So a couple of weeks ago I stumbled onto your channel and just enjoyed watching. I then found this review and thought , "I can do that!" So went straight on the Hobbyking and ordered a RTF model and waited. I have just returned after the maiden flights and,,, wow! It is easy , so forgiving and so stable. I had two "heavyish" landings and after that pure enjoyment. First plane at 41 and loving it. Well worth the money.. Cheers Josh n Josh Ps looking forward to the Scott 1.1 :-)
just did my maiden flight today with my bixler. it flies well as a trainer for a person who like me who has been using simulators. i think im going to have a lot of fun with this in the future.
I've had my Bixler 1 since early in their release. My first 4 channel a/c. And she's still alive and flying well despite some scars. My only upgrades were a stiffer and slightly larger APC prop and I switched over to a Taranis transmitter / receiver combo. A great aircraft with many, many enjoyable flight hours on it.
Very Nice guys. Great beginners model and can really expand your fun by carrying cameras, add the hobbyking leds and it makes a perfect nightflyer, or even build a box to carry on the front so you can drop parachutes etc. I have done all this with a similar model and also have one for FPV. I have been flying for about 20 years, but still have so much fun with these kinds of models as they are so versatile (also a top slope soarer for light - medium lift)...... Awesome job guys
Partially right. A tip stall is where the tip of the wing stalls before the root causing a significant loss of lift in the outer wing portion resulting in a downward pitch.
@kaiapoi55 The motor might just be loose. There have been cases where the motor mount is loose, causing the motor to vibrate and make horrible noises. Feel free to join our forum... you can get a lot of great advice there.
you say that the aircraft batteries will last about 20 minutes or so, what about the transmitter battery? how long do those typically last and does hobby king or other places sell extra batteries for the transmitters like Futaba, or JR?
I ordered mine on the 5th of June. I'm still waiting. The price for delivery is very expensive. Ordered a Gee Bee from Tower Hobby on Monday, it was here yesterday, Wednesday. Never will I order from HK again. And you're right, their 24/7 chat is off-line 24/7. At least I got my Blitz to play with, which was delivered in three days after ordering from BH.
yes, it is actually just a sky-surfer (i think thats what it is called) with a brushless motor and different decals, he "certified" it as a good beginner plane and since he has been so good with promoting hobbyking, they named a plane after him :)
Got an early X-mas gift last nite from the wife: The Bixler. Winds are around 8-10 mph with temps in the mid-70s here in FL and I'm headed out for my Bixler maiden voyage.
I have a LRP Upstream and its a mixure of bixler and easystar and its a blast. I have it as my first fpv platform and it flies great. Its easy to fly and even if you go full throttle it doesnt push the nose up too much
Tip stall. This is where one wing tip is traveling further than the other, hence making it fly slower. An example of this is in making a turn or climbing with out enough power, one wing will drop. this is what is called a Tip Stall.
HK should have a plane called the OOS. "Out Of Stock". I have yet to place an order with HK and part of that is because of all - Out of Stock - I see on so many of their products. I love Flitetest though. Good videos.
Josh and Josh Nice going both of you, I maiden my BIXLER a few days ago, awesome!!! glider, per you recomendations best CG is over the spar, you guys rock, oh yeah Hobby King too :)
Well they did say good for beginners. Personally I would suggest starting with one of those small three channel cubs or something similar. Four channel makes things a little more complex and if you're first starting out you don't need hat.
Awesome! I will be getting this plane for a cheap fpv platform. When I use this for fpv would you recommend using like a 3s 2200 battery to power both the plane and the fpv gear? Thanks!
This plane flys so well! Awesome review and I mounted a gopro on mine and crashed from really high up, all on video. It's totally fine! It was a dot in the sky. Spar poped. It on my channel. Saturday morning up with the clouds. Sweet plane!
Is this a decent Sunday flyer that's reliable? I use to have a tech one mercury glider but during mid flight wings split and it took a wicked nose dive. On top of that nitroplanes didn't help, or respond with answers. So now looking to get a new glider from some other place. Hope to hear from your guys!
It's not a glider in the traditional sense, it will glide a bit though, but nowhere near as much as a proper sailplane. It's a reliable, fun and docile plane that's pretty easy to fly. I'd recommend it.
Hey man great job. I just got the cloud fly from HK and i was wondering if i should glue the main wings in place or tape them so they can be disassembled if needed.
I would recommend it, yeah. I had a Firebird for my first RC plane. This is built better, and handles a heck of a lot more consistently then my firebird did. Heck, I fly heli's, and I'd enjoy one of these. They have the Bixler 2 out, now, not exactly sure what the differences are, though.
Flitetest and Hobbyking are awsome !!!!! keep up the good work !!! for another video you should upgrade the Bixler and see how fast you can get it to go !!!!
I ran into a big problem with mine. I needed to fit a 2700kv inrunner in order to hope to takeoff. The 3S batteries recomended for the plane are just too heavy and at stock it wouldn't take off
I'm so glad i saw this... i just bought mine like 2 minutes ago and i was worried that it would be too hard for a first plane, but it looks fun and easy! cant wait for it to come xD
That sucks. I'm not writing them off just yet. But that doesn't sound so great. I'm in need of a 5.8 tx/rx setup and I've seen good reviews of the one they have.
hobbyking simply made it their plane, have it available as a RTF and ARF not just a kit, and also made it alot cheaper, allow the hobby to expand much more quickly than it did
Nice plane, Josh! I'm a big fan of the Dynam Hawk Sky (I use it for AV/AP) and this basically seems to be a better version of the Hawk Sky. I'm sure a lot of RC pilots will earn their wings on the Bixler! Also, I'm happy Josh Scott checked the stall characteristics for us at least 10 times during the video... :-)
i think i now like this a little better than the Hawksky. i havent bought one yet but i like this... can you please tell me what remote and other things i need to get with this plane.. im looking around the AU$150each mark (buying two planes wanna keep the cost down) i need a remote with a decent range, so im not restricted when i get the hang of it.. says it comes with a brushless but is required to buy a 20A ESC isnt that a motor? please help!
