This was great! Just finished plumbing the PVC for my solar pool heater. I messed up on one of the joints that just so happened to require a very expensive proprietary connector. This fixed it and made it so that I didn't have to buy another connector for $50!

Replaced new toilet drain, 3' PVC, was leaking at slip joint, both ends, used this method it works great. Everything clean and dry. Used wet towels in plastic grocery bags to make seal, stuck shop vac thru one end, both ends tightly seal. Turn on shop vac , Poured on solvent as directed in video, waited a minute, then poured on cement, Ran shop vac about 30 second each time. Thank you for sharing, very much appreciate your effort and time. Consider yourself a home improvement DIY hero.

Thanks for the video. I had a small crack in a fitting (sprinklers). Cut a bigger piece of pipe. Slit it. Heated it so it would flex and put it over break after cleaning and applying glue. Quickly put a clamp over it. Left it for the cure time and it held. Saved me having to dig out and change fitting.

You are a genius! This video saved me a whole redo, and about $100. I had a leak installing a chlorinator on my pool. I was able to take apart the jandy valve downstream and hooked the shop vac. I was able to seal the leak easy! Gave it an hour to cure and now the leak is gone! Pay attention to the detail about putting the glue very quickly after the primer. If you let the primer dry it might not work. Glad I watched the video 2 or 3 times while doing sealing the leak. Thanks a million!!

Recently looked for a way to fix a leak at a PVC junction on my roof for pool solar. I allowed system to drain, then -- when dry, and using your basic idea -- I applied primer to the joint, then blew it down into the joint using a soda straw -- repeated several times allowing it to dry. Then I applied a last primer coat, blew it into joint, followed by glue which I also blew into the joint using the straw. So far, it's worked perfectly. Thanks for the tip and the idea!

Thank you! You saved me a tremendous amount of time. I just bought a house and discovered the garden tub drain had a leak at a coupler right at the foundation (concrete). The previous owners did not disclose the problem, but it was obvious that they knew about it, since there was silicone sealant on the pipe. I cleaned off the silicone with a razor knife and sand paper, and then did exactly as you said. It fixed the leak. It was quick and simple. I will share this tip with all my friends. It is an amazing time saver. Thanks again

Thank you very much!!!! Fixed my 25-year-old Apollo Spa hot tub leak near the pump outlet. Drained the tub, masked off the jets. With the shop vac running, I was able to see the primer being drawn into the joint. Then applied the PVC glue. I did purchase new products, as the primer and glue I had were 3-4 years old (we used to have a swimming pool - since removed it). No more leaks. (I prefer the older hot tubs - the new ones have too many jets).

Although I was in the irrigation business for 30 years, I never encountered a leak problem that I could not repair with a conventional repair, until a week ago. I had a drip of about a quart per day on the upstream side of my hot tub pump. As you are aware, the pvc fittings were assembled tight together and a conventional repair was out of the question. I explored a variety of repair methods, but I thought I would start with your idea of using pvc primer inasmuch as my drip was on the suction side of the pump. And the other methods using spray materiaIs or trowel on expoxy would likely prevent me from using your method, had they failed. Additionally your method was invisible. I am ecstatic to report that your advice worked like a hot damn!

My hot tub has been leaking for several weeks. Oh what to do? I found 2 leaks at two ports on one of the manifolds. The manifold has a 2 inch inlet and six 1/2 inch outlets. Each outlet has a connecting flex hose that distributes water to a jet. Without going into too much detail about how the spa is plumbed, the method for repair in the video made the most sense. I wanted to replace the manifold, but you can't replace just one; I would have to replace 3 manifolds and re-plumb most of the jets on the spa. Flexpvc's method was a quick easy fix and if it didn't work then I guess I would replace the 3 manifolds. I followed his instructions carefully. The result? 24 hours and no leaks. So far, so good. Thank you Flex! I read and gave great attention to MPetrozzaIsGod's comments. He knows his business, and I tend to agree with him. If this were a pressure line in my house, I don't think I would have used this method. However this is a non-pressurized line and only delivers water to a jet, so the pressure never builds up. And, the spa is outside, so if it does leak again, no damage is done. Thank you, MPetrozzaIsGod for your input. And thank you again FlexPVC. You saved me a lot of time and headache and money. If the spa develops another leak, you'll be hearing from me. Then I will need some parts. Jonas

