FlightScope Mevo 

Welp.......there is $500 less my kid is going to get towards his wedding, sorry kid priorities!

I have one. You’ve pretty much nailed it on the pro’s and cons. I don’t dot up my range balls for obvious reasons, and for me that’s the biggest drawback for accurate data capture. So, really it’s ideally suited for indoor data capture. Now! You’ve missed a really cool feature out. The device syncs to your iPhone or iPad and takes video such that only the actual swing is captured on video and not all the waggling and shuffling that goes between shots. The cool thing is that you see the shot and the numbers side by side on playback which is pretty awesome. I would think that for course vloggers it would be a really cool thing to to cut down on editing. Sorry for the uber long post! Keep up the great work, Randy :)

I've found Mevo gives fairly comparable results without the stickers on the range compared to when I hit in my garage with the stickers. I've come to realize over dozens of indoor/outdoor sessions that Mevo underestimates indoors SS/BS and distance compared to outdoors, so I just adjust in my head what I've found the difference in speed to be. I think it may have something to do with the lighting in my garage, which is explained in the instructions. Bottom line: it's a $500 unit that gives you decent data you can use. I'm using mine on off days, days it's single digits outside and to keep my golf fitness and work on my swing speed over the winter vs take 4 months off as I've done my whole life. If you need exact down to the mm distance and spin rate down to 1 rev, go mortgage your house and get a trackman. Complaining about the ball sight? The laser pointer works well, or just bring a tape measure to help you line it up straight. I keep a measure in my bag to measure 6 ft anyways. It's not that hard guys. I'v had a mevo for over a year and I LOVE it! Some of his nit picks are just him. I didn't even realize there was a 'scope' on the unit. I plop it down behind my ball and don't worry about alignment and it is fine. Also I do not stress over the distance and it picks up fine also. Assuming if you were WAY off it might give you trouble, but I haven't measured anything and it works fine. Also, regarding the dots on the ball and the range, that is just silly. Honestly it picks up the spin without the dots almost the same. I am sure it is off some, but the spin #'s are not critical to me. It is mostly about ball speed, launch angle, and carry. When you hit it and it registers more spin, you hit it with more spin. Biggest thing is the carry distance is accurate. I use it to practice indoors and keep my swing in shape and work on things. On range it is great to work on dialing in your distances. So not worried about exact RPM. Less is bad, more is good. It is great with the driver as you can never really tell how well you hit it. You smash one 240 vs 260 and it tells you. Looking at the ball on the range you wouldn't be able to tell how much difference it really was, so that is SUPER useful to tweak swing adjustments. Overall it is awesome. I would thing they could give you the overall distance? I mean it is just a calculation on higher end systems anyway? They just calc ball speed, launch angle, and spin, and then add the roll out onto the carry. So they should be able to do the math for you. So that is a little frustrating, but I am guessing they don't want to give that data as it would almost be the same as the $10K system them. Anyway, it is great.

too bad the transparency of the company is lacking. Their customer service stinks and they recently updated their site because of the lack of transparency and lack of addressing my issue. I will never buy from them again.

Surprisingly, i decided NOT To BUY this machine after i watch his review. As a beginner golfer, side angle and the side spin are two biggest problems for me (of all thousand other problems) I understand mevo is an incredible machine even "without considering its price" but it just doesn't have the feature that i need most. Calling out EA for not bundling a launch monitor with their games, then reviewing an accurate, $500 launch monitor. I see what you did there....

The Big Lebowski more like The Little Mevoski. Seriously though, I have used a couple of lower priced launch monitors Ernest Sports ES200 and Voice Caddie SC 200 and the one issue I encountered with both on the range is that if I was hitting irons/wedges off grass i had to reposition the monitors to get them back into their “sweet spot” as my divots forced me to do so. Hitting off a mat/turf would be ideal for these launch monitors but that has its drawbacks as well. My point is...send me that GC Quad yo WHOOP WHOOP!

