Hi gang
A bit of housekeeping first...the Flight travel series have an ABS body and neck but the soundboard and end face plate is made of Linden Wood.
I'm sure it's the combination of these materials that give the Travel Uke it's distinctive, clear sound.
The Flight Uke's bridge is NOT integrated into the top, it is also ABS but separately attached. It has a slot bridge which makes string change extremely easy. The Makala Uke has a tie bar bridge which makes string changes more difficult especially for the learner.
Flight have produced an amazingly good quality electro acoustic Uke for such a low price!!!...it has many pro's and very few con's. It would be nice if Flight offered the passive pickup on all models in the travel series but who knows what the future may bring?
I've had my Makala MK-S for a long time and enjoy playing it,especially for the olde time songs where it's mellow tone really puts you back into those good old days.
My experience with Flight ( via Emma ) has been first rate and I've really enjoyed our communications throughout...I can only hope this relatively young company continue to expand their Uke range with more innovations.
Please do let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are as I'm sure they'll also provide good feedback to a company that obviously listens to what you, the player, wants from your Uke.

My soprano is solid mahogany and was my mom's when she was a teenager. My concert is an Aklot that I got from Amazon for next to nothing, but I really like the sound and how low the action is. It's really well made for less that $100. I'm saving my pennies and doing my research for a Hawaiian made tenor uke.

Thanks so much for your comment Ellen. I must admit I prefer playing a tenor uke and love the kit one I play. If I had the cash I'd love one from Hawaii as well but then I'm pretty clumsy and when probably sit on it or something...:) I've been very impressed with this Flight Travel Series uke, especially when plugged in...:) x

Hi Graham. I am no expert but the flight travel was my first Uke and I became hooked. I bought the TUSL Walnut (concert neck). Paid £40 and fantastic value. For some strange reason (think its called ability 😀) mine does not sound as good as yours! I now keep it in our camper van as its so robust. Great Review.

Thanks for your comment...this was my first flight and I was impressed by the sound, especially through the amp. But I much prefer the feel of wood to plastic but still a very good uke for the price....I think this model is the only one with a pick up...it'd be nice if they offered it on all models...:)

This is a pleasant break Graham, I enjoyed this, even as a non uke player. My dad has quite a decent uke. By the way, notice you've been practicing Pink panther 😉😉. Well played.

Thanks Mike....last time I did a review was 7 years ago and I'm sure I missed out loads of things but hey ho. Flight were kind enough to give me the uke for free to help towards raising money for the charities our group support. I love playing the Pink Panther..nowhere near your standard of playing but fun...:) Think Faye is trying to arrange a meet up for a jam...yeah...:)

Hi Graham impressed with the sound of the Flight think the Makala sound's warmer but both nice, for the money don't think you can not be impressed, funny you were talking about the amp as I have just brought a new Kala tenor acoustic and now looking to purchase an amp anyway back to the Flight been looking at You Tube clips and been impressed with there ukulele,s by for now thanks for the informative video.

Thanks Rob....I agree the Makala sounds warmer or more mellow but the Flight sound is really clean and crisp. I think the Flight comes into it's own when plugged in...the sound is amazing. You can't go wrong with Kala Ukes...Roz plays a Kala Electro Acoustic Baritone which is an amazing instrument. I've been oggling the Flight Ukes for a long time and really fancy the Victoria Soundwave Tenor but I'll have to start saving my pennies...all the best Rob and thanks again for your comment...:)

Hi Roy...thanks so much for your comment...I haven't any TAB for the Pink Panther theme tune but I'm sure I learnt it from Ukulele Mike Smith's RU-vid Channel...:)

@@roymundy3688 ...no probs Roy...he was the guy who's videos taught myself and Roz the ukulele...such a lovely guy and I loved learning this one in particular....sad that he left us too soon...:(
