I think she's hoping she can keep it together herself. Can you imagine being one of the people on that stage performing that song and making it happen? With Stevie and Lindsey out front creating that emotional tempest for all the world to see? I'm sure it must have been thrilling for everyone.
@ Michael W And I was thinking that i hope CHRISTINE can keep it together that night. She was in the middle of an extreme emotional breakdown of her own and I dont think she performed after that.
She was going through a divorce herself at the same time with another band mate. It hit close to home for her. I’m not sure if her divorce was before or after Stevie and Lindsey’s breakup but she was married to someone else in the band. They both went through it
Staring into his eyes saying "..the sound of my voice will haunt you. you'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you" holyyyy s**tttt
It’s crazy to watch isn’t it? And you know it has to haunt him now! Though he is married and all- Stevie struggled with and for him and as we all do, treated her bad in his immaturity. It takes some longer to love the right way and not take people for granted- to even know what true love is. She did love him- and he loved her back the same- I just think everything got in the way. I feel grateful they put their emotions to paper and music so we could enjoy what their unfortunate heartbreak made- the most raw and magical music I’ve ever heard. Reality made it too difficult to be together but their music tells us, in a perfect world, they definitely should have been
It was going to be on Rumours but Mic Fleetwood didn't think it fit with Rumours, and he had to take Stevie aside and break it to her. She was super angry because this song was written for Lyndsey as a song to remind him that he will always hear her voice on the radio and never really be able to be free of her.
A perfect observation. It's like we pulled up a chair at a table where thet were pouring out their hearts to each other. We don't know their busness but, as observed by many others there's always going to be something between these two.
I'd have to agree, 100%. I believe it's because they're finally clean & sober at this point, thus being able to let their unclouded emotions & performance shine.🤘
Tony Santos I’m 12 yrs old, but I would have loved to have been there. It’s their best live performance and as a musician my self, music is very special to me.
The Dance was probably one of their best ever performances! You're so lucky you got to see this in the flesh.. I'm 28, and get goosebumps listening to The Dance live version of everything.
@@carloo69 Trust me, I feel luckier than ever that I didn't turn down my brother-in-law when he told me he had an extra pass for the taping. I was up to my neck with work but decided to go anyway. Wise decision on my part. I was completely blown away by it.
@@tonysantos1778 I was 19 that year, when the Dance tour was happening, and I passed it up (can't even remember why now)... I've been kicking myself ever since!
That’s the crazy thing about it. Because she is who she is, she knows he won’t be able to escape her. Whether it be in a hotel lobby or on the radio in the car, Stevie will show up. I love it. It’s the perfect f-u to an ex. Your gonna have to hear me on the radio the rest of your life and ha ha
Even to this day, they still say that the other is the love of their life. It's a shame they couldn't make it work. This is a haunting song. The way they were singing to each other is mesmerizing.
+theclassicgamer Not quite right. They each say the Stevie/Lindsay story will never be finished but he is happily married and she went on record saying that Joe Walsh (not Don Henle) was the love of her life. I still believe these two will always have something special between them. I actually feel Lindsay has the most feelings. Stevie has said he blames FM for their break up.
Oh, in interviews even now when talking about his life he mentions the photographer that became his wife, mother of his children as his "soulmate"... I'm sure he wants to mean it, for her sake, and I'm sure it sounds good to her-- but he's not fooling anyone but himself.
My father told me this was one of the greatest love songs ever! He was a 100% right! Thnk u dad! Rip... Sleep easy old man...... And thank you for everything you did for me and you sacrifice for me and my brother's
Does anybody else get misty eyed, and/or chills, when watching this powerful performance. Early in the song Lindsey stealing glances at Stevie while she sang, later in the song Stevie glancing at Lindsey... Then, the undeniable stare each share with one another. So powerful, coming from a place so real.
@@scotthockenberry3085 This was a show. i love this beautiful song. The arrangement was perfect. But this tormented love affair between Stevie and Lindsey? Get over it. The have.
