@@orc001 and read my comment before commenting 🤣 the irony... I never said otherwise. My point was that it's still impressive to not only finish the story, but he completed all the achievements BEFORE the game is out. He's not only the first review I saw on RU-vid but chances are others only completed the story, and they may have only played the game for a few hours.
@@Lock2002ful why that negative energy what are you trying to prove? Can't even praise someone without hurting someone wtf. 😂 He not only has his own life obligations and other games he's covering, he completed a game that takes 25 hours + formulating a detailed review + the editing... Careful, don't read what I'm about to say because it's going to hurt your wittle feelings and fragile self-westeem... HE'S A LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
"Didn't overstayed its welcome but didn't do anything else" is pretty savage coming from Mort the cautious diplomat, but he did like the game. Sadly the setting was what seemed interesting : how often do you get Sumerian mythology ? but when Mort says "it's not that the story is bad but..." it's probably pretty bad.
first time watcher here and wow, this is why I love youtube. Every now and then you get to a point where you think you've seen it all and a creator you never seen before surprises you. Enjoyed this vid, thanks.
Hey Mortismal, might not apply for this game but for your next reviews maybe you could add the quests. Other than combat and everything that you already cover in your reviews the quests, especially for CRPGs would be nice to know your opinion
@@MortismalGaming You could give a general overview of the quality of sidequests, talk about how many there are, if they are worth doing or if they kinda just bloat the game etc.
@@MortismalGaming Thanks for considering it. It would be interesting for example to know if the quests follow a straight line or if they have more twists like The Witcher 3
Right off the bat, it looks like the characters run animation isn't synced with the travel speed. It looks like they're gliding on the ground at points and it's a bit distracting for me
A 15-20 hour story sounds right up my alley. Recently finished Control, which was a good length for a fun action game. I'm a bit burnt out on long games 😅
@@dussan2I wished the same. I really enjoyed the story (the part they I played), but it was so long and cumbersome that I couldn’t get to the rest of the game without grinding.
Same here, I know this wont be a popular opinion but FF7 Rebirth was way too long for me, I struggled to complete the last third of the game. Control was perfect length, really enjoyed that one didn’t feel like a homework assignment haha.
In mythology Enki is a trickster god who also is sort of the Patron of humanity at large. He goes against his kin in various ways to help mankind establish themselves. Chances are, this is just a retelling of one or more of those stories in a Flintlock and fantasy setting, Atleast thats my guess.
According to Zachariah Sitchens books about the Summarian Tablets Enki is one of two brothers, Enlil being the other....., who are fighting over the favor of their father (Annu). Apparently Enki is the Savior of mankind from the enslavement and inhalation of Enlil. Crazy story if it's true...? Idk?
Nice to see you cover this game, I've been curious about it. It actually reminds me of Greedfall as well as Banishers, two games I quite enjoyed. I think I will pick it up to help support the dev team, in this day of $60 and $70 games I appreciate developers who don't overprice their product. Very helpful review, thank you!
Knowing absolutely nothing about this game, I'm going to guess that Enki is the God of Death who tricks the main character into killing the gods, the only beings capable of closing the door that is letting the undead through into the mortal world.
just finished it with 17,5h, it's a solid and quite positive 7. It's junky, but quite fun, I recommend it. Thanks for the video! Amazing job as always.
I would say.. it's a nice game! It can offer something new in core gameplay, but lacks interesting enemies. Main Bosses are great, but there are simply not enough of them
Another one into the collection with RoboCop, Evil West, Mad Max, Returnal. Basically, 20-30 hours of fun, nothing more, nothing less. Good, we need such games.
Man I got a solid 70 hours out of Mad Max, and even years later I still think about it occasionally. That game had absolutely no business being that good.
I love this game and playing every night. I'd rank it behind Lies of P. The combat's wild af with multiple enemies. It's getting slammed sideways over company drama, layoffs, ect. My only con, don't like the parry. Almost never use it.
This game/its gameplay reminds me so much of games that used to come out on the Xbox360 and I love it. It’s getting a lot of hate and I’m not sure why.
I think it's mostly getting a lot of indifference because we've had a ton of souls-like in recent years, and the Elden Ring dlc just dropped. Everyone is either playing or just finished playing that.
I feel like options like that should be available for people with disabilities or issues. For example I am a guy who has beaten bloodbourne and 100 percented sifu. But I can't beat sekiro because my hand reaction time has diminished from my own issues. Got half way through and wasn't able to. So it would be good to have for those type of situations. Just my take.
@InMaTeofDeath done several playthroughs of Ashen and really liked it aesthetically, and for the overall mood. Keep in mind it's not as tough as most of the usual soul-likes - which makes it a great entry point for beginners in my eyes
Seems like a fun game. I love souls-like/lite games. Don't really care for the FromSoftware originals since they're mostly medieval settings (Bloodborne excluded), but some of the games inspired by them have been fun like Steelrising, Lords Of The Fallen, Remnant, and the soulslite games like Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor. In Sumerian history, Enki (lord of earth) was the brother of Enlil (lord of air), both of the Anunnaki race. Enlil wanted to create human beings as slaves to mine gold, and Enki didn't want to play god like that. So he's always been the "good guy" of the story. He still went along with it, but wanted humanity to be intelligent and evolved contrary to Enlil's agenda.
Really bummed to hear about the story (or lack thereof), especially after the demo set the stage so well. Still gonna play it, though! After dropping another 100 hours into Elden Ring and its DLC, I'm ready for something different.
