That transition era… pre-Buckingham/Nicks… was very interesting. Welch brought that chill… I loved Ebony Eyes as well… and his solo classic Sentimental Lady. Fleetwood Mac has been 3 very different bands. Chrissy McVie has an incredible way with backing vocals!
"Mystery to Me" is one of my favorite albums of Fleetwood Mac. The early stuff just doesn't get the attention it deserves. Thanks for going where very few go and really should go.
Yep. This and "Miles Away" really showcase the lead guitar chops of Bob Weston. Yes, Weston! And I am also a fan of Bob Welch, but the lead on these was Weston.
Lifelong FWM fan here for over 50 years. My regret; never saw them perform live. The band has attracted multi-generational fans. There will never be another story like this..... from Peter Green and Danny Kirwan to Bob Welch and then on to the Lyndsey Buckingham and Steve Nicks era with some Christine & John McVie, and then some Mic Fleetwood holding it all down. Always felt Christine was the soul of the band in her quiet demeanor with Mic Fleetwood pulling the strings like a puppeteer in piecing this band together from the 60s and into the 70s.. I never grow tired of listening to this band........ NEVER! Favorite songs: Over My Head sung by the incomparable Christine McVie, Hypnotized sung by bob Welch, Silver Springs sung by Stvie Nicks & then Need Your Love performed by Peter Green. Must-listens: Everywhere, Dreams, Sara, Little Lies, Landslide, You Make Loving Fun, Albatross, Think About Me, and many, many, many more! Great reaction, TY.
Nice to hear some Bob Welch led Fleetwood Mac, they had eras before Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham made then superstars that deserve some attention. From the album Bare Trees, try Homeward Bound with Christine McVie in one her best songs. Also the title track and Sentimental Lady are worth a listen. Lastly, they started doing incredible stuff in the Bluesbreakers in the 1960s in John Mayall's band, try So Many Roads from John, he had Peter Green on lead guitar before he helped found Fleetwood Mac. Great stuff, Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
You are so right! They really became 3 distinct bands as time went on. Changing band members (other than John McVie & Mick Fleetwood) wasn't just different voices, it was different directions.
This is one of those songs you want to listen to in a swanky, dimly-lit lounge with velvet-upholstered seats, dark wood tables and large windows overlooking the city lights down below... tall flute of champagne (or a martini) in hand. Not enough O's in "smooth" for this one.
Love this song. It's so chill. So relaxing. I imagine being on a road trip and your at that long part, in the middle of nowhere, little or no traffic and you're just cruising along. Or, just out on a drive on country roads (my favorite!).
Nope, having done that at least 20 times driving 18 wheelers coast-to-coast, the best way to partake of ths song is sitting on the hood of your car on the bow of an east bound Pudget Sound ferry as the sky turns from purplish-pink to peachy-orange over the Cascade Range in front of your eyes... Though your thought is right up near the top.
This is such a great song. One of the reasons they often sound different is because there were several incarnations of the band over the decades. I do like the Bob Welsh era, but my favorite was the original Peter Green era which you have not touched yet, I don't believe. Some of my favorites are: "Green Manalishi", "Oh Well", Black Magic Woman (studio is best), which is the original later covered by Santana. Peter was a great charismatic vocalist and is considered among the top guitarists. I prefer either of these eras to the Buckingham/Nicks era, personally.
Hey, I just realized you both are wearing headphones!! Everything sounds so much better to us now too. Great song with Bob Welch in the lead. The groove with the drums and bass is undeniable. 🎧🎧🔥✌️
Chod, the reason you hear so many different sounds/stylings from Fleetwood Mac is because there were basically 3 incarnations of the band - the Peter Green era of blues, the Bob Welsh-Danny Kirwan era which Hypnotized is from, and then the Stevie Nicks-Lindsay Buckingham era. I was lucky enough to see all 3 and they were all great, although my favorite was the Peter Green era.
I always get a chill when Bob Welch sings.." and something flies by the window".. Fleetwood Mac's amazing song about the mystical, and references "A Journey to Ixtlan.. The Lessons of Don Juan", by Carlos Castenada, who studied in Mexico with the shaman mystics, and Don Juan..
This song is a fan favourite for most FM fans. Reading the comments is very interesting as it seems everyone has a different favourite track from this FM period. Personally, I like this era of Fleetwood Mac the most because Christine was given more songs and allowed to shine, alongside Bob Welch of course. For the record, my favourite song is probably Albatross because it’s so timeless but I know that it’s from earlier on than this.
