Yes, for hours and hours. This technique revealed to me I was actually ambidextrous. I learned I could pitch and flip faster down a shoreline because I didn’t have to change hands to engage my reel. I also learned I wasn’t missing as many fish due to having to change hands.

Exciting to see some tournaments banning FFS. I boat captain for a high school fishing team and to watch other boats with two youth anglers on the front staring down at a screen is heartbreaking. Fishing is about getting away from the screens and enjoying all that is around you.

@Boethius411
@Boethius411 Месяц назад
@@MichaelBecker-jn8yi do you have a point? It would still be about catching fish without that black box and the multiple screens and transducers too. Personally I don’t care much what they do on the elite levels, but in these events where scholarships are at stake and sponsorships that can launch young anglers into the next level and a career…. Well I will put it this way. The guy who won AOY and ROY in 2000 and just retired from the BPT last year was able to cut his tournament fishing teeth in a 17 foot aluminum boat with me… I worked to build a couple of youth leagues and get high school programs started so kids could have opportunities that we only dreamed about. Neither of us did that so big money could guarantee those opportunities went to kids who need them the least. Daddy’s money has always bought some advantages but that it’s now basically buying scholarships and opportunities that more deserving kids need is not what the guys who were working toward and talking about building the sport 30-40 years ago were aiming for. Local boat dealers hiring a couple of college kids part time and providing them a basic demo to fish the opens is a thing of the past… because somewhere along the way we stopped trying to grow the sport and just started growing the business. This is an extension of that. As a fisherman, a businessman, and a father… we need to get back to creating opportunities for young anglers rather than adding obstacles. That’s the real story here and I’m saying that as an open water angler who loves his electronics.

@@Appalachias_Son FFS is in no way anything like using a drone. A drone is an actual video or picture. FFS is a sonar image. You do not know exactly what it is you see. Have you actually used FFS? I have watched many of the best anglers in the world have something bite their lure and hear them say “I hope it’s a bass”. Then watch them pull up a drum, or catfish, or striped, or crappie, or other. In using a drone on Elk you are going to be sure it’s an elk and not wonder and then end up with a bear or a rabbit. I’m older than you Randy and fish club, weekend and Tuesday night tournaments. Most of them are one day events and I still win about every 10th tournament I fish flipping. 30 years ago I won more often but really haven’t seen much difference since ffs came along. When I catch 5 big fish on a jig I win and usually know it before I weigh in. What happens at the highest level doesn’t necessarily translate to the weekend angler and I think ffs hurts as many guys as it helps.

Why is it worthless??? Maybe in tournaments because the NORM now is a majority video game fishing, but some still Flip and Pitch. And Yes, I retire in June and will definitely become a member then! It's worth the expense for your experienced knowledge. Denny Brauer was a Masterclass flipper, as was TBiffle. GHackney also is a Masterclass Flipper. But I agree, it takes time, effort and true angling experience to Flip and Pitch.... It's tedious, stealthy, harrowing, and requires total concentration and extyremem patience...And I'm not very good at Flipping and Pitching, but I keep trying. 🙃Today's new anglers, like the newer generations, don't have the patience, and the new anglers don't have the desire to learn to Flip and Pitch...They want instant gratification and the way to do that is Video Game fishing.

Randy, comparing FFS to using a scope is way out of touch. FFS would be comparable to hunting at night with thermals.
@willbutler2639
@willbutler2639 Месяц назад
No ffs is like “hunting” with a drone in the air. Is it illegal to fly a drone and look for deer probably not. But it’s wrong. In Alaska for example it’s a law that you can’t fly and hunt on the same day. It puts the animals at unfair advantage because the person is flying their plane around looking for a better spot to hunt but when they see something they want they say “we’ll land close by because what we’re after is right here” it’s a reason Alaska put a stop to that because it’s wrong. Just like FFS
@djboogiejay1616
@djboogiejay1616 Месяц назад
I was hoping somebody caught that. Sometimes he just goes entirely too far. Hunting long range with a scope takes some serious skill to take the animal down. Round placement is not as easy as just looking down the scope. That was a very ignorant comment. I recently started pitching and flipping. I respect the art form of doing so but I really couldn’t learn it until I got a boat. There’s no need for it fishing from the bank most of your fishing life. This FFS hate has Randy going extreme on damn near everything. I guess we need to go back to washing our clothes in a stream with a wash board because these darn front loading washing machines are the devil. What’s next, electric fillet knives vs non electric fillet knives. Everything does not have to be compared to FFS.

