Loss of control is the leading cause of aircraft accidents. So things like slow flight, stalls and steep turns will almost definitely be part of your next flight review. Watch here how you can be prepared for any situation.

Another great one Jason. You mentioned an initial meeting/oral review, short flight, lunch break then “rolling up sleeves”. What is the duration of your typical flight review? Seems like an entire day affair (absolutely reasonable) and far beyond the bare min “1 hour ground/flight”. Separately, if meeting with a CFI regularly every 6 months, why not use the wings program and obviate the need for a flight review altogether?

Man, I need to do a flight review with you. I’ve never met an instructor who would do them as throughly as this. Love it. In the mean time, I’ll try to practice some of these (especially the emergency procedures like practicing taking out the first extinguisher) when safe on my own.

Last time I flew, it was still called BFR :) plus no Basic Med, had an Airport/Facility Directory and was required to have paper charts. My Instructor wants to have 20 hours of ground school to "catch me up".

Jason, If I was starting to learn to fly, It would be worth it to me to become a temporary resident of your area so I could be trained by the best. I love the way you teach and your way of making points that stick. Well done.

Great reminder on proficiency. You mentioned donning protective equipment like a fire hood. Does TFP have any product recommendations in that space? Lots of fire hoods out there and it is not always easy to figure out which are best when seconds count....

Slow flight, forget about maintaining an airspeed. Instead control an AOA. Learn to do constant AOA turns instead of constant airspeed turns. You’ll be safer in the pattern for it. No, you don’t need to actually see your AOA to do it (though it is nice to see such).

Say what you want about Dan Gryder as a person, but his AQP for GA should be the gold standard for ANNUAL flight reviews. Was really hoping to see that mentioned here, but I know you’re prob not his biggest fan. 😂

Well I'm his biggest fan; that is, both you and me are his biggest fans. I'm a fan of Jason as well. Both are phenomenal flight instructors. I view both of their channels religiously. It's not their jobs to promote each other. Wise pilots like the two of us follow both Dan and Jason.

People actually fail flight reviews?! Money grab

Can't fail. It is a minimum of 1hr ground and 1hr air. If it takes 20hrs to get "current"...
