This press has worked like a charm for my projects ru-vid.comUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with.This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

Hey Jeff, yeah, I was super thrilled when I found the pins. They were the last missing piece to this build. As for the bolts I was a bit concerned if they are strong enough since they have to support the drill press upside down. But they are :) Even when I should get rid of the drill press in the future I will keep the bolts atleast ;)

Very good video. Thank you. I used to cut down full sheets of ply as you were doing on the table saw with many of the same problems, then I bought a Festool track saw on recommendation from another wood worker and now cutting down sheet goods is easy and IMHO much safer than using the table saw.

Amazing that you only have 296 views!

I want to build a similar one. What size drill press is that? I am wondering if the 12 inch drill press be too high of a tool to have a flip top cart and make it unstable. How is your experience so far while using it?
@BauWoodworks
@BauWoodworks 3 года назад
Nice! My drill press has a height of about 73cm (28 in). I really like the cart so far. The wobble in the side bothered me after a while and I made 4 triangles that act as brackets between the base plate and the sides. Now it is really rock solid. I will include that upgrade in the article on my website and also put it in the plans soon.

@1SGBob1
@1SGBob1 4 года назад
I like the indexing pins. I was wondering how the holes in the flip top are fareing? How long is the pin that goes into the top? Do you think it would be prudent to add pieces of tubing similar to the bearing surface for the 3/4" pipe? Thanks for sharing.
@BauWoodworks
@BauWoodworks 4 года назад
Yes they are great. They go about 6mm into the hole. I thought about letting the pin go into a metal tube. I already purchased the tube and decided against it since the hole the rather hard beech wood are suficient 👍

Nice project, quality management very professional. Would a counter weight at the bottom plate stabilize the construction against vibration etc.? KR from Germany, subscribed ☺
@BauWoodworks
@BauWoodworks 3 года назад
Hehe yes the quality management is on point and always challenging me 😉 Yes I think that would help. Although I don't know if that makes moving the cart even harder. The cart is 70-90kg already, plus all the stuff in the drawers... I think about running a threaded rod in the center of the pipe in the flip top that is held in place with nuts and washers at each side. Hence apply pressure to the sides of the cart and make it rack less. But I guess it doesn't bother me enough at the moment to really do something about it 😅 Viele Grüße aus Berlin 😉

The construction is awesome, however due to the nature of the build, does it not wiggle a bit? Id potentially add some suporting mechanisam that can be removed when flipping just to ensure that its somewhat "Wiggle free"?
@rw7532
@rw7532 4 года назад
I think if some stretchers were installed in the front and back on top of the bottom piece and between the left and right side would help keep it from racking, I saw quite a bit of sway when he was suing the extension wing.
@BauWoodworks
@BauWoodworks 4 года назад
Thanks Nino and yes there is a bit of wiggle. It didn't bother me yet. I wouldn't want to add something that makes the flipping operation painful. There are several ways to achieve that though.
@BauWoodworks
@BauWoodworks 4 года назад
R W yes that would be good method 👍. I thought about adding someting like this, but the bit of wiggle didn't bother me. Another way I thought of is adding a steel wire that runs in the pipes, can be tensioned and applies pressure to the to sides.

I must have missed a detail as I did not see how you stopped the spindle from going round and round, I apologise as it was most definitely my fault but at seventy years old I sometimes have these blanks (don’t worry I no longer drive and my son keeps an eagle eye on me if I am using any tools). It will not be long until I sit in the corner and just make weird noises (oh, hang on I have also been accused of that) but I just conveniently forget about it). It is amazing what you can get away with and blame it on dementia. I enjoy your video and I will type that in before I forget that as well. PS my son tells me I am only sixty nine so I am not as batty as everyone says.
@BauWoodworks
@BauWoodworks 4 года назад
Hi John, thanks for your comment. Seems like nothing can take your humor! I like that 😄 I assume you are talking about the table being held in one of the two positions. At 12:20 I install these spring loaded indexing pins, that go in to the table and can be pulled out to swivel the table around. Oh or are you talking about turning the table endlessly in one direction, which will break the cable running inside? Therefore I did not do anything, but made a note in my mind to not do... But as someone else suggested in the comments a stop on one side would prevent me from doing it. Hope you have wonderful time with your son in the shop! 😀

Hi, great vid 👍 thanks. What do you estimate the weight of the 2 tools is? Did you choose tools of similar weight?
@BauWoodworks

Thanks 🤗 The drill press is 15kg and the sander about 30 kg 🐘 so they are not the same 😅

Awsome idea! I had try to build analog in sketchup and I have a question: what is height of your drill press? I am planning using something like jet jdp15 and it height is 1 meter. In this case stand looks to much high.
@BauWoodworks
@BauWoodworks 4 года назад
Thank mate! Yes, 1m sounds pretty high. If you add a bit of clearance for the drill press and some to the floor you'll end up with 1.15-1.2m at the bottom of your drill press. If you are 2.5m that's fine 😅 My drill press is 73cm high and the working height (height of the surface = where the drill press stands on) is about 90cm. I am 1.78m and that is almost a bit high. Maybe your drill press is too much of a beast for a flip-top 😅😅

hi, what stops the top from twisting around more than once and damaging to cable?

Well, just my mind 😅 I always rotate the Flip-top just back and forth in one direction 👍

I would build something like this but I don’t have a young lady from quality management that will assist me so I’m going to wait until I get one of those first.

I would like to use a similar concept to create a tabletop out of a dual sided door, so that both sides can be displayed. Is there any way to do this without drilling all the way through the door, and just adding extensions to serve as an axle on both sides?
@BauWoodworks
@BauWoodworks 2 года назад
Hi Kai, yes absolutely. I think if your table is thick enough you can just drill a hole on each side and insert a piece of pipe. Should work ;)

my issue with these flip stands is the wobble. i better think of ways to reduce it.
@BauWoodworks
@BauWoodworks 3 года назад
Yes the wobble is there. I don't mind and haven't had a problem with it. There are several ways to reduce/eliminate it. You can add trianguler brackets at the bottom. The size of them is limited by the size of your tools, since the have to clear them for the flipping operation. Another solution would be a stell cable that runs through the center of the pipe with a mechanism to put tighten it. This puts pressure on the two plywood sides and hence reduces wobble 😉

Hi Thomas, they are from Gantner Norm, which is a provider for standard machine parts. Here is the german Amazon link: amzn.to/3IZUHtT Maybe they also send to the US or have a sales partner in the US.
