Oh, finally! There are many super interesting songs by Fleshgod, this was one of the less symphonic of the lot. They have a female opera vocalist too, very talented! Try Epilogue by them next!
Francesco Paoli is the drummer on this song, he's one of the founding members of the band. Originally he was the lead guitarist, but they needed a drummer so he learned drums, at the point of recording this album he's been playing drums for about 2-3 years. He's considered one of the best drummers in extreme metal. Sadly, Francesco is back on guitar and has taken over lead vocals as well since the departure of their lead singer/lead guitarist. Francesco Ferrini does the orchestration for the band and does piano, and yes for live shows they have a big piano on stage that he plays, its awesome. Fleshgod Apocalypse is one helluva unique band, i've seen them lives several times. Some song recommendations from them "The Forsaking" "Minotaur" "Pathfinder" "The Fool" and "Thru Our Scars"
@@nonono7973 Never really liked Francesco as a drummer. I know it's not his main thing, and that was pretty obvious in their live performances. Extremely sloppy playing. Eugene isn't quite up to Francesco's top speed just yet but his playing is much cleaner.
When Francesco announced that he'll leave the drum throne I first was like "what the fuck? He can't!" and then "How will they replace them? I mean there's only one drummer in the world who could fill in, that hard working ukranian guy with the violation drum cover, but they never will...." And they did. And I was like "YES!". Eugene is the perfect match for this job and fleshgod in their current lineup are just insanely awesome. Could'nt be better.
So my first exposure to this band was live; they were supporting Wintersun on tour. It was a small ass bar venue, and for the band setup, they had to haul an upright piano through the side door and up on to the stage (luckily just a section of floor a few inches higher than the rest) and a few of us were asked to assist with the piano carry...then they melted our faces with this song as the opener
I love little bar venues like that The performance is so much more personal. I couldn't imagine The feeling of learning about these guys from having them near eye level almost face-to-face blasting into my soul like that, I bet it was life-changing.
Yes! Absolute sucker for Fleshgod Apocalypse. Little tidbit of info: the drummer? Used to be one of the guitarists and at the time of that album, had only been playing for TWO. YEARS. As a suggestion along these lines, you should check out the band Kamelot, specifically their track "Ghost Opera" or "Sacrimony"!
There are several things that need mentioning 1) This is a Mozart Cover song (his Symphony No 40 in G minor) 2) There is a long symphonic introduction to this track in the previous song ending. 3) They are a great band on Nuclear Blast Records (the best and most popular Metal label worldwide). 4) They are from Italy 5) There is a music video for this track 6) The high pitch vocals are a homage to Vortex from Dimmu Borgir (that did the same thing in the 2000s). Fleshgod Apocalypse later replaced it with a female Soprano singer. 7) Their later albums Veleno and King have the original songs and also the same ones as instrumentals and with a plain symphony (no Metal added). 8) Their first album is not symphonic at all. This track is from their second album. 9) This band really loves Classical music. 10 They have not put out a new album in about 4 years.
In their later albums they actually release them as doubles where each song has a classic instrument only version. It's really satisfying to hear them on their own.
You should do Emperor - With Strength I Burn. IMO they created the symphonic metal genre. They are symphonic black metal. I feel Fleshgod gets there inspiration from Emperor. You already reacted to the lead singer / guitarist from Emperor in his solo band called Ihsahn - The Pain is Still Mine and he is the brother in law to the singer from Leprous.
Good job Geebz, keep going and thanks for the variation in different metal genres. It`s nice to know that you have a good compensation for this heavy stuff. I never heard of them and already feel bad that I didn`t. Now I have new stuff to listen to, again thanks to you! Thumbs up
Fleshgod Apocalypse is pretty epic live, too. I caught them along with Arsis, and Starkill, with headliners Wintersun some years back. Have you checked out any Shade Empire yet? they're more along the lines of symphonic black metal rather than symphonic technical death metal... but worth a listen too. Maybe have a listen to Anti-Life Saviour.
Hehe, I'm going to see these guys live on Sunday, also Septic Flesh next Wednesday. I'd recommend Hate - Exiles of Pantheon, I rarely see this band in reactions, although they have been in the metal scene for over 3 decades and released many solid albums.
Fleshgod Apocalypse at the time had Francesco Paoli on drums and vocals. At the moment he is the guitarist/vocalist, but he had a very nasty accident a while ago which meant he had to relearn how to play guitar. The clean vocals on this album are done by the bassist
Thanks for doing fleshgod apocalypse. I think you should do their song "the fool" next. It has an awesome harpsichord intro I think you would really like.
I wish you had found the music video version of this song, cause it has an amazing opening that you would only hear on the album version if you had listened to the ending of The Deceit leading into The Violation.
Is it weird that during the intro … I was waiting for the manic house decorations to kick on … they didn’t come !!! Must be spoiled by the season or something!! Also after your pause the bold rhythm section pattern had a full orchestra London Symphony cd skipping with Animal of the muppets vibe to it in my head … good theater of the mind exercise !!!
