The best thing about you that you make me sit inside your mind and see everything clearly with all the points I need to remember and all the details that my hand should remember so when I face that question in the test you will be sitting in my mind and answer my questions thank you

Thank you so much for these videos, Dr. Feller. Your systematic approach was exactly what my brain was needing. I really appreciate your thorough instruction ~ taking my written on Friday and your videos have been most helpful!!!!

@@stevesayer4045 I had the same book but probably a different edition ~ my numbers were different as well but the scenarios were the same. They were pretty easy to find, just had to look around a little!

You start with the wind direction first. If you do it backwards you still get the same groundspeed, however, your wind correction angle would be opposite of where it should be.

Dr. Feller, I am enjoying your video tutorials. I recently purchased the Jeppesen - Guided Flight Discovery Private Pilot FAA Practical Test Study Guide - Airplane Single-Engine LAND [ 10001390-002 ], which is a 2019 print. My version in Area Of Operation 8 only goes to page 8-22. Can you please tell me which specific version you are referencing in this video that has page 8-34 problem 8-56? Thank you so much for your time.

Where do we acquire the flight time worksheet?

does the test facility allow this worksheet to be brought in or does this has to be committed to memory ??

this is interesting. I like it, thinking of getting my air transportation license In canada.

I appreciate the effort you have made to make this video. When I first got my private licence some I calculated my GS and HDG just like this. But this way is not correct. For students who may watch this the method is close but not correct. To calculate drift correction and ground speed you first set the center circle to 100 as described (for ease of use). In this example, set the wind direction to 030 on the index. Come up 12 knots to 112 and make a mark. I make a cross, it is helpful to mark one or two arrow marks towards the center. This is your wind direction and speed. Set the course on the index 148 degrees and move the slide till the wind mark is on TAS (95kts). Read the ground speed at the center mark (100kts). The drift correction is left, a little over 7 degrees. Lets say 7. The course correction is made by reading 7 degrees left of the index (141 degrees). Turn the E6B over. Set the 60 marker to 100 kts (the ground speed). Read around the outside scale to 48 miles. See that the time is just under 29 minutes. Round up to 29 minutes. Add the 2 minute allowance for climb. Correct answer = 31 minutes.

why do you begin with TC, the e6b directions begin with wind direction to solve for GS, I guess it doesn't make a difference, but why?
@charlesbrewer6552
@charlesbrewer6552 3 года назад
@@ronmiller828 If you begin with TC first, you will show the drift error and the ground speed. If you start with the wind speed and direction you will show the corrected heading to fly to achieve your desired track and the ground speed. The two are very close, and in practice may not make a great deal of difference. when I first got my private l;icence this wa he way I did it but when I was studying for my commercial licence I realised I had bee doing it in-correctly. If you want to represent the vectors involved to achieve your desired track, the wind first method is the correct one. This is what the directions for the E6B say and if you draw the vectors out you will see that it is correct. I hoe this helps.

@@charlesbrewer6552 I also used to think it didn’t make a difference, but the wind correction angle will be end up being opposite if you start with TC.
@charlesbrewer6552
@charlesbrewer6552 2 года назад
@@AV4Life This is incorrect. You should read the instructions that came with youe E6B. The TC is the desired true course. The one you want to track. You are flying into or awayfrom a wind direction. You are flying at a known airspeed. You select the desired course. You put the wind x on the true airspeed. The center now shows your groundspeed when tracking your desired course. The wind correction is straight forward and is NOT back to front. This shows the correct vector addition to calulate groundspeed and heading. You fly at a true airspeed and THEN the wind blows you somewhere. You want to find out what heading you should steer to achiece you desired course and your resulting groundspeed. The method I describe shows how to achieve your desired track. Your method shows the drift angle if you steer your desired track. You then offset the drift to get heading. The results are very close but not the same. my method IS correct. Read the instructions!

@@charlesbrewer6552 as a matter of fact, I have mine right here in front of me and it says to put the wind direction first as #1.
