I watched this movie as a kid. Years later I flew US Air Force Critical Care Air Transport (CCATT). Our unit motto was "Any Plane, Any Place" and we lived-up to that. Salute to Air Sea Rescue and all Emergency Services workers. They risk their lives that others may live.
@@Absaalookemensch I served in a covert unit - so covert in fact, I can’t divulge the identity of the unit. What I can say is that our motto was “The more you scream - the faster we come!” 😜
Great movie. Haven't seen this since the 70s. Thank you for your dedication to us older folks with fond memories of when movies and actors were worth watching .
Love these old movies I grew up on. My father was a pastor and we didn't have a TV but we had a VCR and a small computer monitor in my room. I'd get these old flicks from the local library. I like to put these on when I get in bed at night. I fall asleep almost instantly.
@@heinrichh.3369I grew up in an L.A. Suburb. Since we were so close to the TV Transmission towers, there was no local cable service until the mid 1980s, when I was past 30! Now, I live in a small jungle village in NE Thailand. Thank goodness for cellular Internet and Smartphones!
I remember this movie when I grew up in detroit, in the 60s I haven't seen it since then, until now 2024, well done movie, good to see it again when I'm all grown up❤
I spent 22 years in the USAF, in Air Rescue. The dedication of these 2 crews was evident when I was in (retired in 2005), we’d do whatever was necessary to save, or at least try to, a life. If we failed, we did the best we could to bring them back for the families to have closure.
@@Jim-z3c It’s been 20 years since I retired, but as best as I can remember: Canada, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Barbados, Bermuda, Spain, Turkey, Kuwait, Japan (Okinawa), England, Italy, France, Germany, Iceland. After getting out and becoming a DOD contractor, Afghanistan, Iraq, Dubai.
Made m 64. I was n hi schl n 60s. Had a crush on Chakiris then. Crush on Brynner n any movie evr saw him n. This was a fantastic movie. Stories within main story. Very well done production. Suspenseful all way through. 👍
Awesome movie. I love it when we get to learn why people are where they are, how they got there, and what events in their past make them what they are. There is nothing worse in movies or in books, for that matter, than one dimensional characters. Everyone has a story.
I have seen this movie before, but with top notch stars like Yul Brynner and Richard Widmark, I know that I can watch it again and still be entertained and even get something more from it the second time.
The real costar in this film is the Sikorsky S-55/H19 Helicopter which served in the Korean War as a main cargo and troop supply chopper! It had a 600 HP radial engine that turned the three bladed main and tail rotors, but had marginal performance at altitude! Used by all US armed forces for many years it was replaced by the Sikorsky S58 Choctaw! Sikorsky himself said it all: If you are in trouble anywhere in the world an airplane can fly over and drop flowers, but a helicopter can land an save your life! And you better believe it!
There is an intensity to Widmark's acting, esp. when he is acting romantic that is borderline clumsy and rough, but somehow there is no seediness in the mix. I don't know how did it, but it worked.
This is a super outstanding movie right out there with Flight of the Phoenix, depicting people who serve in the military they're utmost bravery and self-sacrifice, and their motto says it all "That Others May Live."!!⛑
A+ I could watch Widmark all day long. What a beautiful man he is as a good guy. He even let out a touch of his unique sinister laugh (which he usually only uses for his bad guy parts) about 40 minutes in.
To this day I cannot see Yul Brenner without seeing him as a robot, if you know what I am talking about, which is really just a tribute to his acting ability.
Also because, this was a Star Vehicle made in the Golden Age of Hollywood, and they didn’t concern themselves with such details, they were making Entertainment, mainly for Home Consumption, and no one in the Audience would have been bothered either, this is a film I remember from the 1970’s (Yes, I Am that Old!), and to be honest, I don’t give a Damn about these details either. 😂
People would tell my father he looked exactly like Mr Widmark . He would tell them. NO, he looks like me 😅 . MY mother said Richard was out of touch, so she married my father. 😅.
The book it is based on is very good. Three of the characters had losses in their personal lives, and motivates them in their goal "That others may live." Another good book is "Rescue Season". PJs in Alaska.
Yule Brenner was awesome as an actor. His biggest regret before he died was not quitting those damn cigarettes as he contracted lung cancer . Shortly before he went he pleaded with people to quit. "just sayin"
Amazing binoculars, I mean to get such a close up and detailed view from the cockpit of a moving plane in bad weather. Way ahead of their time those Binos. 27:36
Oh Don' t You just love the Techical Experts, Picking out things in the Movie ! FYI if You were Ever in Those Types of Aircraft, The NOISE is So Loud that The Actors Would All Be Yelling at Each Other !
Grumman HU-16 Albatross aircraft ......................I think it is time to bring amphibious seaplanes back . Japan has a really top notch aircraft of this type .......ShinMaywa US-2 . I would be nice to think Japan took a hint from the film and got cracking on their own HU 16 . Enjoyed the film which shows aircraft of this type are very very useful and greatly needed .
Stationed in Ashiya, Japan, U.S. Air Force Rescue Service members Master Sgt. Mike Takashima (Yul Brynner), Lt. Col. Glenn Stevenson (Richard Widmark) and Lt. John Gregg (George Chakiris) all carry personal demons stemming from a past event. When the orders come down to rescue stranded Japanese survivors of a shipwreck caused by a storm, the three men jump into action. On their way through the still violent storm, each shares the tale from his past that has affected him to this day. Initial release: March 25, 1964
Mario i Oljinka želimo vam puno sreće u daljem životu. Nastavljamo da pratimo kanal i napredak u radovima na sređivanju domaćinstva. Pozdrav iz Brazila
You may notice...The film is zoomed in cutting off everything in the outermost part of the frame so that this channel may show this movie and overcome you tubes copywright rules.I personally do not want to watch a movie that is missing 30 or 40 percent of the actual film...it is very annoying and not how the film was intended to be seen.

It’s very odd that Yul Brynner would be looking out a helicopter flying in a blizzard and not wearing gloves while his hands are touching bare metal. And why do the rescuers not put on winter gear after they land?
Those are the kind of questions that I usually ask, and in this case they really are valid questions, and the only answer that I think fits is that either the technical advisor or director thought that it didn’t matter and that people would not notice, or even if they did notice the only people they could tell were the other cinema goers, no internet and social media platforms for them to worry about. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴🇺🇸🇺🇦
1:06:32 - There were no American troops in Tunisia in 1942, "Shortly After the American Forces Landed", because the American troops landed in Algeria and Morocco, and the Germans, as immediate reaction, occupied Tunisia with paratroopers and cargo gliders, in the day following the American landing.
@FloorinSutu - I was going to mention The Kasserine Pass Where the Americans were defeated against their first time against the Germans, but it turns out that happened in Feb. of 1943... I believe You are also correct About The Americans and British landing in Morocco (Casablanca) and Algeria (Algiers & Oran) on 11/08/42 With over 107, 000 men... Calling it 'Operation Torch'... 👍 1:42:00
I don't know where your employees learned to tell time this movie never happened 7 days ago..See, this why companies like yours should be banned from the Internet...
So, let me get this straight... Yul Brynner (a russian born actor) plays the part of a Japanese American Air Force master sergeant serving post WWII. Richard Widmark is prejudiced against him because his wife and child died in a Japanese prison camp. Okay, all woke boxes checked. ✔