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. At the beginning of the week I knew we had a Picket Fence Demolition Project as we demolished our Utility Picket Fence Section (Single-entry Gate to Double-wide Entry Gate) we now have multiple Irrigation Repair Projects: Priority #1 for the Index 3 Pipe I need to close the 12-in. to 14-in. air-gap, which this section had to be cut-away due to removing a picket fence post concrete anchor, for a 1 1/4-inch diameter PVC irrigation pipe (schedule 40). Priority #2 for the Index 1 Pipe I cut approximately 18 inches of 1 1/4-inch irrigation pipe from the "whirly-bird type sprinkler - I now plan to use a regular couple with PVC Primer/Cement. My first attempt I tried a “PVC Pressure Couple” and the first test failed miserably; consequently Priority #3 for the Index 2 PVC irrigation pipe I removed the Rainbird 5000 broken riser stem and installed a new riser stem: I corrected the swath to rotate 180°, but now I need to fine tune and shorten the dispersal distance otherwise swap this sprinkler with the Toro sprinkler [Index 1, Zone 4 in far corner]

Great tips. And, a great explanation of how the solvent and glue works. I've seen a lot of people allowing that solvent to actually dry on their fittings & pipe prior to applying the glue and pressing the connection together, which makes for really weak connections that eventually leak.
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 9 лет назад
Raven Heart Yes, for sure. We had a guy with 120 acres of blueberries call us asking why he kept having multiple leaks on a weekly basis... And that's what we found he was doing. We also had another large customer who was putting the primer and glue on, but only on the pipe, not the fitting. :-) That's not going to work either.

This worked great for me. I had a tiny leak in my RV dump tub at the Sanitary Y connection. I was able to close off the dump valves and put suction on that small section. I followed you to the T and it worked! Thank you very much. Now if I can just figure out why my fernco fitting leaks.
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 5 лет назад
Thanks for the feedback. So happy to help. As for the Fernco's the reason they might be leaking is wrong size. Usually too big. Fernco's are meant to stretch, not compress. Measure the OD of what you are connecting to and give us a call M-F 10am to 4pm PST, at 888 782 3539 and we'll find the right one for you. Thanks!

Great thinking!!! Just replaced plumbing on the return side of my pool and plumbed in a salt chlorinator. I have a tiny drip. I don't think a shop vac will work because the pool returns are under water but I may be able to draw a vacuum by draining the filter.

Yes, you'd have to drain the pool to use the vacuum. But if the drip stops when the pump is running you can still use this technique.

Thank you. Your advice saved me lots of trouble. In my case it was the main water shut off to my house (cpvc FL). We had to balance all the air and water in the system and find the right pipe for the vacuum. We had to make a valve in the vacuum hose to prevent over heating yet allow enough suction. It was no easy task but it did work!

Same here, dripping AC Drain line, because the last guy was stingy with glue or somehow missed a spot on one of the several fittings used in a small space... I taped a dust buster to the end of drain line, luckily there was a cutoff valve where I need it... Applied glue at the spot where it was missing... Since this is just a gravity drain line, no pressure, I have good hopes I'm done with this for years... If under pressure, I'd be more concerned about the permanence of the repair, but from some of the testimony here - I'd do it again, even with a pressurized line, but I'd hedge my bets by using a good primer also. (For low pressure lines, there are several PVC glues available that do not require separate primer.)

Man, your advice here was a lifesaver! I installed a full house worth of dwv. After visiting 3 stores I couldn't find the heavy cement in the large container that is typically used for 3" and larger fittings. I made the impatient mistake of using the small containers of the medium cement with the small applicators. DUMBA$$ and impatient move...no doubt. So I start my fill test and have 6...SIX!...pinhole leaks! Just shoot me. So I find this video and think I've got to at least try this. I won't go into the details as you have done a great job with that. Just let me say that your method sealed all the leaks. I tested with a 30 foot head of water to the top of the vent of a 2-1/2 story house. Passed the inspector's upstairs bathtub fill with nary a drop. Thank you, sir. You probably saved me a complete do-over. Utmost appreciation for your free guidance!

Damn man....I thought I might be the only one using that technique! For a pool with a leak in a pressure side pipe a shop vac isn't needed in some cases. If the pump can prime or mostly prime run it for a minute or so. Turn it off and then the water flowing backwards through the pipe a will create enough of a vacuum to pull in primer and glue.

Really nice of you to share that. Others in your love of work are likely not thrilled. Have any tricks for a valve leak. ( Ball valve, pvc) I'm a girl who just bought a house that has lots of fun projects! I learn as I go, and it kinda looks like the guy before me did the same. Any time I look things up what I'm looking at is a version of it. Never quite like the "supposed to be" image. My house water intake (well) doesn't seem to have a shut off except for the whole house water filter. It works for my purposes so far, but it's now leaking. I have changed many of these in the yard for my homemade sprinklers., but clearly this could be a much bigger problem Any quick fixes for my issue instead of havoc to cut it out and install new valve? Should i add a shut off somewhere else? If anybody is bored and cares to help a girl out,I really enjoy this stuff and appreciate advice.
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC Год назад
Maybe. It depends on where it's leaking. If it's one of the joints, where the pipe glues into the socket, yes, the same techniq should work. If it's out of the shaft, then it's a worn our seal/oring in the inside. If it's a MIP ball valve (Molded In Place) there are only band-aid fixes. Nothing permanent. If it's one of the true-union ball valves it's possible to rebuild them. You can send us an email with pictures here: flexpvc.com/Contact.shtml that's really the best way for us to help. Just send a picture of the valve. Thanks