Great video dude. I'm wanting to get a new launch monitor (I have the Ernest 12... cheesy but gets the job done) and I almost pulled the trigger on the Mevo the other night. Glad I watched your unbiased video review of it. Think I may wait for version 2.0 of this little beast.

Great review. Thanks. Been using the Mevo at the range for a few months now and while spin numbers aren’t accurate, carry distance appears to be. So for me at least that’s pretty much what I need when working on shots at the range. Also, I understand that flightscope is working on a software upgrade that will allow you to use a metallic marker instead of the stickers. That could work well at the range.

Does anyone know if this will work with Android? Amazon reviews say yes, but the MEVO website FAQ says no. Just looking for clarification. And if you have used an Android device with it, would be interested in hearing your experience. Thanks

Haven't found this anywhere..while using a phone is there a ball flight visual? I'd like to know the shape of my flight, especially as I'm spending more time trying to work the ball. Anybody know?

amazing, but surely this can only be done indoors. i can take that to the driving range, spend ages dotting my range balls and then leave those balls can i? id need to buy a ton of dots and spend about 30mins dotting 100 balls. you got to dot one ball and hit it over and over. i think this will be more successful for people with indoor set ups. never the less, its amazing for £500

Have you tried the Swing Caddie SC300? If so wondering what your thoughts were. That and the Mevo are the ones I think I am down to for my first budget launch monitor for being new and just wanting some good data from my range sessions (minus spin). Thanks

Does it not show your line or fade/draw shot shape? How does this compare to other numerical launch monitors when it's a pretty large increase in price but shows the same data readouts without an actual shot shape simulation?

Who is this aimed at? Most amateurs really need club head info (path, dynamic loft, face to path); when that kind of tech becomes affordable... happy days!

If it's cold ditch the cart and walk. Take some practice swings along the way, it really helps keep your blood flowing and warm!

What would be your opinion if I wanted to use it indoor during the winter in my garage primarily for practicing half and three-quarter shots. Would I still pick wedge if I was doing a half wide shot and you think the information it would get back would be accurate?

Random question. For the metallic dots could you not just buy a metallic silver pen and draw them on? Would make you feel less annoyed about losing the dots at the range and also wouldnt clog up the machine.

If you had a basic education on statistics, you would know, to compare "accuracy" or dispersion, you should use GC as the true data and then calculation the standard deviation of the mevo measures.

Do you think the beefed up carry distance is an algorithm error or do you think it’s because most people will be using this on the range with range balls and it’s calculated to compromise?

There is NO monitor worth $20k. GCQuad and the like are peak snake oil.

I wonder if using a silver paint marker to dot the balls would work, sounds way better than stickers.

Thanks for going through all the hideous troubles to shed the light for us. Was thinking of getting one, but has a second thought now. I am a 5.2' guy so should not have issue slitter on the ground to get it sighted right.

I understand that the company is coming out with Mevo2. Do you know anything about that?

The mevo looked a bit off on the driver but not enough to be a huge problem. Also seemed a bit more prone to a misread, which seemed to generally skew the numbers a little bit long/low spinning, but those are for averages. Shot to shot, when it didn't misread, seemed quite accurate. And I'd MUCH rather work in a misread or two into my data interpretation than spend the price of a car on the QUAD. I'd be really curious to see two quads read the same shots in a set of data to see how close they are as well. Cuz I have a feeling even top line monitors are gonna be up to 5 yards and 500 revs of spin off even on the same shot, and if so, then they're not ANY better than the mevo.

What other monitors would u suggest for around $2000

The only issue I have with it is using it with my 4G iPad which for some reason makes me login every single time going through the Facebook..you have already authorized this application, loop. My iPhone, no problem. I don't see a tremendous different with or without dot for most data through I have dots on all the balls in the indoor practice setup. I was tried using it by putting dots on my foam callaway practice balls and it doesn't register those. Otherwise, love it.

What if you didn't put the dots on the range balls . Would it get all the data other than spin rate?

