Funny you should compare Flin Flon with Sudbury since Sudbury is also principally a metal ore mining town (nickel and some copper in the case of Sudbury). I wonder if Flin Flon Saturday night is anything like Sudbury Saturday night?
That brown building on the right at 6:37 was the hot spot for the night life in town the flin flon hotel at least 25 years ago and what a blast it was and great bands as well . The owners back let the water pipes freeze up one winter and that was when it closed up , Lots of great memories in FF we had a cabin at bakers narrows from 1972-2014 sure miss it !
We first lived in Wally Heights in the house my dad and grandfather built. Moved to Regina ( when I was about 8) for a bit but always came back to Flin Flon. I went to Channing School, Terrace School (McIsaac after the fire ) Ruth Betts, the old Hapnot, then moved again. Most of my junior days were spent on Fifth Avenue. married the boy two doors down. Quite a history with Flin Flon, like so many others. Thank you for your video. Sure brings back lots of memories, so poignant. Merry Christmas from a little brick house on the Canadian prairie in the very SW of our province.
One of my favourite small towns. The lakes are amazing around there. When you turned around at the border you missed out on Creighton Sk. and then Denare Beach. South of there is Bakers Narrows on lake Athapap. Absolutely beautiful .Anyway thanks for showing this place that most Canadians know little about.
My mother is from Somerset Canada and my father was American. My first cousin whom I met when I was 13 up in Winnipeg ( I'm 62 now) just passed away in May at the age of 61 in Brandon his name was Eugene Talbot and was a miner up here for many years in Flin Flon. I really regret not getting a chance to get up to Flin Flon seeing how he lived his life up there as a miner and getting to know him better but a least I got to view this great video! Thank you. ( I live in California)
I was born in Flin Flon. lived on Parkway Blvd. I still have cousins Kelly and Mark living there. I live in Calgary now but we camp at Flin Flon campground in the summer. It`s a cool place to be and the people are really friendly.
Thanks for educating viewers of this video concerning how Flin Flon got its name. All this time, I thought that it was an amalgamation of 2 separate towns or villages, Flin and Flon.
I was there in 1979 lived eventually on lake st.was at the dorms then Craton Saskatchewan chilly place i am from the east coast and no where near that kinda cold went there in December wareing a sweater and jean jacket yep ok for home.
@@joannebutler6334 Hi Joanne and Merry Christmas. I'm all retired and living in Ladner, BC. Miles Donaldson and I always threaten to return to Flin Flon for a visit.
@@glenlittle4233 I hope you aren't flooded out there. BC sure has had a rough year. Thanks for responding. I am living in the very southwest part of our province, in a little hamlet. Never thought I would be retired and happy to stay in Manitoba, but home is where I hang my heart, I guess. I have very good friend who lives in White Rock and have been out there many times. I would move out there, but could not bring my very old house and acreage. Nice chatting. Stay well and Merry Christmas!
I was borne in Flin Flon, and lived there until I was 10. Still have many fine memories, such as the Flin Flon Bombers hockey games, Phantom Lake, Ross lake area where I lived, etc. etc.
Flin Flon is beautiful, we have a cabin out in Denare. but the smell of that lil lake 2:30 smells like piss. I have to hold my breath when im driving across hahah
