I’m so inspired by you! About 25 years ago I was a broke single mother. I worked as a RN, but I couldn’t make enough to get ahead. It was a struggle every month. I started buying and selling used appliances . It saved my life financially many times. Your thought process is a great thing to watch. No whining, no complaining, no talking on about life being unfair, just a good old American can do attitude along with a liberal amount of hard work!
@vickimanager

How smart of you to do that!! Back then, how did you sell? Ads in local papers? Or were you one of the first sellers on Ebay?
@nvonedge
@nvonedge 3 года назад
That’s so great that you were able to do that! There are many hard working Americans that struggle to make ends meet that wouldn’t have the time, space, social support, or initial capital to get started on this. That doesn’t make them any less hard working. Apologies if I misunderstood the intent of your message and you didn’t mean to imply that others complain too much and just as easily could do what fft is doing.

This would be a great sideline job for any woman at home with kids. If you work in the garage, you just make a play area for the kids, like a corral, and use those foam mats to make a soft surface for them to sit and play on, where they can play while you flip. I am a painter and when my babies napped I would paint. As the kids got older and more self-sufficient I would keep them in sight while I worked or cooked. If you have house rules and know how to administer them correctly, you can have quite a calm home where kids love to immerse themselves in play. Watch Supernanny for all sorts of parenting hacks and proper ways to parent.

I was going to post the same thing. I restored a piano with it after my toddler banged on it with a piano. It’s awesome. I really like to follow it up with sc Johnson paste wax. In Utah were the dry weather can destroy furniture I wipe down all my furniture with both these things every fall. My 20yr old kitchen cabinets still look new.

My dad used to add turpintine or mineral spirts to oil paints. Not only did he add it to the can of paint, I think he had a jar and would dip his brush in it periodically while painting to help with brush strokes. Just an option to try if the spray paint primer doesn't work out.

I know; college prices are horrific. We sent our son to Harvard and daughter to Bard. Luckily they both got scholarships that paid half the tuition. We just put off ANY home maintenance or any repairs until they were done with college; no fancy vacations, no new cars or adult toys. Also our father died and the sale of his property in Los Angeles basically paid much of this tuition. The kids graduated with no debt. They worked their butts off in HS to deserve a great college and all their hard work paid off with lots of acceptances and good scholarships. Best wishes for your grandson's college visits.

As someone else said, thanks for giving us mamas something to do! For a long time I knew that I loved flipping furniture but I never actually tried painting furniture and things like that. My husband has been deployed for the past 8 months and after our kids went to sleep I needed something to keep my mind busy. This was that thing! It’s been really slow since it is just me and I don’t have anyone to help me lift furniture in and out of the truck. I’m very excited for my husband to get home to start flipping more often! Profits will be going towards paying off our truck and soon towards buying land to start our farm!♥️

Boy, these nightstands turned out so beautifully. The before and after is very good to do not only to keep track of the items you flipped, but it gives you personal pride and encouragement in the great job you did. I have a Shawl Shelter shop on Etsy and I keep a log I fill out for each item I make -- kind of yarn, amount I used, hook size used, item finished size, fiber care, and so on. Then when I list on Etsy I have all that information ready to use in listing the items. You do a very good job on your pieces and I can tell you have teaching experience because you are very clear in what you do and why. Very good videos and it is so generous of you to share your methods so that others can flip too. I wish I were younger so I could do this myself (I am a retired art teacher).

On property selling TV shows like The Unsellables on youtube, the show's painters sometimes get permission to paint people's furniture. Usually it is dark and traditional. Gosh, a pair of dark bookcases painted a white, light gray or taupe really update the look of a home. Suddenly instead of drab and uninspiring, it is light, bright and cheerful. Paint can make a huge difference in updating a home. I don't know if I would want to paint top quality pieces like Ethan Allen or PA House traditional cherry, but cheaper brands, yes, definitely.

I love your attention to detail! There is someone local to me that I can tell is flipping furniture, it looks soo bad usually though. The wood bleed through is horrible. Similar prices are being asked for too!

I just bought a chair for $15 that looks so similar to those two sets of chairs and I was wondering how to clean it so glad I found this video.

Wow! Can't believe some of nice things you find! Good job on everything you did and congrats on getting those student loans paid down! I've bn thinking about doing some since I've bn watching you and some others but I don't really have a good place to work. And I agree with you on the can primer. It looks s a mess and I have thrown brushes away too!

Looking on line, you can add mineral spirits to the oil based primer to thin it out. I've read 1 part spirits to 3 parts primer or to just add some spirits to some primer and try out different amounts until you find what you like. Awesome flips as always!

Howard's Restora-Shine, Restor-a-Finish or Feed-N-Wax are all great products for sprucing up wood products that need just a bit of something. Depending on how the product looks at the start, how much improvement you are hoping for determines which product will work best. Feed-N-Wax moisturizes and seals wood that is in good shape but just needs to be revived a bit but looks great otherwise.

A sprayer is faster but you also have to remember that you have to clean it. So you'll add cleaning time to the project time.

I am always amazed at how high used furniture can be sold in the US 😳 In my part of the world you would never even get close to that and believe me, I have tried. For those first chairs? You'd be lucky to get any money at all...

Well done! I would point out that those chairs went so quickly because, in my opinion, you set the price to low. I think you could easily charge $25 more for virtually everything and still achieve brisk turnover.

I love Neim's editing skills. I also love the music. It is like no one else's. This makes it so refreshing to watch your videos. I'm so into those beats. The shirts you wear in your videos are cute. I like the minimalistic vibe. Wait! Did your dad get his wish and keep the orange chairs?!

I noticed in both of your videos where you use the primer that the wind looks like it’s getting the off spray in your eyes. Goggles or glasses?

Try using a roller for your primer, can wrap brushes and roller in plastic to use later. Can get them to last a couple of weeks if wrap well. Great videos

In reference to the primer...I'm somewhat new to furniture but could you maybe add something ( water or other thinner) to the primer and go ahead and get that sprayer...that way the cost of the can will stretch even farther whilst still giving you the ease of spraying. It's not as hard to learn how to use a sprayer as you might think. The con to sprayers, to me, is the sprayer clean-up. Maybe your subscribers have a tip for making that part easier..idk. I love watching. I especially love how thorough and deliberate you are!

I absolutely love your videos. It inspires me to use my creativity. I am so glad you are successful with it, but I don’t think anyone in my area would pay those custom prices. I do wonder where you find your customers. Just on marketplace & Facebook page? Are there tips on finding customers for custom pieces? Thanks for all your encouragement! 🙂