Hi everyone, I just bought the Bixler 1 it came with the stock motor, 20A ESC and 1300mAh battery, my first flight at 50% throttle overheated the ESC. I'd like to fly this thing on a 2200mAh battery to get more flight time..can anyone advise me what ESC I need to upgrade to for best performance without burning a hole in my pocket?
i have put flaperons on my bixler it flyes great . i have used a turnigy 9z tx/rx . it slows it down very well so i get nice soft landings , not that it needed it the bixler is number 1 in my books ( i have 3 )
Hey guys. I was wondering about the minimum space to fly a full range plane. In general, does the amount of space you need to fly an airplane comfortably depend on the transmitter distance, size of the airplane, or airplane top speed?
Bix 1.1 an excellent entry level platform. Can do aerobatics including inverted flight, easy to repair and relatively tough. (Add packing tape to fuselage bottom to protect foam, lightly coat "hinge" areas with Aleens - extend life)
hey guys great video again! just because of that i baught the bixler but their are no COG indicated in the manual can you please help me out here? thanks heaps and keep up the good work.
quick question: i just got a fpvraptor. testing the motor speed goes well, but the esc is warming up quickly. it has a 30amp esc and im worried that it will overheat while i maiden it. will it overheat or am i just too worried? it has good cooling throught a hole for the air to come in. any suggestions?
my bixler is rotating counter-clockwise while my 2826-6 is rotating clockwise in air. How can I solve this helicopteric problem without electronic stabilizer? Thanks,
@Ujjwalis Agreed..it definitily looked tail heavy, the plane was on a constant fugoid cycle and every turn looked in verge of stall.. still it shows that its really easy to fly for newbies :D Also they keep recomending the 1300mAh batt.. and just same as the famous CloudsFly this plane really asks for a 2200 to keep the CG spot on (or slighty nose heavy wich is good) and you get 900mAh more (+50% more flight time)
@chops1sc I am n ot sure of the exact balance point and weight of this aircraft, however, it is essentially an Easystar with ailerons. My Easy star balances well with a Turnigy 3S 1800.
@kGCryTeK I love the axn floater jet - mine's got lights on it now for awesome night flying! :D I should also mention my friend, who'd never flown an rc plane before, could fly the floater jet first go without crashing after some time on the simulator. The bixler looks like it has similar characteristics, but with the advantage of having everything in the box. Great job Josh's and HK.
Hey guys, does the bixler radio or the 6ch hobbyking radio support buddy boxing? Im interested in getting one and my uncle flys 1/5th scale planes and jets so he is a really good pilot and I would prefer if I could buddy box with him for my first few flights so I don't lose my plane! :)
Hello just received my bixler 2days ago but now my rudder and elevvator arn`t working properly. got a vid on my channel but what can i do?? if i need to buy new servos how can i get the old one`s out???
My friend and I have been having a lot of trouble with the Bixler which we got two years ago or so. The esc doesn't work and we are being told that we need to get a programmable card, because the esc that came with the plane has the wrong instructions. Have you had this problem before and what is the likelihood that Hobby King will send the card fairly quickly - i.e. not sent all the way from China, but from the US warehouse? Thank you.
The only way to be sure to get the card from the US warehouse and not the China warehouse is to order it from the US part of the HK web sire and not the International site. From what I have seen, the ESC can be programmed with the stick of your control, but is more tedious
Philip Reinhart Did you oder the card? I know its been a while since this comment, but another alternative is to order from Ebay when HK is out of stock, there will be a markup but compensates for the international shipping and wait time
+Rigo Arevalo you can order from ebay too but when you order a hk's product from ebay it's more expensive and it's proboably from china. My personal opinion is that it's always better to look around other stores and order a best and/or cheapest thing.
@flitetest hey guys nice show btw.......need help!!! can you put landing gear on this plane....and what type of glue should i buy for it from hobby king?? plz reply!!!!
Can someone advise me on the whereabouts of the Manual.pdf. I'm trying to find the data sheet and CG Info for the original Bixler. I have just restored my old Bix and it looks beautiful....but I NEED HELP !!
Bixler 1.1 update.. Check the wing joining spars collar. Mine came unglued and allowed the spar to slide into the left wing. So unfortunately coming out of a large slow undramatic loop the wings folded and my Bixler became a missile! To stop this I found 800mm x 5.5mm carbon fibre bars that will stop this issue from happening again. I also glued one into the tail boom for extra rigidity...
@atisoz I am 14 to and I have a Bixler, it´s a prrfext plane to begin, but I recommend you to train on simulatir first to not ruin your investisment...
@dwculp - I've done everything you can think of. I have posts up all over there, and have had a ticket going with the Support center since April. I even have a post up that says "To Anthony Hand," And nothing! They have my money and my brand new never used lipos. They were the wrong size so I sent them back. My mistake. I had the USPS track it down, and HK uses a UPS store for their USA returns. My package was returned there and HK picked up. HK has confirmed they have it, and still nothing.
@UtRadioGuy Have you gone to RCGroups and posted a message in the HK forum? I have seen Anthony Hand answer peoples questions and help people out in there.
Hello, i want to buy a Bixler but im not sure how to send it to me (i live in Germany), because transcontinental you have to pay customs can you help me?
