Your work is very gorgeous the blending is absolutely seamless you should be extremely proud of your work thank you for sharing all of your books you should be very proud of yourself you have a beautiful collection of Timeless art thank you again
Thank you so much for the compliments on my coloring book pages! They mean a lot to me :) I have battled nerve issues that have affected my ability to hold a pencil and make fine movements. I had double surgery late last year, and things are progressing well in the recovery process. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be able to return to my heyday of coloring, but I’ll always have the books and pages I’ve completed!
I believe your show and tell is one of the best I’ve seen. To spend time on each page, is great, and I thank you for your time. Your colouring is wonderful.
Michelle, we truly are our worst critic... hun all your pages are BEAUTIFUL! I agree to never black out a page that we think are mess ups... cause you really should leave them alone and just remember WE ARE NEVER PERFECT! LOL!!! I know we all want to be. i love that you shared your work with me. YOU are amazing!LOVE LOVE LOVE your SHARK page, and that WIP T-Rex page... new subscriber. sending big LUVnHUGZ, Rita Donnelly
annie1234z Thank you 🙏 First, I apologize for such a late response! I plan on making an updated completed pages video very soon, and I think you’ll like the progress!
Thank you for sharing, especially showing your earlier work that you aren't so happy with. Your colouring now is so very good. You've really improved! Really enjoyed your video of your finished works.
Just discovered your channel! Thank you for sharing your coloring journey with us. It gives newer colorists hope we can improve. Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing your other videos. 💕
@Salina Z. Thank you so much; you’re too kind ☺️ I have a second video on my channel if you’d like to take a look. Improvement is certainly possible with time and effort! I have encountered some health issues preventing me from coloring atm, but I hope to get back to it in the next few months.
Thanks for your comment! I show the bad so that people that just start out like you realize that you’re not doing anything wrong if your first page doesn’t look like some on Instagram! But also, it shows you the gorgeous work everyone is capable of with time and practice!
I think all of the pages are beautiful (yes some better than others, as is the case for anyone), and I don’t know why you say you can’t draw. I was impressed with your drawing!! :)
Ok, I gotta say, the picture you did of the sand & camels traveling near to the ocean was FANTASTIC! I think the sand done in watercolor is AMAZING ! No page buckling and no streaks and perfect shading. Wow! Which watercolor brand & brushes did you use if I may ask? And leave the multi-colored butterfly! it really doesn't look so bad + you said yourself not to black out a page so you can learn from what you didn't like. It all serves as inspiration!
Thank you! First off, I apologize for the late response. I used Daniel Smith watercolor paints and a Princeton brush. If you visit a craft store, Winsor and Newton Professional paint is a good Artist Quality paint that can be found at most of them. And Princeton or any “professional” or “artist” watercolor brush would work fine - I suggest a Round brush in a size 8 for most work and then a smaller size for smaller details. Enjoy! P.S. I kept the butterfly 🦋
Did you maybe just close the book too soon after spraying the fixative? I had that issue with it rubbing off because I didn't wait long enough. Love that you don't just colour with Prismas like so many people hehe.
I do have a clear fixative spray i use for pages with pencils that smudge and rub off. It really helps cure that problem! I don't think its your time waiting to close the book... some pencils have more wax in them and rub off easier just from the pressure of the closed book.
Maybe your local copy center could re-bind the spiral Magical Jungle for you to a thinner binding that won't get in the way so much? It's frustrating when you try all official options and they aren't satisfactory :(
Wow! I adore your honesty and applaud your skills girl! Amazing walk through of your books and you were a pleasure to listen to. Judging by the time that you've spent in Dr's waiting rooms you seem to have a lot on your plate so I wish you well & once again hats off to you! Your pages give me courage to start on my first book purchased today ( QueenJohanna Basford
Congratulations on your first book purchase! Secret Garden was my first book as well :) Thank you for your kind words, it lifts me up! We all have our challenges, but yes, my and my family’s health has given me a lot of time to color!
Thank you very much! I apologize for the late reply. I just posted a video tonight, and just finished recording an updated video of the few updated coloring book I've been able to complete in the last four months. I hope you take a look!
Thank you for letting me know. I have a very soft voice and next time I’ll try to speak louder and closer to the microphone. And increase the volume when editing!
Creepin NeverSleepin thank you very much :) I learned a lot about coloring (and the style of video I like) from Peta Hewitt (La Artistino). If you like my walkthrough, you might like hers.
I only own colormorphia and I think some of the one page pictures in the older books are made into two pages and vise versa. I know it's not a big difference but just in case.
I enjoyed seeing all your colouring, Michelle. I think you’re very hard on yourself! Some of the backgrounds that you’ve drawn and dismissed as not very good I actually thought were great! 😀
Thank you! I am very hard on myself, I know this ((shakes my head)). I have a second walkthrough video in which I’m much less hard on myself, if you ever want to watch it. It’s on my channel. Thanks again for your kind words.