Should i mechanically abrade both surfaces or clean them w/ a chemical or what? In a hard place to work. Thanks again.
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 8 лет назад
+Alex Tworkowski No need to mechanically abrade the surfaces because you can't get to where the leak actually is. The method described here may work for you. The main thing is to use primer, otherwise glue only will make a "cold joint" and likely not work. LMK if it works for you. :-)

A little bit of primer will make it thru, but not the glue. I did this one time an a spa and the shop vac did pull a smattering of primer and it make some marks (just tiny dots) on the inside of a jet nozzle (the eyeball). The customer said they did not care, they were so happy that the leak was fixed for my standard service charge they said don't worry about it. But I did get a replacement eyeball and mailed it to the customer. (they are easy to replace.)

Help!!! So I have an issue under tub no access no basement - I removed tub drain (20 yrs had corrosion) and during the removal the threaded pvc under tub slightly cracked now I have to screw in a new tub drain...how can I fix this issue? I mean if I cement tub drain and last another 20 yrs I'm ok with that as long as I don't get a leak under tub and damage the foundation....I guess by the a remodel won't hurt but I want to avoid mold issues as well. Any feedback will be great. And subscribed!!! Great informative video.

Tub drains are not sealed with glue/primer. The top of the drain piece used 'plumbers putty" and the shoe uses thread compound. Plumbers putty is like playdoe or clay. You roll into a strip (log) whatever about 7" long and wrap it around the drain. Then put the thread compound on the threads and screw into the shoe (the bottom piece under the tub.) It's a two person job. If you need more help, please contact us thru our website flexpvc.com/Contact.shtml

Thanks for this great video. We have a tiny little leak and this video will be the first thing that I try. I do have a question though. If water is leaking out then does not imply that the primer will not be drawn into the leak?
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 7 лет назад
No, that's why you us the vacuum. If you are working on the suction side the suction of the pump will draw the primer and glue into the crack and setup. Thanks. :-)

I understand everything in this great video.. Yet after doing the primer on a evacuated seam. How long do I wait and when or if I use the glue? (Original screwed fitting w/ no sealer) GREAT VIDEO!!!
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 7 лет назад
You don't wait for the glue. You hit it with primer and then just the time it takes to switch hands to get the glue in place you do it. :-)
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 7 лет назад
You immediately hit it with the glue right after the primer. Just seconds.

Very informative video. Can I use this technique on my swimming pool pump? I have a small leak in my PVC network that goes to my pool pump. Thank you.
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 9 лет назад
Thomas Alva Edison It depends on exactly where the leak is. If it's on the pump, it could, but it would depend on where it is on the pump. Use our website flexpvc.com to send me a picture and I'll let you know what I think. Thanks

It's worth a try. You only have a little time and glue/primer to invest. Why not give it a try?

question.use a wet or dry shop vac take hose cover the pressure jet or area where the leak creates a vacuum. Put a tee in the vacuum line above water with the ability to close off all air and let in bits of air so vacuum cleaner not burns out, apply primer and then glue. Our situation is a dripping by a light. question choose glue for plastic. glue works on some plastics.

Hi there,Thank you for the videos. fixed my made up pool just like you said and it worked great. just found a crack in my filter canister just at the fitting with a pipe.. any advice how to fix that without buying a complete new one. thank you again!
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 8 лет назад
+Swokpmund I've tried to glue those canisters and had no luck. Due to the way they seal with the threaded ring on the top and the O-ring putting pressure out radially, it's been impossible to fix those Sorry I could not help with that situation..
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 7 лет назад
Pool filter canisters can be made from many different products. If it's PVC or ABS, then the above system will work, you just have to evacuate the housing. BUT if it's some other type of plastic.... it's tough. I've never had muck with patching non-pvc and non-abs products. Sorry.

I just remembered, we have a new glue. It's really supposed to adhere to a lot of different plastics. I have not tried it yet, but see: flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?p=Clear-Acrylic-Cement-Glue&p_id=SciGrip16A&xm=on&ppinc=detail hth.

Well I had a crack but I will try to remember this Great Trick next leak I have.. I beat you are the one to ask, How do I reseal the can of PVC glue so I can reuse it 6 months from now??
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 4 года назад
Well if the can and cap are in good condition then you can just tighten it down and keep it out of the heat. Most cans will last 2-3 years.

Quick question, do you think it would help to slightly warm up the PVC with map gas before applying the glue for a better seal, or would it just be overkill?
@FlexPVC
@FlexPVC 4 года назад
@@andrewgoodshepherd3975 , NO, never heat the pipe before gluing. It'll cause the glue to dry way too fast. Bad idea. Don't do it. :-)