The ending is gold IMO, really hoping for more since it is hinted. However as in general this game has been thrashed, it doesn't seem likely we'll ever see DLC or a sequel.
Thanks for this. It being on Game Pass is a huge plus for me so I don't have to worry too much if it doesn't keep my attention for long enough. I'm someone who needs a good story giving me a reason for all the fighting (which is why I play games like Witcher, Horizon, GoW, Ghost of Tsushima etc.). I enjoyed the demo because it wsan't too souls-y for me in terms of difficulty.
The Steam demo already sold me on the game, I really had fun with this. After being burned out a little by Elden Ring, I look forward to this souls-lite game. Gives Fallen Order vibes.
@@PrimedSnake Ah man, I probably have a 100+ titles between Xbox and Steam. I'm a sucker for sales. Probably not much you haven't heard of though: Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Divinity II, XCOM 2, Ni No Kuni II (lot of sequels coincidentally), and a ton more. Recently finished Dodgeball Academia which might be under your radar. Cute JRPG-inspired game set at a Hogwarts/X-Mansion-esque school for dodgeball haha.
@@MisterEnsayne Ni No Kuni II is Atrocious. Bad story, bad characters, a complete grindfest. If you liked the first, it's just a completely different and much, much worse game....
I always liked the core combat system and mechanics of FromSoftware games but action and movement part was something that felt lacking and Flintlock is fixing this personal itch for me! 😍 I was waiting for Flintlock for quite some time now and free demo on steam convinced me to purchase the game (even though I have it on game pass) just to show my token of appreciation towards the devs for not being greedy and being brave enough to re-imagine typical Souls-like experience.
Hey! This isn’t exactly the type of game you usually play but I’m wondering if you’ve ever played Fire Emblem 3 Houses? Love your reviews! Helped me pick up several games.
Demo felt solid for me. And at the price I feel good about a day 1 purchase. Hopefully it can find a market. And maybe we can even get a sequel which addresses some issues and innovates further.
I would say it's a let down but It seems solid enough for what it is. Will definitely check it out on Gamepass and making it $40 was definitely a smart decision that more games should look into following. A lot of games out there that can't command being full price and would probably make more money by acknowledging that fact.
I felt like i was playing a mishmash of titles. As if there were two or three development teams that could not or would not work together and each created their own perfect game, and then stitched it together into a frankenstein's monster of good, but incomplete ideas.
I've noticed every one playing this game - myself included, used the same identical weapons. I found the combat a bit non responsive early to mid game. Later it got a bit better.
Pity that they did not go a little more deeper about gods. When you said that Enki is a lesser god I was hoping that they took some inspiration from Terry Pratchet book Small Gods.
I'm finishing the game and I don't have enough iron to upgrade my second hand weapon (hammer) to get the achievement. There's very little loot in the game and it doesn't appear after the world is reset. Did you upgrade all the weapons in one playthrough?
You cannot upgrade all items, there's simply not enough resources. I ended up with helm, 2 melee weapons, one grenade and the main flintlock upgraded to max, then a couple others upgraded once or twice.
I enjoyed the demo so much, I locked in my purchase a day or two ago. That's usually how I buy games - preorder only a few days before the release so any launch issues are easily refundable. Looks like I won't have to worry about that this time, though! This is comfort food gaming, in my books. Doesn't overcharge, overstay, or overpromise. Just simple, honest indie/AA fare done right, a quintessential 8/10. And in my books, it's important to support indie devs and their comfortable 8/10 games, because the AAA side of the industry will charge you twice as much for half as much game made with a tenth of the passion. So in short... I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
got this game and played for a few days and its an ok to good game, but sadly not my taste...but if u like these kinds of games to start with it might be for u.. visuals was good and traversal i really liked alot in this game, but the boss fights n empty feeling i felt was not for me/im more of a witcher a.c series and cp2077 kind of games i like and even cod n battlefield missions i also love, but i didnt feel like it was fun to play n tired a few days into the game so not many hours but atleast tried it enogh to know it wasnt for me sadly Thanks 4 another great video...but would u call this a linear experience or semi open world kind of gameplay?? i myself really cant say to 100% what i would call it
Great review. Sadden to hear the game does provide anything outstanding. Still it does sound like it's a bad game and since it's on Game Pass I'll probably try it out.
On another note. I downloaded it on game pass. The game is so dark. I tried gamma 100% still hard to see stuff in darker areas. It’s a shame as I like it.
Hey Mort, is it possible to turn off the fog/butter smearing visuals in the game? I'm not usually fussed about graphics but the weird foggy look is a bit offputting for me. I need some colour!
The game is decent. Story and characters are irrelevant. Exploration and combat are the best things here. Enjoying my time with it. If it wasnt on Gamepass I'd wait for a sale.
Got this and i guessed right on the kind of god enki is withering curses and marks of death duh an easy give away a god of life would have full control over that domain not the god of death
Thanks for the time and information! I think I may pick this one up. I was on the fence but August for Star Wars and wu Kong seems too far away lol! I’m replaying farcry 6 now mixed with Helldivers
Stuff like this doesnt really require anything besides just playing the game all the way through, plus a lot of games released these days don't have insanely obscure stuff anyway. Other times I either figure it out on my own, or I miss the embargo, which happens sometimes, and then I can collate information from everyone else.
Just played it on seriesx performance mode. No problems, technically. Wont give up on it just yet as the movement feels good to use but not feeling the combat yet.
Sounds like a great game for me. Not too long, good combat with a few different things going on, rewards aggression, and ... has Dragon Age Dreadwolf's story line? Count me in!
