Hobby King F6F maiden flight review
The Dynamic Duo join the busy flight line at the Apollo 11 flying field in the Sepulveda Basin field, Southern California for the maiden flight of the Hobby King F6F Hellcat. This new release EPO WW2 warbird is sure to satisfy with a variety of authentic details, and plenty of power. Josh Bixler gives you a history lesson, then tempts you with the "Full Schwamee", while Josh Scott enjoys saying "Hell" as much as he likes without censure. Faithful to his fan base, Bixler interrupts filming to take a personal call from Zach of the Red Devils Flying Club. I guess California can make anyone a diva!

My dad took me to watch the planes flying at this field all the time when I was a kid in the 80s. We didn't have enough money to fly back then but I always wanted to. Now about 30 years later I'm building an FT Flyer with my 6 year old son. Hopefully we'll go for our first flight this weekend.

@@MattPriceGuitar Oh wow.. I didn't expect a reply to a 7 year old comment at all...let alone just 2 min later. It was great hearing your story. I used to watch a group of gentlemen flying their gassers at a field near my house all my childhood but never had the financial resources to but even the most basic electronics as they would cost me my family's monthly income. So I built gliders out of packaging foam, cardboard and paper. I've been saving up for quite a while and finally close to buying my first radio (a cheap Chinese one). I'm thinking about building a Trojan or a Beaver as I've heard they make great trainers.

Did a little research for you on this plane, You are correct the kills flags are a little off. there should be 4 more, this pilot shot down 34 Japanese aircraft in air to air combat. The pilot was very highly decorated with a Medal of Honor, Navy Cross, silver Star... etc... So you can feel confident about the numbers of kills in the flags.

good review, thanks! you guys are the best in the rc plane review business. to be better, throw in some general need to know stuff for the noobs such as is the a plane for noobs or for advanced or intermediate and also throw in some stats for the tech minded RC geeks such as how many oz thrust the stock setup offers, motor KV, possible quick upgrades, etc....

@TheJay5959 About 65-75mm back from the leading edge at the point where the wings enter the fuselage. I have mine balanced there and it flies great.

Do you order the planes anonymous or does HobbyKing send you extra checked planes? I just wonder because there hasn't been a real quality issue or something negative about a presented plane...

What radio do you guys use? I am still on FM. All my stuff is JR and I want to get into 2.4 without an arm and a leg. What's a good radio to get for a good price? At least 6 Ch.

David McCampbel downed over 30 planes in an F6F, but I think he was the only one. The F6F was the plane that made the most US Aces F8F Bearcat was the next "cat" plane from grumman good review

This model is actually missing 4 kill flags, the total should be 34. Captain David McCampbell was the third highest scoring US ace of WWII and the highest scoring to survive the wars end. Anyway this looks like a nice flying model and I'd like to buy one so I have a cheap foam version to chuck around without worry. Unfortunately Hobby King is only carrying this one in their AUS and DE warehouses... It's a good thing FMS planes are so easy to find elsewhere. ;)

Actually the amount of kills is indeed the amount that pilot shot down. He was the Navy's leading ace, Commander David McCampbell. Just thought you would like to know. :)

In World War II many aces were born on both sides. One of the best known is Maj. Erich Hartmann of the Luftwaffe, with 352 kills is the world's highest scoring ace to date. Highest Allied ace is said to have been Moma Stankovic of Air Force of Kingdom of Yugoslavia with 126 kills.

Dude, git this we ripped the little 750kv motor off this beast and put a 1100kv motor on it and then we put in a 40amp esc and put in a 2600mha 4 cell. Man this thing rips through the sky. It flys great. We pulled the landing gear off. these planes do not fly veary well with the gear on. this plane rocks!!! we painted the bottom of the wing white so we could see it better from far away!

The Hellcat and the Wildcat are two completely different planes from each other. The Hellcat had a 19 to 1 kill ratio, and produced more American Aces and is such tops in these two categories of US Planes. In some important respects is even larger than the P-47. This model looks and flies great like the real plane.

Must be sweet having a public flying field around, especially one that nice and with a runway. It's hard enough just finding a basic flying field here in northwest Ohio. Only found one within reasonable distance and they require AMA membership and prefer you pay to join their club too. I've never even seen an RC field with a runway, just grass around here. Really sucks having to hand launch anything smaller than a .40-.60 size model. Even then ground handling is crappy at best.

I'd suspect that the dislikes are from mobile users missing the 'full screen' and hitting the dislike icon accidentally. I've done it myself. Keep up the good work guys!

I'd be stressed out flying there. Too many planes, too many distractions but that's the LA area - too damn many people! I grew up in Orange County back when it actually had orange groves.

The markings on the plane are from one of the most famous planes from ww II flown buy David Mac Campbell´s "Minsi III" Hellcat; he had a total of 24 actual kills. Love this plane looks sweet. Great review guys.

Where can this cat be purchased ? Ive looked at MANY Hellcats but most have a horrific non scale paint scheme - this one seems to be one of the only one's with a legitimate color scheme.

@schugabe I know what you mean. It's like when you order a plane from HK you're like "I hope THIS one doesn't have a bad ESC or motor" I've got 3 HK planes and one had a faulty ESC that ruined my receiver and killed one cell of a 3-cell pack. A little more quality control wouldn't hurt but it may raise the prices but I'd rather have one that works right for more money.

I have basically the same aircraft, older version, no steerable tail wheel, motor was smaller (burnt out by me prop error, doh) same basic airframe, this version is updated. I can tell you it flies great. Broke my landing gear on a heavy landing so its now hand launch only. I also broke the prop before she flew :( It's pitch sensitive, I still use the fm non computer radio will put a ar in it soon. Flies great! turnigy 1650with an 8x4e and 35 amp esc now 13-1800 mah. Sweet, check it in my vids

When they were looking for a name for the new plane, Mr. Grumman wanted to call it the Tomcat. The powers that be thought Tomcat was too risque so it it became the Hellcat.

Josh i would like to ask something...I just got a yak-plane that is Balsa Wood i crashed it on the 1st flight lol..The thing i cant find is were can i get the front part that holds the motor and frame that holds it to...If you like you can look on my youtub page and see the pic that has the pic of all the parts and it is the one that is between the wings.Thanks and keep on making the good vids

Title should read " Flite Test Hellcat - INFOMERCIAL" Hell you can see the Hobby King president trying to get out of the way at 9:29. I've got no problem with Hobby King but be honest.