When they start singing the song to each other, the way they can't take their eyes off each other, it's definitely powerful. You can't help but get chills, and you have to wonder what they were both thinking at that moment. Classic performance. Not just musically, but visually.
+ Jason Mucci Throughout the song she was always glancing for a peek for his reaction and never got it until the end when they sorta dueted. As they sang the lyrics they spoke in Body language and all, and break it off abruptly to end the song.
By far the best performance that I've ever witnessed by the Great Fleetwood Mac, the whole show was amazing but this performance stoled the night, I watch this DVD on a regular basis,RIP Christine you are the Songbird 🕊️
"I'll follow you down til' the sound of my voice will haunt you" Goddamn...could anyone have sung that line with more meaning than the iconic voiced Stevie Nicks? Christine's vocals and harmony takes it to another level. Not the same when she is missing. Fleetwood Mac forever!!!

I've seen this performance before, and owned the album since '97. But seeing it now, older and wiser, I can't believe this performance. The tension, pain, even anger, is unreal. This has to be one of the greatest performances of all time. A renewed respect for Fleetwood Mac. As if they needed it.
In this video, the way they look into each other's eyes, between 4:25 & 4:31, you can tell that there's still a love there that's shone through the ages & will never, ever die.
The sheer, overwhelming emotion and power of Stevie's voice on display here is beyond incredible!! The fire in her eyes near the end of the song when she almost glares at Lindsey is almost too heartbreaking to watch. A masterful performance and once in a lifetime performance.
If you don't get goose bumps when Stevie & Lindsey trade verses at the end you are not human & spiritual...what brilliance & beauty they bring....you simply can not top this! Legendary! ;) The Mac 4 ~ Eva!
Lindsey Buckingham, if he can withstand this and Landslide in one show and not crumble into a blubbering mess, has to be the strongest willed man in the world.
The Mac at their best: emotional and raw. They had an uncanny ability to reach the deepest levels of the personal feelings we all share. I don't think they set out to do this, it just happened and they set it to record. Lucky for all of us.
This was always the wife and my song. One time we were separated and she had contacted me and asked for our wedding book back. So I sent it off but on the back page I wrote, I’ll follow you down till the sound of my voice will haunt you. You’ll never get away from the sound of the man that loves you, over and over. She said she read it and cried and we reconciled. She’s the love of my life and this song epitomises the strength of that love. I love you Kell.
Music/poetry has a way of expressing feelings that standard communication can’t. To me, it’s a direction connection to God, which is why it is so powerful. You may feel different, but either way, I’m happy for you!
I could watch this day and night. Seriously, doesn't get any better than this! Stevie and Lindsey's love is still such a powerful and unmistakable bond. This video is proof positive of that! Love me some Fleetwood Mac!
Awesome song! I love this version of Silver Springs. I always end up bawling by the time the song is over. I don't know why. I'm not in a relationship with anyone. Some songs have that affect on me.
and I feel like Stevie's saying to Lindsey that this song is about you and that I won't ever let you forget it. Such raw emotion and honesty. The fact that they go through this emotional venting each night n tour is either cathartic or torture...still a phenomenal prerformace.
From 4:10 Stevie singing 'you'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you' has got to be the most heartbreaking, spine chilling performance I have ever witnessed - find me something to compare it with... ill wait.....
I doubt anyone can get tired of hearing Stevie Nicks sing this song even after having heard it ten times without interruption. The more you hear it, the more you want to hear it. ❤Stevie Nicks❤
Oh, Stevie. Glancing toward Lindsey, repeatedly, searchingly...and then when he deigns so return her eye-lock, the electricity between them is every bit as fierce as ever. Goddamn. How could you not love Stevie?
I guess we all have our Lindsey or Stevie. This song makes me cry every time thinking about what could have been and what was. This is beautiful and haunting all the same.