@djboogiejay1616 yes this obsession with FFS has taken over his ability to reason. We are trying to increase the number of young people and kids in the outdoors. @bent_life9865
@bent_life9865 Месяц назад
@@djboogiejay1616long range shooting is difficult. So many variables to take into account; however, the variable of the animal sensing you has all but been eradicated when they are 1000 yards away. Heck half the time they will look at you and go back to feeding having no idea that they are in danger. FFS takes some skill as well. The act of fishing and having connectivity to your bait and having some degree of understanding as to how your lure is behaving and the subtle changes that signify a bit are negated when you can watch an electronic representation of the activities underwater in real time. It’s not a magic wand, but it’s far from historic fishing. Much like shooting an elk at 1000 yards with a 300 PRC after dialing 20 clicks on your night force compared to a 300 mag and a cross reticle, no turret, at 350 yards. They simply aren’t the same. It’s a different skill set and a set that a “hunter” or “fisherman” can’t acquire rapidly without intimate knowledge of the animal or fish and his gear.

Tech to this point has allowed anglers to find fish, but you still had the mystery to “FISH” for them. (2D is a weak contradiction ) We’re literally in the “asterisk” era of the sport! It blows my mind that anglers call the FFS tech professional! Yes, we all know that it is not easy to master the spotlighting tech, but it still is what it is. “A tech that allows real time fish/lure interaction”. A tech, once mastered, undoubtedly is a shortcut to success!

Biffle became irrelevant years before Livescope even came out. His only salvation for a couple of years was throwing the Biffle Bug on a wobble head. He resisted finesse fishing and dropshotting and got his teeth kicked in because he was not willing to change and adapt. If a situation arose that was conducive to flipping, he was ok. Other than that, he wasn’t competitive because he didn’t adapt and wanted to beat the bank all day with his flippin stick. Matt Herran essentially said the same thing about Biffle. Biffle is a great angler but unwilling to put more techniques in his arsenal to remain competitive and thus he became a non factor.

nobody really pays me to fish: most I'm winnin' is a few hundred in a club tournament. So flippin' & pitchin' will be happenin' in my boat for many years' to come. It's such a solid way to catch big bass. And at least at my level- I know quality fish will hold in weeds more as more& more club& regional guys in my area go offshore & chase open water bass.

So now you’re not a true hunter if you shoot an animal at a couple hundred yards with a scope ?? Native Americans pushed animals off cliffs for food and they would’ve gladly taken a modern rifle if they had a chance . What do you think a Native American would thing about your 250 hp outboard and bait caster ? It’s time to admit technology has passed you up the way you used to fish is no longer relevant. Your whole argument is just getting more and more sad
@fishybassvon5752
@fishybassvon5752 Месяц назад
So much for “just accept the advancing technology “ nonsense. There are so many directions technology can improve, just because technology is going one direction doesn’t justify it is the right direction. How it is used also matters a ton. Chemical weapon is one type of technology, function gain research to weaponize virus is a super advanced technology…apparently we cannot embrace these just because they are also technology. There are bottom lines. FFS is not comparable to any existing “technology “ in fishing to date, it has changed fishing fundamentally and has crossed that bottom line.

Great comment. He lost me a while ago, now it's too much negativity, trying to find any analogy to be relevant. Now FFS hurts Flippin, its crazy. Uses terms like, native Americans, student of the game, Real fishing techniques, hunting comparisons that are just ignorant. Should be promoting fishing for kids and young people.

I quit following Randy a year or so back. I decided to give him another try. If he would do more actual fishing videos, not just tips and tricks, then maybe I would stick around. This extremism, way left leaning, and obsession of FFS has lead me to quit following this channel AGAIN. I understand everything he is trying to say but this is to the extreme. I have FFS and hardly ever use it. It is at the ready if I want to. I just don’t like the bashing of other fishermen and him saying that they don’t know how to fish without it. They had to get started somewhere and I bet it wasn’t with FFS the first time they went out on a boat to fish. Randy sounds more like a whiny old man that is too stubborn to learn technology and bitch about not being able to figure it out. I’m done with Randy. He reminds me of the KAREN that is standing at his/her dock saying you can’t fish there on a public lake. Get off your soapbox and either learn it or start winning tournaments to prove your point. You, Randy, start putting more actual fishing videos out, like you used to, and I will come back. Until then, good luck.

Trust me. No native Indian was concerned about the "sportsmanship" of getting close. They were trying to kill an animal with an they had. Rocks, sticks, and sinew. You're better off trying to get different classes of fishing regarding the electronics. Trying to ban ffs is just causing pushback. Leave it be and get a limited electronics class. Maybe only allow a gps and cellphone. No sounders at all. And then a unlimited class afterwards.

Was onboard about the FFS for bass tournaments but when you claim your not a hunter if you take game with a hunting scope is about as far as I’ll be following you . Think we should be in a tree standing on limb throwing spears at deer ? Remember a famous silhouette on a t-shirt of an Indian holding a compound bow above his head and the words WHAT IF ? Below the picture so it’s about weighing the good and bad not going backwards in a Time Machine .