For a beginning colorist, your work in the Secret Garden is lovely! I had to smile when you related how you colored such big spread illustrations while waiting in Urgent Care & your doctor's office! Gosh! They don't exactly offer "Urgent care" do they?? Lol! You certainly did nice work under the circumstances!
My sister works in Urgent Care. It doesn't mean you get fast service, it means you can walk in without an appointment, bc of a situation that's urgent (but one that is not an emergency, bc then you'd have to go to the Emergency Room).
I think your backgrounds look great. If you look at famous portrait artist's backgrounds, they are rarely smooth color. They look more like yours! It makes it more interesting to have some soft "texture" in backgrounds, in my opinion. I like smooth looks too but for sure I do more marbled backgrounds and I do it on purpose, which is fun, and faster too.
wow. Your sure have lots of colouring books. They are like a document that shows how you have improved. Some of the colourings are really nice. I really like the Egyptian one.
Thank you so much! I like to keep the books that show my progress. I invite you to check out my updated flip through video to see the more recent pages I colored and how I improved further. The Egyptian one is one of my favorites too :)
@Louisa Cooper I agree, I am very hard on myself! 😂 I have a second video with newer pages, and I’m *slightly less critical of my coloring in that video 😄 Thank you for the lovely compliment!
Colouring with Brittany thank you Bee! My last page I think I’ve finally gotten the pressure thing under control! Let’s see if I can get the backgrounds under control 😂
Hi Michelle thank you for sharing your beautiful pictures I've just started adult colouring when we went in to lockdown hope to be able to do work like yours one day lot's of love jacky from Oxford England 😀❤️ xx
Love your work! I am revisiting my art as I near retirement. I am stepping back from my sketching in order to improve my Color choices and Values Techniques. I have found a new love for the Colorist’s coloring book techniques. Thanks so much for sharing. 😁👍
@Duh_ itzava Thanks! It’s a great art form to love because you can springboard into lots of other media after working in coloring books for awhile. Have fun!
I took my book to OfficeMax (any supply store should do this) and asked them to spiral bind the book and cut the spine as close to the edge as possible. There are several styles of spiral binding to choose from!
I really enjoyed looking though all your coloured pages. I like that you shared the pages your not as pleased with, it really shows your progression. Fab pages 💜
Essy E Thank you so much! And thanks for subscribing 💕 I’m going to be making a new video showing my updated completed pages - some big differences! I hope you’ll like it.
Thank you for sharing. I love your honesty and I can see your progress. Your work is AMAZING and you given me so much encouragement that I started coloring immediately. I’m following you now. You should look up Zucchinikitty, you might like her work. Again, thanks for sharing your talents with us!
What are you using to achieve the gold circle at time 17:12 in your video?? Lovely pages!! Oh, and even the pages you may think are a mistake and can not be salvaged, just think outside the box. For instance, with the door framed in stones, you said you tried to create a "shadow" but then erased it and made a mess. Well, dear, try creating another row of stones around the arch and it will be a happy "mistake". I know you said you can not draw, but I beg to differ. For instance your lizard on the "blocks" was amazing. If you can create that page, you can definitely create a row of stones around a door!! You're awesome and I would love to see more videos for 2020!!
Thanks for the lovely comments. For that page, I used polychromos pencils (if I remember correctly) cadmium yellow, Naples Yellow, Dark Naples Ochre, and Bistre. You can always substitute colors for what you have, but I've found the Dark Naples Ochre is a key color.
The books that are spiral bound. Did you buy it like that (I've never seen that option for Johanna Basford colouring books) or did you take out all the pages and then take it to a print shop and get it spiralled there? Beautiful colourings 😍
i have been coloring for years but i have done it for fun but a few days ago i started doing it more seriously and i have fallen in love with it i love you colorings and i get s inspired
Beautiful Coloring!!! You are amazing with Inktense wet and dry!! The pages you didn't like , I thought were gorgeous...never mind the ones you liked!!! Great Video!!!

Lisa B thank you so much! I always try to use as many colors as possible (hopefully without clashing) and I appreciate that you noticed and liked it! I didn’t have the opportunity to color for about 2 months and have just restarted, so I hope to have more videos to show in the future!
You may or may not like this, but I thought I'd share a background tip I tried & like a lot. I saw this demo on Simple Art for Adults which is hosted by Erin. You color your background with like 3 or more similar colors with Crayola Crayons! She chose black & 2 blues for her sky background. Then you blend the colors with Gamsol or any odorless mineral spirits you may have or can buy. You go from lightest to darkest with your paint brush or blending stump, whichever you choose to blend with. I did this last night with first coloring a butterfly then doing the all white page around it with 3 shades of orange from darker on top to lightest on the bottom. Erin did it right in a coloring book with normal thin paper. I did mine on a thicker card stock paper. The smooth transition between the colors is awesome. Just a fun way to use up some inexpensive Crayola crayons and see how nicely the mineral spirits melt the crayons. it's fast too. You don't need to have a lot of hand pressure. just normal coloring pressure so you don't have too dark a shade to blend. It's fun too.
