Before you leave a comment stating "drift" fishing is only done this way... or that way... Please be aware that the term "drift fishing" has applied to numerous techniques all across the fishing industry. Infact if you ask a salmon guy, a high mountain trout guy, a kayaker, a boater, and a saltwater fisherman they would all give you a different answer. So be aware that the term drifting applies in different techniques all across the board. Thanks for watching!!
It's always good too see how others catch fish : trout or what ever the same will work for most fish in small rivers / creeks. I've used this when fishing The Shenandoah River and others in VA. Works well, thanks for showing others so they may learn. I now live in Florida, but do get back at times. Tom Daytona Beach, FL.
Yes, this was very informative after yesterdays rough day on the water, i'll question everything what did i do wrong, normally its the small stuff. You've been my go to watch recently, i just love your stlye's and techniques for trout.
Thank you so much for the advice. I cant wait to use this technique. I'll hopefully go trout fishing later on today. I'm in Maryland and it's mid February.
Great video! I just Subscribed after watching a few of your videos last couple days. I like the informational video. For my four-year-old son, who does the trout derbies. This is going to work. Perfect. Thank you.
Use pretty much the same technique for big Browns,Steelhead/Rainbows but 9ft rod with braided line....Braid gives higher lb to diameter for smoother longer casts and it floats.....aslo make the eggs into sacs of different sizes...Stay on hook way better..Have best luck with marabou jigs under a float...like ya mentioned everyone has their own way....Nice video!!!!
Recently I have been using the trout magnet floats. I like them but I only have one complaint. The distance you can cover is pretty limited. These are more ideal for smaller streams and tighter ends of the river.
It looks like you are using a leader. Is that necessary to use a leader if your line is florocarbon? I have a hard time tying knots in 2# test for attaching a leader at my advanced age and would only like to tie on hooks or a 1/64 ounce jig. My guess is I’d have even a harder time tying on a 1lb leader
Am I doing something wrong? I am having a hard time controlling where I cast when I have this float on. It seems to want to go up in the air when I cast. No problems casting without it. Thanks.
The easiest way is by observing the fins. The stocked trout will have wore down or even no fins as they get damaged in holding tanks. Wild or native fish will have full undamaged fins and are often more colorful
If you're ever in the bay area in California I can touch up your wrists for you :) I've been tattooing professionally for 12 years and I can make them solid and crispy :) Just an offer I know it will most likely never happen but I would be willing to do it in exchange for fishing tips and possible a lure as a tip if you are pleased with the results xD Anyway, love the channel thanks for the great content!
How can you tell a native (wild) from stocked?? I would LOVE to see a video explaining this, with examples of what to look for and how to see the distinctions
The easiest way to tell is a stocked fish has been living in a holding run. These runs have hard bottoms and sides that damage the fish's fins. So when you catch a wild you'll notice it has long undamaged fins and at first glance the different are distinct and you'll know. I will touch on this in a upcoming video more in detail. Thanks for watching!
NRV Outdoors You re absolutely right! I started using this technique last year at big tumbling because I was having a rough time with spinners and powerbait. Now it’s all I use and just about catch my limit every time. You ever use a water bobber? I seen a guy use one at pandapas pond with a trout magnet and he was slaying em. Only person catching fish. He would fill it half way with water and cast super far and slowly retrieve. Anyways outstanding video!!