So raw and powerful. This is their best performance ever. Am I the only one who kinda feels bad for Lindsay's wife? She must be an incredible woman to watch something like this and be able to keep on going. Because this right her is real and raw.
The way Stevie and Lindsey steal looks at one another is so powerful when they did this song. Anybody that knows the history gets it. This rendition shakes me to the core every time I watch it. Stevie nails it!
The most beautiful and raw moment I've ever seen on stage. No pretending that these words are about anything but what burns between them, and always will. There's nobody else on the stage. There's nobody else in the auditorium. It's just them, staring and singing to the bottom of their hearts to each other.
Also wanted to add..looks like stevie and Lindsay are having a few special moments there...anyone else catch it?? And it looks like even christine is catching some of the energy that's bouncing between them and at one point, christine looks back at mick to see of he is noticing it...amazing performance of silver springs
when I first saw this video concert on VH1 I was mesmerized by the power of this song and the obvious feelings between Lindsay and Stevie, it was all still there, the hurt, the past between them. She is really letting him have it!
This is the only acceptable performance of Silver Springs period end of story (except maybe the one where Lindsey had to finish the song bc Stevie was crying...)
When Stevie called it quits, I thought the band would breakup. It only got better with Silver Springs. It got MUCH better when she turned and sang straight at him . It was intense and definitely her way of letting him know he had the greatest love of a woman, and lost it because he couldn’t be faithful. Lindsey knew he had messed up, or his solo on guitar would never have been so soulful and full of sorrow.
@@richo9911 but she dated don after they broke up. In an interview one of them said that both of them slept with others after doing drugs but Lindsey kept going with the affair even when Stevie asked him to stop and this was the last thing sge tolerated from him... but who knows
Love this song . I think the piano is so major . Bless Christine. She was such an important part of the success of this band and I'm sure they all know it. It's just that she wound up sharing the stage with a woman who was probably the most famous female front singer in a generation. I think this iteration of FM; the two couples and Mick was the band at it's best.
Haunting Vocals and the eye contact between Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, given their past romance is very telling of a Love that has probably never gone away completely. Fleetwood Mac at their best here.
Kevin Stailey agreed. this song has deep meaning that none of us will probably ever know. these 2 had a connection between them that was like fire. love love love this song.
Twenty years after Rumours, the love, hate, tension, and genius of Fleetwood Mac came together for this gem. Now, almost twenty years after The Dance, it is still just as powerful. The interaction between Stevie and Lindsey is just legendary, and if it weren't for that love, hate and tension, Fleetwood Mac would not be the force that it is. Kudos to such a great band!
One of their best live performances! Lindsey’s solo is chef’s kiss! Then Stevie staring in his eyes as she sings the song she wrote to him about him! Bravo! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I just watched this three times. The hair on my neck stood up when Stevie starts into her deep sexy screaming Never Get Away - Never Get Away! Her voice is unmistakable, his guitar sound is so unique. Bands like this come along once in a lifetime. I saw them twice and was blessed to remember Lindsey crying when he sang I'm So Afraid with his beautiful white Gibson Les Paul and a flowing top that made him look like the rock god that he is!
