What was meant to be a half day's carp fishing turned out to be a pretty epic session, over 10 carp up to double figures. In this episode Graeme and Mike Pullen go to a day-ticket water called Holme Grange. Using the deadly technique of float fishing right in the margins (literally 2 feet away from the bank) Rods were Avon quiver tips and a simple float, bait was double or triple white maggots. I know this is old but I just love how you've always thought about youngens just getting into the sport. Passing the easy knowledge on to the young anglers of the future. And it's done in such a way adults still find it entertaining and informative. Brilliant channel, the best for fishing.

Shimano Aero I think. I've had them over twenty years .No need to change .They still work and catch plenty of fish.

This is the way i started fishing for carp a long time ago. You don't need to take a whole circus with you if you want to catch carp. A friend of mine's little 6 year old son came to me with a photo of a carp ( a 30 lbs one of cource), saying; i would like to catch one like this. Now seeing this video i realise this is probably the best way to start fishing for carp with him, so he can catch a few other species along the way not getting bored so quickly. I catched mij first carp fishing this way using potatoe for bait. Thanks for your inspiring video's. Keep it going! Greeting from the Netherlands.

It used to be called Holme Grange Reservoir just outside Crowthorne,Berks,but I think the name has been changed.Should be findable on your search engine though.(Never fished it in winter)

Nice video but i feel the need to mention that you dont need to hook the maggots on like that. Not in my experience, i just hook the first maggot on with the fat end as finely as possible, then the second one i hook with the tail end and i do this so that it eliminates twist in the line, a nice tip i picked up from another video.

All my tackle is very old, I don't continually buy new equipment so I'm not aware of any good cheap makes. Your local tackle shop should help you. But why not try your local angling club first, and see if they have any members that might have second-hand gear to sell ? You could get a better piece of tackle for less money than buying new.

Hi guys we went here to day 04/01/15 it was freezing they weren't in that close though!!! we were catching them on the method feeder (ground bait) we had 14 in total as their was also a match on- so we had to battle with them!!!

Camera make is a Sony.They do loads of different models.This one take dual cards and automatically changes from one to another,and features GPS as well. Don't worry,we don't know how to use most of its functions !! If you get one,keep it simple.

Bigger baits, later in the evening, and make sure the water actually has some carp in it. Sounds you might need to "mega-dump" a lot of mashed bread in to really feed them off, then fish large cubes of hotdog segment. Worth a try, but always good if you are catching any species.

Go Pro is the more popular head cam,but there are others out there.They have their limitations though.Camera shake is one thing we have yet to master,and they are not cheap as all the extras cost more,different housings etc.

I like to fish either right on the lake bed or right on the surface with bread crust or soaked dog biscuit. New film up 7pm July 25th on How to start fishing floating baits. Might be worth a check out .I don't get much in between.

Great. I'll definitely try this method again. I tried it before but think I over complicated things. I only caught a few small bream and small carp. I used a size 10 hook and used sweet corn. I'll move down to a smaller hook 16/14 for next time

Wicked show I've watched a fair few now I'm using the prawns seems to be doing the trick with my local lake. I even went with a few mates and they was all fishing boilys with all there gear. I popped a prawn on the hook and next thing I'm into a 18lb common lol totally awesome

Only on intensively stocked day ticket fisheries where the carp know anglers throw/dump their leftover bait in the margins from about 4pm onwards.I even heard of it on bream at a surrey day ticket water.The anglers throw in their leftovers and the bream move in at night to mop up.Its still worth a try though,as if you like roving tactics you can prebait half a dozen close in swims and go back to check on any activity.You might be surprised.Big carp will come right in to the bank if you are quiet

How I use to fish over 50 years ago. I use to creep round the waters edge and if I noticed the ripples on the water made from the tail of a nose down feeding fish I just dropped the baited hook gently into the water and bam I was straight into the fish.

Its important that you use the reel's drag or you risk the line breaking. The drag, or pressure it takes before line is pulled off the reel must be less than the breaking strain of the line. You want it to come off without breaking the rod or snapping the line. Check our film "How to set a reel drag"

may i suggest using a pre weighted float with a full muscle on the size 10 hook the carp seem to love it at the lake i fish also place it near a weed bed

now i saw the model.its Shimano aero GTM,very famous old reel,especialy for match and float fishing.this reel is awesome. the equivavelent today i think is Super GTM. a week ago i bought Shimano Exage 2500 RCDH and the next week i`ll check it.Here in Spain we`ve got a lot of carp

I see the "h"is near the"n" on the keyboard so I'm guessing you mean "near" ? We are just back from the edge of the bank,and simply lower the float into the margins.No need to cast.In fact its better just to lower the float among the feeding fish quietly.Plus they don't see any movement.Not that it really matters as this is a commercial fishery and they see plenty of anglers moving.

I don't know why you think fish will come off the hook so easily using barbless? I use barbless size 12's with and land 15-20lb carp at my local lake every weekend!

I have heard some anglers use it.I've never bothered with spicy, or gloopy,gunky dipping stuffs. Just regular luncheon meat. Get one that's fatty though.

Can I ask, is there very little silverfish in that particular pool? I have tried this method numerous times and just pull out gudgeon and roach. Also how many inches of line to you want lying on the bottom? What are your thoughts of using this method with a hair rig on using luncheon meat or pepparami? Thanks.

Does the same technique work at Bury Hill on the old lake. I've been twice now fishing meat under waggler tight against reeds but all I get is the odd bream.

Fishing the pellet fishing is much faster in a match scenario and also the margins are not usually fished until the last hour

Super video as ever lovely boys! What rod, and TC are ya using here? Enjoyed the Old Bury Hill vids too. Had a 5.5lb golden tench near the boathouse not so long ago from there. MARC EDEN Rods were probably just our old Avons,two piece,test curve about 1 1/4 if I recall .we use them for most of our freshwater fishing.

Hi, I am a usually a pole fisher but have bought a rod, I use it quite a bit but don't know how to use the drag. Can I just ask do you have to use the drag or can you just leave?

Is this setup the lift method? I've seen this sort of setup before but for tench. Also people have said with the lift method the floats meant to lift n lay flat on the surface. Tired the setup once n had a few good roach/ small carp n bream but nothing of a good size yet. Thanks for any answers to my question on which method this is called :D

Yes, you are right,the lift method should have the float lying flat.Mainly for Tench "Old School"method.When you get a bite the float rises vertically,before sinking.

been fishing at my local spot for a while now and for the first ever time I've noticed carp swim past very close to the margin its usually 2 or 3 always around the same time swim past around 6-7pm like clockwork :s anways... i usually fish for silver fish so a first carp would be nice my problem is they just will not take the bait I've laid down ground bait,sweetcorn,prawns im fishing free lining and leaving my hook bait amongst the stuff i put down but they always just swim past it without hoovering up anything at all...any ideas? sorry for long question

??????? last time I went margin fishing with double maggot I caught 40 odd perch! Not saying it doesn't work though I tried with double sweetcorn and caught 4 commons around 5 lbs one 7lb.
