Operations at Aviano Air Base, Italy, March 17th, 2020.
510th Air Maintenance Unit, 31st Aircraft Maintenance Squadron prepares an F-16 Fighting Falcon for flight. 31st Operations Group commander, prepares for flight. F-16 Vipers from the 510th Fighter Squadron take off. 31st Fighter Wing Personnel direct air traffic from the Air Traffic Control tower. HH-60 Pave Hawks from the 56th Rescue Squadron taxi and take off.

I was stationed there '87 - '90 in the 40th CAMS. Aviano was a wonderful place to live & I'd love to visit to see all the changes.

My company based in Germany ran fiber optics into the 555TH command center during the Bosnian crisis. We would take the train to Venice on the weekends for fun. What an amazing place and time!

Was at Aviano in the early 70s. Worked tire shop and mostly transit alert. We turned a lot of f-4s from England and Germany. Was a wonderful place had a great time.

I got there in 82 and they still had the F-4, then in 83 they brought in 2 F-16's.Was the Jolly Bar there when you were there? And did you ever jump off the bridge at Lake Barcis? Great times at that base then I had to leave no other base ever came close to Aviano!!!!!

dont remember that name. Went downtown think place was Mario’s across from home. Went to another bar was on left had field in front. Also bar on road to flight line. Had a lot of fun there best place ever.

@@jcjc1093 I ate at that restaurant that was right outside area 2 at the intersection and the Jolly Bar was on the left hand side going out to the flight line.It's gone now and I can't find anyone who knows when it shut down, really good food and beer there!! I was with the 40th SPF.

@@jcjc1093 Oh yeah for sure, that's why it's interesting talking to someone who was there years before to find out what life was like then and if the same places existed.I had always thought I would get back within 10 years of leaving but that didn't happen! trying to make it in 4 years from now hopefully I really liked it there!

I'm a 2w1 currently in training to work on F-16s and I just found out I'll be going to Aviano, Italy. I'm kind of worried about the PRP eligibility for this base, I've heard it's hard to get. Anyone here have any insight into the PRP screening for Aviano?

What is the purpose of flying with pylons or launchers on the wings even though there are no armaments attached to them? I see this quite often.

@Bob M Thank you for the explanation. While it obviously makes sense from an operational point of view, still bugs me seeing that. Just like seeing dummy aim-120s loaded on the aircraft without the fins. After all, training is not about the looks. :)

"Decimating"? We're fine. All restrictions are now passed. There are still cases of Covid, but just affecting elders. They are now the only one affected by that.