@@sgt.blkdog3840 Yes, though the later solo was a top 10 hit for Welch. Though even his solo hit was Mac heavy. Lindsey arranged and produced it and he, Christine and Mick played on it with Lindsey and Christine doing background vocals.
I LOVE this song so so so much. So smooth so cool so mesmerizing. Brings back many memories of past friends lovers and family no longer with us. Just sit back and let this song take you to a dream like state enjoy the ride. Fleetwood Macs most underrated song.
Love Fleetwood Mac - this is from their album Mystery To Me in 1973 and it’s such an underrated album, I think it’s one of their best: So glad you've chosen this.
One of my favorite songs I like to drive to. The drums are very hypnotic. There's no fills. It's kind of a mix of extraterrestrial subject matter with bits of Carlos Castaneda writings.
I am a fan of Fleetwood Mac prior to their explosion into superstardom with Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Other songs I really like are Sands of Time, Heroes are Hard to Find, Come a Little Closer, the latter 2 being Christine McVie songs. Christine McVie wrote some of the huge hits during the popular era to come.
Great song. It's about UFOs but I always interpreted it as meditative levitation. Check out their song "Oh Well" which is also before Buckingham Nicks.
I haven't heard this in years. I had forgotten about all the changes they went through over the years and the different flavors that the different members brought that have came and gone over time.
This is my favorite song from the Bob Welch era. You all still need to do the Peter Green and Danny Kirwan eras. Fleetwood Mac has had like four or five different lineups.
@@vicprovost2561 I mean it was originally Peter Green’s band, but he kind of gave it to them. You’re right though, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood deserve a lot of credit for putting together great lineups.
I grew up with this band but this is an early incarnation of the band- I didn’t hear this song til a friend of mine introduced me to it.. and I was probably 24 or so years old- yet I was 6-7 yrs old when their biggest album Rumors came out. I was a huge fan from the mid-70s thru the 80s, but I didn’t come across this until the mid-90s. At one point I did own this disc. I do love this tune. I believe this singer passed away several years ago. Great tune.
Much of that "different sounds" thing that you've noticed, can be explained by the fact that they are actually 3 different bands over a number of years. This version of the band is my favorite, featuring Danny Kirwan and Bob Welch, along with Mick Fleetwood and John and Christine McVie.
THANK YOU.... Finally someone is reacting to older Fleetwood Mac stuff. This track was written and sung by Bob Welch. I loved the era that he was with Fleetwood Mac. ( 71 to 74) How 'bout that DRUM INTRO. If you liked this try "Sation Man".
I grew up on this version of Fleetwood Mac. As a drummer you've got to love the power of this drummin theme! This is Fleetwood Mac before the mid-70's version with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham that fundamentally changed their sound from solid progressive rock to pop rock. I prefer the earlier real Fleetwood Mac. Check out "Bare Trees", "It's a Mystery to Me", and "Kiln House" and you'll understand what I mean.
Part of the reason their stuff is so diverse is that Fleetwood Mac 67-70 was a Blues Band with Peter Green, 70-75 was a pop rock (this song is from that middle era) jazzy combo with Dan Kirwan and the singer/guitarist here Bob Welch, and a full on commercial pop extravaganza 76-today with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham.
The song is hypnotizing as you would expect from the song's title "Hypnotized". This is why it was hard to describe it, i.e., you were getting hypnotized by just listening to it.
Bob Welch went on to do a solo album called French Kiss... Every single song was a big hit. Very talented dude. You should check out Ebony Eyes of that album... Great reaction. Thank you.
Very cool tune with more complexity than their later works with Lindsay and Stevie. This one I believe is led by on Welch! This tune was done before the big change to a more popular sound.
@@ethanlatty1 Yeah, I got confused. It was guitarist Bob Weston's last album with the band. Welsh stuck around for one more. Funny thing about the "Mystery To Me" album is that it went gold 3 years after it's release thanks to people who started buying the earlier albums because of the popularity of the new line up with Stevie and Lindsey.
Try hearing the live version of I`ve got a mind to give up living when Peter Green was their lead guitarist and singer. Green was considered to be the best blues guitarist to come out of the U.K.