The only thing i can think of for the carry distances with irons is if theyre not set to the same altitude.

We are using it with silver markers. We learned that the markers have to dry before we hit the ball. I can only say what we are doing and it's working for us. We do make the make a little larger. A couple of guys at the club are using them. I'm trying to hold out for the Swing Caddie SC200.

Does it have any flight path tracking that you can view on the app?

I know the marketing says doppler, but with the user having to select the club they are hitting on Mevo, it seems the unit may have pre programmed lofts for each club and everything is just based on algorithms (similar to the SC100)?

The launch angle inconsistencies on the driver (especially outdoors where harder to get level) are in line with other testing done. Is there a way to make sure indoors the floor is completely flat or mevo level (a bubble calibrator perhaps).Fyi the mevo algorithm is using flightscope algorithm which is a little 'hot' on mid irons against the GC2, hence why the carry number on 7i was out (as 3 determinant paramenter of BS, launch and spin are pretty much bang on)

I should add that I was most interested in carry data especially working with a net so I could work on half shots and partial wedges. Great video and very close data. I guess the price of putting on dots make it a great buy for us amateur golfers.

I got an old school Accusport Vector Pro with the upgraded cameras for like 200 bucks on the flee. I don't have to go through half the annoying things you had to with this little guy though I will admit that finding a computer that would work with the software was tough...but once you do just download the software and set your windows date back to something way back so you get a lot of free trial time:)

I found the swingcaddie sc200 far better value and just as accurate without some of the fuss of the Mevo (half the price). Only does not have spin rates. The new version sc300 has peak height and link to phone apps etc.

If you're done with it, I will be happy to test if for us southpaws if you want!! Great video once again. Keep them coming.

It looks very promising. Mevo II might fix the issues mentioned and be even cheaper.

How well does it handle a bad shot? It would have been cool if you hit a hook or a slice with your driver to compare the results. I notice it doesn't report any side spin or offline information.

Great review Randy and although I was initially very excited... the aluminium dot nonsense on each ball has completely put me off. No-one will be able to use this on a range in its current form... so that's the end of that for me. A real shame.... but thanks again anyway... you've saved me a bit of coin! Doug in the UK

Nice video Randy. How did the outdoor driver Mevo carry data compare to the actual drive?

I've been looking at this product. Other than it not my reading sidespin at all, it checks a lot of boxes. Regarding having to tell the unit what club you are using, how many clubs/how specific does it need to be. For example - what about a 18, 21, 23 hybrid? Or how about on the other end between a 50,52,53,54,56,58 wedge? Are there many choices to choose from club selection in the app or is just "sandwedge", "gapwedge" "lobwesge", 4 hybrid, 3hybrid? How about 2 wood, 3 wood 4 wood? Or it just "fairway wood"?

One of the major draw back is the dots..Then also the fact that does not allow you to select the degree if each your golf club. We need to stop callingclubs by the number ..We should call it 60 50 24...in modern days clubs can have veey different loft...mine are classic and weak loft my 7 loft is a 8 Even 9 With strong lofted clubs....So this will mess all the data useless

You read the manual, lost your man card...but then you forgot to bring the dots and regained your man card. It's all good! BTW, great demo of this product. Now begins the task of talking my wife into believing I need the Mevo.

It's really awesome that a company is trying to make a launch monitor for a good price. Hopefully, they will expand on this and start making changes to make it easier. I would still choose SkyTrak even tho it's $1,500 more than FlyScope. A couple of reasons why no dots on balls (lol), you don't have to choose the club, line the system up and you can play simulator golf with it. Love the review and please keep them coming!

That was an excellent review! I have been intrigued by this product since I first heard about it and was wondering what a $500 launch monitor could offer. That was extremely informative and as you stated for $500, not a bad investment. My only question is if you didn’t dot the balls on the course, why do you feel you would have to at an outdoor range? Maybe I missed your explanation of this. Thanks!