This has been very much anticipated, finally, thank you! Fleshgod is an amazing band, i'm certain there have been plenty of people expanding on the band, i'll just say that they have a multitude of amazing tracks to listen to, for a variety of reasons: The oppression, from agony, amazingly time-shifty fills The egoism, from agony, an amazing track throughout The first 3 songs from their mafia ep are all amazing The betrayal, from agony, a drumming nightmare, an awesome track And the vulture beholds, from king, amazingly epic orchestration Towards the sun, from labyrinth, amazing orchestration, again Epilogue, from labyrinth, showcases veronica more prominently In honour of reason, from oracles, heavy as all hell Pathfinder, from labyrinth, a great composition throughout. Although to be honest the entire labyrinth album should be listened to from start to finish In all honesty i could recommend everything from them, but as a more unusual suggestion i would also say that you should check out their title songs for each album; oracles, mafia, agony, labyrinth, king and veleno. Each of them is a classical piano composition meant to embody the atmosphere and theme of each album.
I really love how Fleshgod does the composition With Symphonic Metal I always feel like the orchestra and the metal band take away each others space but here it works great together
Allegaeon - The Dopamine Void (pt.1 + pt.2) as far as more extreme songs go, this is one of my favourites, it mixes it up a bit and is more palatable than most.
I remember when I finally got to see them live, just before the pandemic hit, this was teh opener. Set a great tone for the rest of the gig I think you would appreciate öOoOoOoOoOo (pronounced Caterpillar) and their album Samen, or Arcturus, especially la Masquerade Infernale
If you want a bit of a newer Fleshgod song I'd recommend "The Fool" (2016, studio version). If you want one of their most recent songs Sugar would be the one. I got to see them live this summer, the sound was completely scuffed (festival's fault) but I remember when the groovy/heavy verse of healing through war kicked in... magic.
Someone may correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think Fleshgod has ever recorded with live strings/orchestra. Hopefully they can make that happen someday. It’s also worth checking out photos of their stage outfits and consider how they can shred the way they do.
Fleshgod Apocalypse is incredible. This song is mostly recommended for shock value (the machine guns aka the drums), it's not really one of their best songs in my humble opinion. I think you would appreciate the following songs more: "Epilogue", "Monnalisa", "No", or "Sugar". On the latter two, the drummer has actually taken over the vocals and rythm guitar.
If you want something slower, try Cold as Perfection by Fleshgod Apocolypse. Their operatic singer comes in towards the end and it gives me goosebumps every time. The whole King album is fantastic.
They often have ORCHESTRAL ONLY versions of the same songs. It'd be cool to get your thoughts on two of their tracks that have vox and drums and then the orchestral version.
The King album is actually significantly better in my opinion. In Aeternum is the track that turned me on to them, a band I otherwise probably wouldn't have liked.
I love the brutality of this song but those guys made the album like a full play so if you wanna enjoy the intensity of the intro at full I recomend you to listen the ending of "the deceit" (previous song) or the whole album xD
oooh you're going for one of my all time favourite brain exploders xD I love this song so much. But i would never expect a sane person to take the time to really dig into it xD Excited to hear your input 😀
on second thought, that might not be the best song to do, since the weirdness is more in the vocals and atmosphere, not really the musical composition. instread try: UNEXPECT- chromatic chimera EPHEL DUATH- the embossed (off of rephormula) EMPEROR- curse you all men!
This song was my introduction to them, and personally the stuff where Francesco Paoli is playing drums, (he can play anything), but the way the orchestra follows his drums, just awesome. An example of extreme stamina is the song kingborn, Francesco used to split the song up. There's a perfect cover of the song by David diepold playing all the way through.
Love Fleshgod Apocalypse, one of the heavier bands ever but the keyboard player plays an actual piano throughout their entire live shows. I'd recommend you check out something from their newest album Veleno because i personally think it's the best implementation of classical music in metal, but they also have some ballads that are must-watch like Epilogue Actually, a slow-burn with their last 4 albums would be really dope.
Seeing FGA live with Septicflesh at a small venue still best life experience. Watching how fast his hand was moving playing guitar was mind blowing. Thanks for sharing!
Saw Fleshgod Apocalypse live in a bar of all places, headlining for Carach Angren and Abigail Williams, right around the time of their King album release. Actually went to see Carach Angren, which is a band you should check out (preferably 2008-2012 releases), who put on the best performance show in my opinion but dang did FA fill that venue with sound. King isn’t their best album in my opinion, but that didn’t even cross my mind at the time. Great stuff.
I love how these more extreme metal bands don't give you breathers along the way. They are a bit mercyless and feed you with the note chaos until the end. Some less heavier bands could also take a hint from that. Just keep feeding until the end.
Oh man, you needed to add the intro track that comes before this song on the album. It's about a 45sec intro with strings. I think it's called The Deciet. The strings intro completes the song.
Good stuff! A wee bit sad that you didn't get the full song (with the intro). One of my favorite aspects of the song is that the drums, cymbals to be specific, follow the strings - and vocals - closely.
I wonder if you'd consider some japanese death metal? I found this band Imperial Dead Circus Decadence a while back and I wonder what you'd think of them. Here's one of their normal length songs, called Shinbatsu if you're interested. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FV9nkEHmLak.html I find I barely hear anyone talk about the japanese metal scene but I think japan is probably the most under rated country for metal at the moment, probably due to no english lyrics. But you don't listen to lyrics you listen to vocals as an instrument so I thought you might appreciate them
