1. I am a bit disappointed it doesn't have at least a minimal bit of light. 2. I like that it is black. It can be carried hanging on the outside of a bag or garment without drawing attention to itself. 3. I am impressed with the power of such a small device. 4. I am delighted with my original Flex Tail pump and trust the company to stand behind their product.

Finally a pump with an easily replaceable battery! I am tired of products that come with internal batteries, as you end up throwing out a device that still works. I am also happy they did not include a lantern on it, as I would rather have a dedicated lantern with it's own power supply -No risk of running out of juice early due to the lantern, while in the wild.

Don't really care about a lamp on a mattress pump - that's why we have head lamps! 😁 yeah, a bright orange lanyard on that puppy is a good idea!
@jamespaul2587

Agreed, however a backup light is always useful, especially if someone is inflating this without a headlight. That would remove the need for a hand held light, and it would focus the beam directly where needed.

True. I would have a headlamp anyway. Still, I am okay with the lamp as long as it has good run time so I have battery left to use the pump. Thanks for commenting

What an awesome little pump. Can't wait till someone makes one like this that has a nice flashlight at the end. I'd nearly want to get one just to try modding a olight to fit on the back end of it. Imagine this with a magnetic charging base and decent EDC light.

Wow, perfect little size. If they don’t have a different color, I would wrap a little bit of red electrical tape around it.

I have been quite pleased with the larger cousin to this inflator. The tiny size of that one was quite extraordinary. Now the size of this one is hard to believe. Can't help but wonder why it took so long for this niche to be discovered and developed.

I agree Lonnie. I used to look at the 12V pumps that you could buy for the much larger mattresses and wondered why they could not make them smaller. Thanks for commenting

WOW that looks really nice. Agree that they should change colors. There is nothing stealthy about using that unit. It needs to be in bright orange so you can find it easily when you put it down in the dark. Even better, give it a light reflecting strip.

Hey Mr.Y :+) we switched to using pumps just last year, and as good as they are for inflating sleeping pads and the integrated light, we find one of the best uses is in stoking a newly lit fire, we use the pumps as a 'bellows' to get the fire in our cook stoves going. The trick is, not to hold the pumps outlet too close to the fledgling fire, instead try a distance of 1-2 feet of 30-60cm +/-.

Just a minor correction. The regular X pump was actually lighter than the 2x, at 2.82 oz. I think it's because it has a runtime have of the 2x, 15 min to 30 min.

G'day Mark, yep outstanding, I'd go as far as to say mandatory for on the trail. 123A is not a battery I currently use, though a sound choice for the size and application, they are fairly commonly available and even if you take a spare, they're small and light. I'm sure some folks will be using the same battery in their illumination too. With the nozzles sorted, the perfect product IMO, thanks for showing it mate. Cheers Duke. P.S. I take a telescopic type "pocket bellows" for the fire, but I'm think'n one of these could do that job too. Either, alone with care, or perhaps a fine nozzle could by chance even fit the bellows to extend the reach and concentrate the airflow.

This one is pretty interesting, but I’d wait to see the price of the final version. I already have an inflation bag with a nozzle that doesn’t properly fit anything. I agree something that small should be a brighter colour, and that most of us already have lights, whistles, cameras or whatever other silly thing they feel the need to add to a product that no one will actually use.
@jamespaul2587
@jamespaul2587 9 месяцев назад
If you wait, the final price will be higher with these type of campaigns. The cheapest price now is $39 Cdn, which is a 47% discount off regular retail, so it's definitely not cheap!

@jimf1964
@jimf1964 9 месяцев назад
@@jamespaul2587 Yeah, that’s why I said I’ll wait and see the final price. Right now I’d still have to deal with the wrong nozzle, and the battery is useless for me as is. So I’d still have to either buy a charger or replace it with the new battery it’ll have. I’ve bought one like that in C before, and frankly it’s only half battery and half charger, and about $20. So for me, it’s just not worth it now, and if it’s too much later on? I’ll make do.

Man that is a cool little pump. I often don't bother completely filling my "self-inflating" sleeping pad because I don't like the idea of blowing into it and adding moisture to the inside of it. A little pump like this is just the thing for those situations. Thanks for sharing Mark!

I am watching and commenting just for your algorithm. At the moment I am not interested in a Air matress Pump. Having 5 cats, and one small dog, Air mattresses on our farm are NOT an ideal thing to have. Can it be used to pump up bicycle tires?

Thanks for another great overview, Mark. My concern is regarding the non-standard battery size. Are replacement batteries available, either rechargeable or not, and how costly would they be? A standard battery such as AA or AAA may add size or weight, but replacements are readily available and inexpensive. An orange version, or another bright colour is definitely a good suggestion. Edit: the website states the battery is replaceable. However, I'm not sure of the cost or availability. The lowest preorder pump price (with 47% discount) seems high at $39 Cdn, however this appears to be a sturdy and well made unit.
@MarkYoungBushcraft
@MarkYoungBushcraft 9 месяцев назад
It is a sturdy little thing for sure. This type of battery is fairly common. Having a spare should be all you need as long as you have a means to charge it. Thanks for commenting
@neonsamurai1348
@neonsamurai1348 9 месяцев назад
It is a lithium rcr123a battery, and is very easy to find online. The reason why they did not go with standard AA battery or similar is due to energy draw, energy density, and weight. It would take 3 AA batteries to be able to run it efficiently, and have enough charge for more than a couple of inflations. That would make the product larger, and a lot heavier, and it would not be able to compete with the lithium rcr123a in number of inflations.

@neonsamurai1348 thank-you for the info, I wasn't aware of that. The size and shape of the battery may work well with the other components also, it appears to be sturdy, compact, and well designed. I think I may have seen this battery in stores as one used in some smoke detectors however it's nice that this is rechargeable