You could be my silver springs Blue green colors flashin' I would be your only dream Your shining autumn, ocean crashing And did you say she was pretty And did you say that she loves you Baby, I don't wanna know I'll begin not to love you Turn around, see me runnin' I'll say I loved you years ago Tell myself you never loved me, no And did you say she was pretty And did you say that she loves you Baby, I don't wanna know Oh, no And can you tell me was it worth it Really, I don't wanna know Time casts a spell on you, but you won't forget me I know I could have loved you, but you would not let me Instrument solo Time casts a spell on you, but you won't forget me I know I could have loved you, but you would not let me I'll follow you down til' the sound of my voice will haunt you You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you I'll follow you down til' the sound of my voice will haunt you Stevie oversings: Was I just a fool? You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you Stevie oversings: Was I just a fool? I'll follow you down til' the sound of my voice will haunt you Stevie oversings: Give me just a chance You'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you You could be my silver springs My blue green colors flashin'
The intensity of this performance, especially at the end, is due largely to the fact that Lindsay and Mick blocked this song from going on "Rumours." Instead, it was only the "B" side to the 45 of "Go Your Own Way," Lindsay's version of the breakup, which went on the album. Lindsay also blocked Stevie from performing the song on her solo albums. So here she's performing it for the first time in 20 years. She and Lindsay hadn't been on stage together in about 10 years (since Lindsay left the first time in 1987). And her love/hate feelings for Lindsay are as strong as ever. To this day, they still are, with Lindsay getting fired from the band again in 2019 (reportedly at Stevie's request). In one way, they're soul mates, but in another they're cell mates. They've been intimately entwined since 1973, but that intimacy has a dark side, which is why they have not been romantically involved since 1977 and while they do their best work together, they cannot do it for an extended length of time without driving each other to madness.
Absolutely right. They did block her from using it solo and from it going on Rumours. But here she is finally getting to sing it at Lindsey. I believe 100% the emotions they are showing during this song.
So many comment on Stevie and Lindsey and their stirring performances, and well-deserved. But, this is a great example of Mick's virtuoso drumming. Listen carefully. He is one of the all-time best!
They were very focussed on each other. I love to watch these two interact while singing, you can see their intimate connection, and you can see they are communicating with each other through the music. Writing and then singing these songs are definitely healing and therapeutic for Stevie. Lindsey seems supportive even if he did totally crush her heart.
She dumped him. I suppose he really must have pissed her off for her to write that song to him. He was and still is brokenhearted. He is madly in love with Nicks and she is stabbing him straight through his heart with her eyes, voice and emotions on stage. Wow, these two are a force of nature.
I'll never forget being there that night. An innocent high school student who's life would be forever altered by the magical forces of live music....to this day, the best live performance I've ever seen.
Christine plays a beautiful piano part in this song. Knowing that Stevie doesn't write music, I've always wonder if Christine wrote the piano parts for this song.
Living this nightmare since 1993. Been listening to this hauntingly hypnotic, gut wrenching, soul crushing truth for 23 consecutive hours. Best day of my life.
The ecstasy on Mick Fleetwoods face tells the story of how amazing this song is. Add to that when Stevie and Lindsay sing to each other at the end. My god, you really have it all in one song.
This performance is one of my all time favourite live performances. The chemistry between them is undeniable. The verses at the end are sang from the heart into the other's soul. ♥
I've heard this song in different eras. I remember playing it when it was on the B side of Go your own way. Back then the song didn't really catch my attention, like it did when it was rereleased on The Dance. I have always been an avid Fleetwood Mac fan. I used to say it was difficult to say which song was my favorite, until I heard Stevie sing this song in 1997. Since then, it has been my absolute favorite F.W.Mac song, particularly this version. I can play it over and over 25 times or more and never get sick of it.
Pure perfection in all aspects!! Kids this is what song writing from the heart and soul is! If you don't get chills from "you'll never get away from the sound of the woman that loves you" you haven't been listening with your heart!
Utterly otherworldly is how I describe the effect this particular song has on me. It comes from a place of purity, passion and the power that music has on us. The universal language of love and hearts being their most vulnerable. Silver Springs gets under my skin, makes itself completely at home and fills in the cracks, just for a few moments anyway 💜💜
I agree. When I watch this I can tell they are both really hurting. Nicks is stabbing him through the heart with this song and he has to stand there and take it. I would not be able to handle that.
I didn’t know this wasn’t the original version of the song until a few years ago. Everything about this one is perfect. Stevie’s voice is so pure and honest in the first two verses. Christine’s harmonies send chills down your spine. Then Lindsey’s solo just feels like he’s saying everything without saying anything at all. The weight this song carries is just... wow.
