay Buckingham this song should have been off the setlist. No one can play it or sing it like he can. Sad to hear one of the greatest songs ever covered so badly by FM themselves.
I’ve been really digging into Mikes playing while preparing for a gig (learning tons of Petty stuff), and the guy is super underrated. There’s such complexity in such simplicity with his playing.
at the time of this post right now, it looks like over 19+ accounts were created by Lindsey, his friends, and family to throw cold water over this as much as possible.
I saw Fleetwood Mac live in I think 2012? Anyway it was the whole band except Christy... Now it's the whole band without Lindsey.... I love Mike and I'm both a huge TPATHB fan as well as FM, but it's just errrrgs me that they're never on the same page when it comes time to tour. Hopefully they will before anyone passes like Tom. Then it's... To late. Love and respect to both bands and artists.
@2:04 Neil kicks the water bottle off of the drum riser and it hits Stevie right in the thigh, don't know if that was intentional or a joke, or if she took it as a joke, hope so!
How can you be a fan of fleetwood mac and dismiss someone who wrote and produced most of these songs and wants to be a part of band but wasn't allowed because of Stevie
At the very least it has to be understood that's it completely unfair .Lindsey tried to make two Fleetwood Mac albums on extended play and buckingham mcvie album but stevie refused to participate and lindsey is the jerk and bad guy?
I like Neil Finn but I don't think he is a good replacement for Lindsay Buckingham... sorry, I just think Lindsay is the one and only front man for Fleetwood Mac along Stevie Nicks... just a personal preference. I like Neil as a solo or as part of his group Crowded House, he is talented musician and a good singer and all but he does not fill Lindsay's shoes like other guys like Arnel Pineda for Journey of Kelly Hanson for Foreigner which stepped right in and even better the show as they sing as good and they are better showman than Steve Perry and Lou Gram respectively.
Much respect to Mike Campbell but the energy is way different than Lindsey's. Great guitar players just have different sounds. I'm glad Fleetwood Mac can go on.
Yeah, i agree, this LB's song, and his finger style, makes a wilder more exciting version, typically that song makes me cry a little, about dead family and friends, bc that SONG SO important to my childhood, this sounds slow, the musical word is re-rded but you get banned using correct, musical term for slower, changed world.
The same idiotic arguments are going on over The Eagles new line up, and their aging voices. Glen Frey's son Deacon is on board, and being accepted, but fans are losing their shit over Vince Gill taking the place of Randy Meisner, who quite the band in 1977!
I am a fan of Fleetwood Mac and others of that same generation but I have no ambition to see them, The Stones, The Who, Aerosmith or any other band with members in their mid/late 70's perform now!!
I can’t get over the people standing stiff like statues in the front row when Mike is shredding right in front of them. Fucking rock out and dance boomer!
So, it's official, huh, that she has cancelled her tour due to spikes in covid cases? Smart lady👍long may she in chiffon dance - Dances with Chiffons 🎵
Loved Campbell - when he was with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Loved Flinn - when he was with Crowded House. But, Lindsey Buckingham was the heart and soul of Fleetwood Mac. His unique sound (both on guitar and vocals) made the band. Without him, sorry, they're just not Fleetwood Mac.
Why are they playing Lindsey Buckingham songs? They fired him, they shouldn't be doing his songs. Stevie and Christine have enough material. This so called new iteration of the band should live or die by their OWN merits - and that includes playing their OWN songs not living off the old shit all the time, especially Lindsey Buckingham stuff.
What's with the flying shoe off Finn's foot @ 2.03 lol. It smacks into Ms NIcks :-) Now Lindsay is not there I guess someone else has to treat her bad lol.
This just isn´t right. This song is Lindseys personal words about his break-up with Stevie. To see this karaoke-version of the band doing that song is just...plain wrong.
Stefan Sundberg Get over it. His songs were done by Billy Burnette & Rick Vito when the wife beater stepped out of the TITN tour in 1988. He is a difficult diva incapable of filling seats as well as Nicks. So he was disposed of on this tour. They sound great. Concert goers seem to being giving thumbs up and sales are heading up for future shows. I would have preferred they end their history together as a tour and final cd. But this is their story. So be it. BTW- Lindsey is not guilt free here. One does not get canned for no reason.
Again with the wife beater crap? Stevie herself has admitted in interviews that she was drunk/high in the famous 1987 event when he left the band and jumped on his back to stop him, and he threw her off. If she was a beaten and abused woman, when did she choose to work with him for the next 30 years. She could have gone solo when Christine left. So tired of all this blame thrown at Lindsey and none at Mick or Stevie. And I was a much bigger fan of hers than of any of the other band members, but I loathe what she orchestrated. Buckingham refused to join FM unless they took her too and she repays him like this? It sucks.