Your getting into the Best of Fleetwood Mac. Bob Welch was a Great lead singer and lead Guitarist. Try some with Peter Green 🍏. He really brought the Bluesy style to the Band. 🪴🌄✌️
There were 2 Fleetwood Mac eras. The Peter Green era, and The Nicks/Buckingham era. Both eras had Mick Fleetwood and John McVie as constants, and co-founders of the Band going back to 1966 or 67. The original Band was a great Blues Band, with singer and guitarist supreme, Peter Green. There is a whole world of a Fleetwood Mac, that a lot of the younger folks have no idea of they're existence, and great music. The mid 70s came, and two Americans (Nicks and Buckingham) were asked to join when Mick Fleetwood saw them in a small Bar or Lounge doing their thing. You really should check out the original Fleetwood Mac Band.
Fleetwood Mac are a British-American rock band, formed in London in 1967. Fleetwood Mac were founded by guitarist Peter Green, drummer Mick Fleetwood and guitarist Jeremy Spencer, before bassist John McVie joined the line-up for their self-titled debut album. Danny Kirwan joined as a third guitarist in 1968. Keyboardist and vocalist Christine Perfect, who contributed as a session musician from the second album, married McVie and joined in 1970.
This was done before they went strictly commercial with nicks and buckenham when they had the great Bob Welch as their lead guitarist and lead singer when in my opinion they were great
That snazzy jazzy guitar, takes me away every time. Played this for my girlfriend and she said, wow, this guy has the most underrated sexy voice, shows you don't need to be on The Voice!
You need to try out the Peter green Fleetwood Fleetwood Mac which is the original lineup the original lineup and play ...Oh well..... It's a banger..... Peter Green is a top 10 guitarist all time There are a number of incarnations of Fleetwood Mac and they're all very good
Love this song (Bob Welch and Bob Weston doing guitar and vocals as well as Christine McVie). You guys should also get into the ORIGINAL Fleetwood Mac, the one I grew up listening to; with Peter Green, Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer and of course Mick Fleetwood on drums and John McVie on bass. They kicked ass! Mainly a blues band but did other original stuff like "Albatross", "Rattlesnake Shake", "Oh Well", "My Heart Beats Like a Hammer", "Although the Sun is Shining" and many others.
You might want to react yo Bob Welch and his amazing songs, EBONY EYES and SENTIMENTAL LADY from his album French Kiss. His guitar playing and singing are the casual, intimate smoke that rises from your head after taking a deep breath and closing your eyes. Just relax and let yourself go. And after this came Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham. Maybe you could visit Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac. OH, WELL and LAST NIGHT come to mind. Enjoy.
There were three versions of Fleetwood Mac. The Peter Green era in the 60's when they were a blues rock band, the post Peter Green era, and then the mid to late '70s Stevie Nicks Fleet Wood Mac. If you ever heard Black Magic Woman by Santana that is a cover of a Peter Green era Mac song. Also, one of their big hits back then was "Oh Well" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0yq-Fw7C26Y.html
There were four Fleetwood Mac's, the first was with Peter Greene, Danny Kirwen and Jeremy Spencer, then with Bob Welch and Christine McVeigh out front and when they were on a hiatus the record company put a band together and toured them without any members of the band. They won their court case and needed a new front man/ guitarist and hooked the Buckingham/Nick's duo.
Early Fleetwood Mac, before the Bob Welch period was off the hook. The great Peter Green was on guitar and wrote some great songs, Black Magic Woman, Oh Well, The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown), Albatross, Rattlesnake Shake are all superb. The Green years were heavy blues influenced and the band rocks it so hard you forget and forgive the Stevie Nicks period as good as it was.
Fleetwood Mac has such a diverse discography that flowed through so many different combinations of musicians. Thanks for pointing out the Jazz in this one Chod!
Insightful review and reactions of Fleetwood Mac (pre-Nicks and Buckingham era)/For contrast, could you review their performance of Stevie Nick's son "Sisters of the Moon," and, if you watch the music video Sisters of the Moon (Hi-Fi) - Fleetwood Mac 1982 -Mirage Tour, you'll be treated to Stevie getting into such a trance she begins singing in tongues (at about 06:35)!😊
When I go on a special date, I break out Stevie's once owned black Maserati convertible and play this CD. Car has less than 20,000 on odometer. Leather, stainless steel, and class. Also 1 of 1 built especially for her.