Steve Stevens; and what happened when Burnett/Vito replaced Buckingham? It was the start of a both commercially and artistic meltdown which didn’t stop until Buckingham returned in 1997. It’s undeniable that Buckingham was the true architect behind the Fleetwood Mac-sound; McVie and Nicks are good songwriters but without Buckinghams arrangememts they wouldn’t fly...as evident on the ”Behind The Mask”-album.
Matt Davis + I agree with you totally. I never heard the story about the "wife beating" though. Please clear it up because your comment is hard to understand.
Darkness of the Night, "Hypnotized" did sound pretty great, I'm amazed Neil Finn was able to pull off the vocal on that one, in my opinion at times Neil sounds just like Lindsey from the seventies which is cool. Lindseys live vocal in recent years is, well..... a little odd but he's still kicking ass!
They have enough hits by Stevie and Christine. No need to play Lindsey's stuff after what they did to him. Makes me sick and I have loved this band since 1975. I am done with them now.
Anything from the white FM album through Tango IS a Lindsey song -- Stevie would be selling books in Barnes and Noble if Lindsey didn't turn her poems into songs. Christine has acknowledged his ability to transform her songs into hits too -- but this is THE Lindsey song. The subject matter, the guitar riffs, including the counterbalance of the acoustic, the delivery. They can sing Don't Stop, but they should leave this one alone.
Agree totally. And why the hell would they be doing Second Hand News as part of their playlist??? It wasn't even the hit that GYOW was. It's as if they want to rub it in his face. I can't believe how much I loved them and how disgusted I am by what they have done.
A little bit slow? I love MC... But maybe Buckingham better at his own stuff, his frenetic finger style, his song to sing too, hmm i need to see more, but maybe a mistake not bringing him, i know he's a nut and difficult, but his sound is better on this.
God this is bad. souless, passionless stuff. Mike is an amazing guitar player...but his individuality and that of Buckingham means neither can just be put into another band
yep totally agree but in all those cases he was playing in his own style. Right now with FM he is stucl between doing enough of LBs licks to make the songs sound as people know them and inserting his own style too. Im a huge mike fan. Hope it works out
peter green wouldnt fit in with the new Fleetwood mac either so stop getting technical all you experts, go hang out with lindsey on the older videos. if he wasn't such a jerk he would be still with the old gang and mike would still be with the heartbreakers where he was outstanding.
@@mikemichaels9467 yes they are both excellent in their own elements. Lindsey would suck in the Heartbreakers. Why would you say I don't know what I'm talking about? Id like to see what Lindsey can do with running down a dream. Way worse than what Mike does with go your own way
lindseys song ,sad eh?its not him, like the two other guys tho,on there own bands ,but maybe lindsey can come back and make some new music with them too,can you imagine the guitars in that song?,hope they can put there bitter problems away and grow up and just love each other again, come on stevie ,lindsey, dont forget you both were just two once and we loved you then too from a old fan
Tribute bands hire people that sound like the lead vocalist. They need to go out and watch Tom Petty tribute bands and make a selection. No one can "REPLACE" Tom....(ever)....but.....they could still do their thing, then.
LOL.....well, we definitely don't agree. Diversity makes the world go around. And I won't tell others to shut up, since it is rude, but I am pretty sure this is a bad idea. Only time will tell.
A week before his death, Tom said in an interview, if God forbid, one of the band was to pass/ leave, that would be the end of TP and THB. He wouldn't replace anyone; he'd shut it down. He couldn't have known it would be him. The Heartbreakers couldn't go on without Tom. He was one of a kind, irreplaceable - the same way the death of John Bonham was the end of Led Zeppelin. He also was irreplaceable.
I thought it was an excellent show. For sure, not the best iteration of Go Your Own Way and definitely different without LB, but they were much more animated energized and on key than I’ve seen them in years. They played really well together and the set list was broadened out to reach back to their very early days. Definitely worth the cost of admission, in my opinion.
@@Anniem53 I know plenty about playing guitar, and plenty about campbells career, if you think he kicks ass watch this video here on youtube 'Fleetwood Mac Live Phoenix Hold Me' especially the second debacle of a solo at 3.20 then if that is kicking ass then I must be guitar impresario, I know for a fact you could pick any one of my 17 guitars and I could play that better on any one of them than he did. sorry but in less than 2 years he will not be in that band, mark my words, he is either fed up of it already and is just being lethargic or he just isn't up to it, either way its not good.
@@stevewelsh8560 Just listened to that solo - sounded fine. Just because he isn't duplicating the solo that his predecessor did thousands of times doesn't make it bad.
